The next best thing to being in Greece is eating Greek food!!!

As soon as I stepped in the restaurant, I felt the Greek hospitality straight away! It felt like I was being welcomed in someone’s home! The blue and white décor, white washed walls and furniture, light timber floors and small vases of flowers made me feel like I was transported back to the Greek islands!

APERITIF
Ouzo Meze Plate: This is obvious, we have to start the night with Greece’s most popular alcoholic drink, the OUZO! We drunk it straight from a shot glass without hesitation! The distinct flavour of licorice and star-anise certainly unleashed our friendly and outgoing spirits! HAHA! What a way to kick start the night! Our Meze platter had meatballs, calamari, olives and ofcourse the holy tzatziki and pita bread! It was such a delight snacking on these little tasty things while catching up with the crew!

ENTRÉE
Saganaki Kefalograviera: I forgot my all-time favourite fried Halloumi cheese when I tried the Saganaki Cheese! Saganaki is the frying pan used to fry the Kefalograviera which is a salty hard traditional Greek table cheese! For the cheese lovers out there, this is a must try! Slightly crunchy on the outside and melty on the inside! I loved the sticky sweet combination of honey and salty cheese. Add those pistachios and it has now become one of my favourite Greek dishes!

Grilled Octopus: When I saw this dish, I thought of my first dining experience in a seafood taverna while in Santorini. Plates after plates of seafood arrived and the star of the show was the octopus! I love the octopus’ subtle taste, it’s not fishy at all. Chef Stergios cooked it perfectly... the flesh was so tender and moist! He also used the savoury and mildly sweet taste fava bean puree as a base for this dish! And, yes... it was a wondrous pairing!

MAIN:
Slow roasted Lamb Shoulder: This succulent lamb shoulder was cooked low and slow until the meat falls off the bone. It was meltingly tender and full of flavour that can seriously serve as a centrepiece for any feast or celebration! The juice from the lemon and thyme and who knows what else that flowed out from the meat was divine! Such amazing aromas and tangs!

Grilled Lamb cutlets: These gorgeously grilled lamb chops came out with fat surrounding the eye of the meat that extends to the bone! It was a mouth-watering dish that I can have over and over again! So flavoursome!

Moussaka: This dish was the star of the evening! This moreish moussaka had luscious layers of beef mince that was cooked in a tomato-based sauce layered with sweet eggplants and creamy bechamel sauce! It was light and fluffy with a golden crust, just simply irresistible!

DESSERT
Galaktoboureko with Baklava Ice cream: OMGGGG! Can I just say that Chef Stergio’s custard pie taste better than the one that I had in Athens!? I don’t know what butter, semolina and syrup he used that made his creation so bespoke! Also, I have a slight baklava and ice cream obsession... Put them together and I’m in cloud nine!!!

I’ve walked past The Belvedere Hotel countless times, regrettably unaware of the mouthwatering Greek fare on offer one storey up. With Head Chef Stegios at the helm, diners are taken on a journey to the Mediterranean, where they are welcomed with open arms and treated to a family-style feast of meze and large plates which are shared around the table.

The team at Greek at the belvedere are one of the nicest I've met! Chef stergios has done a beautiful job with his food, authentic greek food in the heart of the CBD. Your tastebuds will definitely take a trip back to the greek islands.

I loved the mezze to start and of course it wouldnt be a party without that ouzo 😜 Favourites from the meze were definitely the beef keftedes, karamosolata (pink dip), tzatziki and the cheesey bread called kefalograviera. 

Then came the mains, slow cooked lamb shoulder is always a good idea! Chef stergios pairs this with potatoes and a delicious yogurt sauce, the lamb cutlets were also a favourite of mine. Lamb cooked well and seasoned well is amazing and this one is served with lima beans and a tomato sauce. 

