We went to Hills BBQ on a Friday night for dinner. There were a few tables of diners and plenty of space. The thing which I noticed first was that the floor was pretty oily and needed a good clean. The interior of the restaurant is dated too. Immediately after sitting down the waitress asks if we want to order lobster. We order a lobster fried with noodles, spring onion and garlic. They bring the whole live lobster to us for us to approve of the size before they cook it. The lobster meat was sweet, meaty and tender. The noodles were drenched in the thick gingery sauce. It was a delicious dish though I would have preferred it to have a punchier, stronger ginger and garlic flavour. We also ordered garlic fried dou miao which was fried well and still crunchy. We also ordered a fried rice. The rice was fried well with wok hei taste (breath of the wok), very tasty. Service was great - the waiter kept changing plates for us to put our lobster shells whilst we were eating the lobster. Will be back to try their other dishes.
I was pleasantly surprised that Hill's BBQ had a whole roasted pig on their menu. It was very well prepared with the all important skin resembling more like pork crackling rather than the classic thin crispy skin...but I'm not complaining! The skin was addictively crispy and delicious. The meat was moist and tender. The hoi sin sauce went perfectly with the meat. While it was quite costly, this dish was truly satisfying.
Go see Nick and his team for the best Chinese food in Box Hill. His team is service and detail orientated. Highly recommend. Thanks for dinner and a great night, 10/10!
