Review Orso - Adelaide

Frank Sortino
My wife suggested Orso for a recent anniversary lunch and in all honesty I hadn’t heard much about it. After eating there however I believe this place needs to be on every foodies radar as a MUST visit. I would give this place ten stars if I could, honestly it was incredible. We did the chef’s selection menu and were not disappointed with anything that we ate. Dish after dish of deliciously well thought out plates. Flavour on top of flavour! All this in a beautiful setting, super friendly staff and well priced for what you get. I love this place and my wife and I cannot wait to go back. And being a restaurant that changes with the seasons it’s like a new menu each time.

Decided to come to Orso for a birthday dinner from a recommendation from my boss. There was 6 of us and we had the chef’s menu which was $85 a head. Although this was a bit pricey it was so worth it. The bread with the eggplant and cheese dishes was so amazing and the pastries were so yummy and light. The steak was easily a highlight, it was so easy to eat and tasted perfect. We had one vegetarian in our group and the food brought out for her all looked amazing and staff was really clear about what was in each dish which was really appreciated. Staff and service was very lovely as well. There was a waiter who was very helpful with drinks and helped us pick out a moscato which tasted really nice. The waitress who brought out desserts also offered to put a candle in for my birthday which was a really nice gesture.

Good value and flavours. Had the $85 'feed me' degustation Sunday lunch with my bff, quite a few courses we shared, very generous portion for each dish and all of them were nicely cooked. Great service and we had plenty of leftovers to take home with us.

A wonderful dining experience. We were seated at the kitchen bar with an excellent view of the hustle and bustle. Great bar staff on hand to mix cocktails. We had lots of sensational food. The roast potatoes were to die for.

Awesome place! Very well organised, staff and service was amazing and the food was absolutely delicious. Everything was well presented well portioned and just awesome; coming back for sure :) After 5+ years of driving past I can believe we didn't go sooner :)

Had a lovely weekday dining experience at Orso on a cold Tuesday night. We found the staff very friendly and accommodating. The fit out inside the restaurant is quite impressive and we were able to dine in the Alexandra room which was a little more intimate. The food was divine and we thoroughly enjoyed every dish we ordered. Definitely will be back

We were a group of seven girls celebrating one of our friends birthday. We decided to splurge on dinner at $85 per head plus cost of alcohol and other beverages. We came to this restaurant for ambiance and close to where we live. We didn’t mind paying over $750 for the whole Chef’s dinner if we were satisfied with the food served. Pasta was cooked with ground meat tough as old boots. Fish was smelly tasted rotten.. we were too polite not to embarrass our kind waiter.. very disappointed.. we would have gone to Ambrosini tried and tested for their fresh quality food.. at half the price.. we are all very angry and very disappointed.. will post more #%^#{^* comments in other social media.. we have over a thousand of friends between us who are like us love good quality food and will encourage everyone to share .. we all felt cheated.. Never again..

I have my dinner here with my friends. Tasty seafood pasta and roast pumpkin, and the roast pear with cream are all delicious. The staffs are friendly. They have a yard that allow to have the meal outside.

Life has changed and Orso has adapted. We love eating there but last night had a birthday celebration at home with a fantastic menu from Orso. The food was as good as at the restaurant and made our evening very special. The lamb shoulder and Bannockburn half chicken were sensational as mains and we also had two pastas and two small dishes. If you love eating out but need to stay home due to coronavirus this is definitely the way to go!

Service was top notch very nice staff. Food was very good but not brilliant. Servings were HUGE, so extremely happy that we left very full. Best part though was sitting amongst the eastern suburbs elite and enjoying their questions and requests of staff - Marvelous entertainment! 👍😄

We had an occasion that required a good meal so Orso it was. I have to say that our friendly waiter made the night - great suggestions, extremely helpful and funny. We worked our way through a fair bit of the menu and everything was delicious. Beautiful building and great atmosphere.

One of the best meals we’ve ever had, we had the Chefs Menu which was excellent value.
The courses were interesting, complimented each other and were so big we struggled towards the end.
Quality ingredients treated respectfully, it was all delicious.
The staff were charming and attentive but not intrusive
All in all great evening and we now have a new fave Adelaide restaurant

My new favorite restaurant in Adelaide. I have been several times since it opened earlier in the year and I have not been disappointed yet. The feed me option provides a plentiful amount of food and even if you have eaten before you can have the same option but enjoy different dishes than previously. Service is great, lots of indoor and outdoor seating. Parking can be tricky but it’s worth the hassle.

Been here twice now and beautiful each time!

I’ve had the chef’s menu each time because there’s simply too many to choose from and they have been excellent. Plenty of food for the whole group!

Some of my favourites have been the octopus (so tender!), the pasta (exquisite taste!) and the fish with sambal (surprisingly a winner!)

Definitely the place to go for a beautiful dinner. You won’t leave hungry!

Food made a few guests very ill. believe it to be the scallops. Contacted them about it but didn’t really offer an excuse or even an apology. Can’t rate it any higher because of this even though the staff were nice and the setting was also nice.

Well, I have been waiting for around 2 years for this establishment to open its doors and was excited to see they were finally ready for customers! We were there in the first week, so this review is a few weeks old now!! It’s really quite gorgeous and they have used the spaces well! We were seated in the main dining area and noticed how incredibly noisy it was, so we asked to be moved outside. We were told that our menus and so forth would be transferred to the new table, they never arrived! So, we then had to stop a waiter and ask for the menus. After a while, we also had to stop a waiter to get our drinks order going! Then, yes! We had to stop another waiter to get our food order going! They were busy, but the staffing seemed to be a bit fuddled! I have to say, the staff are all super lovely!

Had some cocktails to start, very nice, pretty low tide for the cost.

On the wine side, expensive, as you would expect.

The start of the menu has a title called Snacks, and trust me, that is exactly what it is! I would not personally call it a snack, I would call it canapes, that would be more appropriate.

We had the croquettes, which were okay, the eel, which was nice and the crab snack to start. The crab was not sweet and springy as we expected, quite mushy! The balance in flavours, we all thought, wasn’t quite right. Had the whipped ricotta, which, again, was just okay, the little flat breads are nice (this dish is a better size). The octopus and chickpea dish, is very good. The lamb ribs were also nice. We also had the steak tartare, what a huge disappointment. I have had this dish many times and even bought up with my father making this from scratch! The steak was chopped too thick and was already browning in certain parts, there was fat through this dish as well, big no no, flavour lacking and basically it was not pleasant to eat, we left this dish. I need to mention that when the waiter collected the plates and asked us what was wrong with the tartare, we told him straight, he did not like the answer and immediately changed his demeanour, we were offered no compensation nor any feedback from the kitchen on this, I would have preferred some feedback. We skipped on the mains as we had not been greatly impressed so far. In saying this though, I am happy to try again and hopefully the menu and attitude has improved. Went to Willmots next door the following week, but that is another review!

Will return to try again!

My new favourite fine dining joint ! We went for Orso's opening night and was blown away by their menu... Everything we had was delicious! Highly recommend the octopus entree. Can't wait to come back for breakfast and try their bakery next door as well
