This is a restaurant inside Box Hill TAFE as part of learning for TAFE students. The menu changes each term. Check their website for what’s available. Great value food with high standard service. For $25 you get a 3 course meal prepared by students and services by students. A reasonable range of cocktails for only $8, wines are very reasonably priced too.
Highly recommend.
This restaurant is Box Hill's secret gem. Parking is a problem, however I believe that they have their own dedicated car park around the corner.
We started with an appetiser - beautiful and fresh. Our entree was amazing. The squid was soft and with a soft batter that we were surprised. The eye fillet (tornadoes) was delicious - fresh and cooked to perfection. The jus was amazing as was the vegetables. Our desserts were fabulous. $25.00 for the 3 courses were amazing value and quality. Could not fault the service.
So impressed was I, that I have booked our AGM lunch here for 57 people. No doubt everyone will be impressed. Great management of the students. I was impressed.
Very Fine Dining and Excellent Service on a Budget.. This is a training restaurant for the Box Hill Institute. The Hospitality and Cooking school use the restaurant as a place to develop, practice and assess their skills, and we are the winners too. I have been here a few times over the years and I am always impressed by the enthusiasm of the students and the quality of the food. The restaurant is tastefully decorated, and would not look out of place as a venue for some of the finest dining in Melbourne.
Of course, as the students are learning, there may be a couple of misses, however being a hungry guinea pig here is a great experience. Overall, every meal I have had here has been memorable.
The quality of the food is right at the top end of fine dining, both in terms of quality and presentation.
On our latest visit we had: “Grilled Prawn Burger with 3 times fried chips” which was uniquely original and simply awesome. The “Gado Gado” could beat some of the best I have had overseas. For desert the “Grilled Peach, honey ricotta, lavender sugar” and “Frozen chocolate parfait, hazel nuts, liqueur, salted caramel” were exceptional.
The only real downer is that the restaurant is only open on weekdays for lunch and only on Mondays, Tuesday’s and Thursdays. (This can change throughout the year so check the Box Hill TAFE website)
You won't experience dining like this in many places in Melbourne for such a bargain.
It should be every Foodies Bucket List
