We ordered a delivery for Friday night. It all came on time. Portions were very generous and food was delicious. Great food and service.
I was suggested to try this Italian restaurant and I was not disappointed.
We started with calamari, then pasta with meatballs, gnocchi with cheese and we shared a dessert with meringue and berries.
It was everything really good and the service was nice too.
The lighting in this traditional restaurant is perfect, the noise level is good too, you can have a conversation without screaming, but it’s not too quiet either, nice background music is playing, old tasteful songs.
The steak was made perfectly to my liking (medium rare), compliments to the chef 😌
I very much enjoyed the accents of the wait staff, it made a traditional restaurant in Australia an escape to Italy. The service from each of them was flawless, polite, welcoming and my favourite, attention to detail. Holding the door open when patrons leave is a very nice touch.
Paper tablecloths on the tables which are perfect for kids to draw on if you bring your own pencils (not sure if they supply).
I love this neighbourhood gem. Elegant, vibarant and delicious (if you choose well). They do pasta well. The prociutto with fig and blue cheese was absolutely delicious. Good wine selection and friendly staff.

This neighbourhood Italian trattoria is a warm, inviting place with familiar menu & comforting food. Start with a delicious, creamy ball of burrata perfect with salty prosciutto & fresh tomatoes. Or the Arancini which is lightly coated with gooey cheesy rissotto centres. Pastas are generous, hearty, delicious & flavoursome. Desserts are the usual classic. The pannacotta was a little too dense but tiramisu was a great pick me up.
We went to Big Mama for dessert only and left wishing we had come for mains as well! I would have rated it higher but the tables were crammed in a wee bit too much making conversations and trying to get to the restroom a bit difficult!!! The staff also seemed a bit run off their feet and their set up for payment at the table rather than paying at the door on your way out was awkward. We ended up waiting for the bill to be brought over then waiting some more for the EFTPOS machine to be brought over. All in all I would definitely go back but maybe early in the evening to beat the madness! 😉
This is a nice place but from my point of view the portions are too small for the price! I've been to many Italian restaurants and its never like that! I ordered a pumpkin tortellini and that was just ok, nothing that I would come back for! My portion was really small for Italian food! My friends had a seafood linguine and they were really happy with it though!
Very recommendable. I was in Sydney last week as a visitor from Melbourne. I have always had trouble finding the "just right" place in Sydney to have a casual dinner without having to go to a place one step up from a cafeteria .. Now, through a friends recommendation, I have found the perfect place.. The moment you arrive at Big Mama's the friendly warm atmosphere wraps around you.. Here is a warm greeting ,a big smile a pre booked 7pm table ready and waiting and a bustle that's just right.. Crisp table linen, comprtable chairs, space to move between tables .The place was crowded (full that is) yet the noise level was perfectly reasonable.. couples , families, suits, a couple of birthdays.. a really nice mix of atmospheres .. We needed to wait for friends who had indicated they were running a touch late.. "No problem , you don't need to hurry.. what about a drink'.. so within 5 minutes of arriving we had a generous Campari in had and a very readable and interesting menu in front of us as well as a huge bread basket of really interesting stuff... Once we got around to ordering a smiling waiter caught up in the 8.15pm rush gave us generous time and explanation and took our orders (along with specific little changes) with no hint of his need to hurry us along.. The food was simply delicious. Maybe the calamari was too big a serve but as it was not overpriced, (nothing was), those of us who had it didn't mind leaving what we couldn't eat. Perhaps one serve between two is a better way to go.. My traditional Italian Stew (Spazzitina??) was perfect.. everyone commented on their choices in a positive way.. but we almost didn't notice the food as the whole general atmosphere of the place was just such a pleasure.. Although let me say again food was excellent.. Loved the way when our courses came three waiter brought the six dishes all at once.. brilliant timing from the kitchen and great theatre from the floor staff.. Six people, all had entrees and mains . Just two sweets.. Two reasonably priced bottles of wine plus the aforementioned Campari x 2.. The whole bill was under $600 . Excellent value . . How often do you find a place where the owners have really, really got it right. ALL the elements of a good meal come together with seemingly no effort. Congratulations to the entire Big Mama team..Now back in Melbourne now and madly recommending this place to everyone .
Big Limoncello's!. Thoroughly enjoyed Big Mama's (1st room) for a friends birthday last night. Lovely homely atmosphere, busy for a Tuesday night and sensational food. Shared a few starters between the 6 of us (olives, bread, bufalina con prosciutto e pomodoro and affettati misti), swordfish (special), claypot rabbit and lobster linguine were all amazing. Delicious hearty dishes, generous portions, great wine list and fairly reasonably priced. Very friendly, attentive service, if a little too much. Massive limoncellos to see us on our way! Keen to go again.
.I went there expecting average and left overwhelmed. Food was excellent, service was great. Not cheap - but worth it. When I'm in Sydney again I'll make an effort to go back.
AH! SO GOOD
Love Italian food so much but love it even more when there's options that agents pizzas (even tho I love pizza) and even more so when there's vegetarian options too!!! Came for a Christmas party, surprised to see there is a little courtyard at the back!! We didn't feel separated but we probably felt like we weren't gonna be disturbing too many people 🤭
The food is absolutely amazing and I highly recommend the place. The staff is also very kind and well mannered. Felt like it was very Covid safe as well so no trouble there either.
💯💯
Wonderful restaurant. I’ve lived in the area for a lifetime and this has always been the restaurant my family holds birthdays and other informal celebrations. Wonderful staff and beautiful food.

Amazing place. Impeccable vibes, authentic service, and really, really Italian food. Almost better than what I had in Italy.
Always a quality and authentic meal here. The pasta is fantastic. Depending on who you get, the service can be amazing or average!
Great food! The best burrata I’ve ever had in Sydney. And staff was all nice too!
I definitely visit here again in short time👍🏻
