Big Gun Chinese Restaurant

Have not been back over eight months so checked it out in a group of three. Business is not as busy as my last visit.
We chose to have a set banquet for four instead of spending too much time in selecting the a la carts.
Surprisingly, there was a free dish of salmon pieces in salt & pepper on the house from its promotion so there were totally seven dishes for three of us.
Overall, dishes are not as amazing as they were last time. Having said that the CP ration is very high. For around $100, what they fed us was enough for six peoples so you can imagine how full it was😋.

One of the better places for dim sum in Brisbane (in my humble opinion) I've been here a few more times since the change of owner and I feel that it is starting to outdo it's former spark.

Service: better than most Asian restaurants; however, the caveat is that the owner wife recognises me and we both speak Cantonese.

Verdict: solid and with decent value for money.

(in case you were confused, this place actually has the sign Guang Zhao Lou on the outside but the main thing is to look for the Big Gun Butchery and it's right next door to it!)

A few years back this place was an awesome venue for yum cha; then, all of a sudden (April 2014)  it closed (reportedly due to poor food safety infringements).

About half a year later (Oct 2014) it reopened as Guang Zhao Lou (in English: Canton House) to mild fanfare but by all accounts, not the greatest of dim sum...

I made a trip here recently after reports that it had changed hands again a few months ago and was pleasantly surprised!

All the dim sum were made (presumably to order); they were nice and hot and all very nice. I was particularly happy to have tried their Lau Saa Baouw (literal translation: rich sandy bun, which is a custard filled bun that features salted egg yolk and a little unmelted sugar), I think this is the best available in Brisbane right now (and almost as good as what they used to have at the now defunct Shangri-La).

Verdict: so far so good, will need additional trips to be completely sure...