You have to try the Mousaka, a delicious beef mince, eggplant & potatoes topped with a beschamel sauce 👌

Let's not forget dessert, the galaktoboureko which is smashed filo pastry with a custard style filling and walnuslts and pistachios, finished with a lovely syrup. Definitely s must order for dessert! Very authentic and delicious! 

I love the cute intimate space above belvdledere on level 1, such a nice rustic style venue. Staff are very attentive and friendly and happy to help!

How did I not know about this place?
 
On the first floor of the Belvedere Hotel is "Greek at The Belvedere".

After a cold beer on the cocktail bar on level 2, I made my way down to be greeted by John and the team on the restaurant floor, yep the whole floor is the venue. ⁣
After being seated by the smiling team, a very happy and charismatic Chef Stegios emerged from the open kitchen, greeted us and let us know how the evening is going to go.

Let's just say he definitely whisked us all away to Greece last night with his amazing modern and traditional Greek dishes and flavors and made sure we were looked after the entire time. ⁣
The service, atmosphere, venue, staff, Chef and the food were a perfect 5 stars.

To pick a favorite would be insulting to the other dishes.⁣

A real surprise as you go from the pub/bar downstairs and walk out of the elevator to a very nice restaurant that has a great light relaxed feel. The food is great, they came out with complimentary pita and tatsiki which was lovely, we then had the Saganaki and Zucchini Flowers for entree, and for the main, lamb cutlets with a real charcoal flavour and whole backed snapper with eggplant purée and large vege. Good size portions and great flavour. We’ll definitely be back here.

Came to this venue to buy take away lunch.
On this particular visit I had their Lamb Burger with chips. The size of the burger was quite large and tasted very good. The chips were decent.

A Greek restaurant above a none to fancy pub in an in-between part of the CBD. What could this be?
Well it turns out to be ok even though you they don't have any baclava on the menu.

The slow cooker lamb shoulder was the centrepiece plate for our table of four and it fed us with ease with plenty of tender and fall of the bone meat to share.
In support the Haloumi, a beetroot salad, dips and pita bread all made a solid contribution to the evening.

Service was great and the staff where clearly aiming to make a go of the place. Not sure how long it been open but I got the sense it was early days. The decor is neat and clean and ambience relaxing. If you're looking a mid price point eatery in the city set up as a proper restaurant, (not that easy to find) then this is a pretty fair option.

On the middle level at the Belvedere Hotel is Greek at the Belvedere. Featuring blue walls and Greek music paired with delicious authentic dishes it’s hard not to have a good time.

We ordered a fair few dishes during our visit, including the saganaki, the slow cooked lamb shoulder and the seasoned chips that were so tasty! Just cause we have to watch our figures, we ordered a Greek salad too hehe. The slow cooked lamb was salted and cooked to perfection, so soft it just fell off the bone which is always three ticks in our books!

Once you're done with dinner, head down stairs for some DJ sounds and drinks or head upstairs to the rooftop bar for a night of drinks and banter with friends.

I'm calling it, Greek at the Belvedere has the best haloumi I've tasted in Sydney. This venue is a real inner city find, located above the Belvedere hotel you'd never guess a quaint little restaurant decorated in hues of blue and white straight from the Greek Islands.

This was my second visit here and both times have been thoroughly enjoyable dinners.

This time for starters we ordered:

Haloumi - it's juicy, yet crispy and just divine. Big generous slices perfectly seasoned and ready to eat piping hot.

Spanakopita - mmm gorgeous flaky pastry with spinach, leek, feta and dill.

Feta and oregano chips - I have to admit they were better last time purely because of the type of feta. This time it was chopped feta which is harder to eat with the chips because it falls off. Last time it was crumbly creamy feta which perfectly stuck to the chips for a tasty treat.

Roast pumpkin Makarounes - goats cheese, pine nuts, cherry tomato, spinach and Spanish onion. Can you tell I like cheese yet haha. Really tasty flavour combos, only critique is that it could do with a bit more sauce or moisture.

Overall a super cute venue for lunch or dinner, great central location, and solid Greek food.
