If you don't mind walking a little outside of boxhill central, this bakery gem is worth your visit. Each bun is lovingly made with attention to detail and flavour. The buns are even prepacked in a plastic wrap of a triangle manner so it doesnt touch the bun fillings, so u just pick and go:)

A lovely little Taiwanese bakery, with cafe. Exceptional range of handmade bakery products, and a small menu of meals, including authentic Taiwanese noodle soups, with hand made noodles. Exceptionally friendly and healthy staff. This place feels cozy and homely. Highly recommended.

Due to stage 4 lockdowns, we were unable to pick up a cake and deliver it to mum. I spoke to a staff (owner?) Justin and asked if they do delivery. He said no but he was happy to do this as a special for us. Mum was so surprised and extremely happy to get her durian fix. They said the durian cake was fresh, moist and delicious as usual. Thanks for making her day. Great service :)

Famous for Taiwanese specialties, the place is known for their pastries and local Taiwanese dishes such as Beef Bowl (Ru Rou Fan), Savory Soymilk, Homemade Soymilk, Egg Pancake, and much more.

Loved how they have local Taiwanese dishes not usually served in normal Chinese restaurants. I haven’t seen the savory soymilk with fried Chinese doughnuts since I was in Taiwan 4 years ago! Makes me so nostalgic.

Loved the soymilk 1L I bought home. It’s homemade and fresh.

The prices are affordable as well. Perfect for an easy, quick, casual meal when you’re craving for some authentic Asian food.

Grand Taipei Bakery is famous for their pineapple tarts and baked pastries, but those are not the only things that they excel in. Specialising in Taiwanese snacks such as scallion pancake, sticky rice, beef roll, savoury soy milk and the likes, this is a great place to grab a cheap and cheerful meal.

The savoury soy milk is my favourite. Can be an acquired taste as most people are more familiar with sweet soy milk, but the savoury version is just as delicious. Topped with Chinese doughnuts, spring onions and chilli oil, it’s akin to drinking a soup, although a not very aesthetically pleasing one.

The Chinese omelette is a great snack to share, and can be ordered wrapped around Chinese doughnuts. For those who are after a more substantial meal, there are rice and noodle dishes available such as fried pork cutlet with rice, and braised pork with rice.

One of my favourite places to frequent whenever I am in Box Hill, and it has proven to stand the test of time.

My rating: 4.5

Grand Taipei Bakery has withstand the time of severe changes to Box Hill over the years, and yet they're still there which proves to show that they are strong. Given the fact that Bread Top would be their biggest competitor however having said that, the types of bread and cakes Grand Taipei makes are slightly different to mainstream Asian bakeries which does make a huge difference. Grand Taipei are traditional Taiwanese bakery and they make their own cakes and bread in the shop and it has been the same for the last 25 years since I first discovered this place. I dont believe ownership has changed but still stays within the family business. It is authentic and very home-style feel.

Although the exterior of the shop looks tired and worn but it still is exactly the same bakery as 25 years ago when I first visited and over the years have once in a while popped in to eat or purchase their yummy bread and cakes.

🔆LOCATION🔆

Grand Taipei Bakery is located on the busy main street of Box Hill - Station Street, between Whitehorse Road and Bank Street.

The interior of the shop has also remained the same, no change at all. But you know sometimes its not about the look of the shop but the quality of the food that matters.

There is plenty of seating inside and opening for breakfast, lunch and dinner 7 days a week from 9.30am to 9pm.

Their menu is basic but alot of the food on the menu is traditional Taiwanese typical food you would get for breakfast or simple meal.

🔆SERVICE🔆

The staff always wear pink uniform with brown apron and brown headpiece. They have been the same for many years.  They are friendly and welcoming. You kind of get the feeling that its very home-style something that you dont see much nowadays.

🔆VERDICT🔆

My typical favourite if I go here for an early lunch would be Chinese omlette and donut with sweet soy milk. I love it. They make their own soy milk and its delicious.

Otherwise I would always order Fried Pork Cutlet with Rice. YuM! My all time favourite even when during my University days.
Their pickled cucumber and carrot are soo yummy, along with pickled cabbage, fried egg (runny), fried anchovies (Chinese style) makes the whole dish ever so delicious. The Fried Pork Cutlet still tastes exactly the same even 2 decades later, however of course price has increased and the pork quantity is still very generous, it is much less meat but still tastes great. When I am at Grand Taipei I love buying some bread rolls. My all time favourite back in the days were Pork Floss Bun or Spring Onion Roll with pork floss.

However over the years I have opt for Pork Floss Bread (refer to photo).  The bread roll has a very light crunchy pastry top, the bread itself is soft and fluffy inside (not dense at all) with the middle containing some pork floss. It is a nice alternative to the other Pork Floss Bun as it only has small portion of pork floss which is not overly too much but just enough to enjoy!!  Hence why today I was being quite naughty and ordered the Fried Pork Cutlet Rice and also Pork Floss Bread. Was feeling quite nolstagic, brings back memories of when my Uni friends and I would come here to eat and also hang out in the old Box Hill area!

For the price, the food portion & quality is there. Serving time is quite fast too. Ordered beef noodle soup & pork cutlet rice. Noodles was a bit hard but really liked the taste of the beef & the soup; pork cutlet was nicely cooked/fried. Nice & simple asian meal.

Very small but very good place. If you like Chinese traditional breakfast and bread, then you have to go this place. We always love the soy milk then made. Yummy.

Another Box Hill institution! Before the dawn of Breadtop, this was the place that we would come for our Asian breads and cakes. They continue to be fairly consistent in making high quality products, in particular their Swiss rolls...ooo la la! The coffee Swiss roll is my all time favourite. The strong taste of coffee goes well with the sweet cream.

They even have hot dishes if you feel like sitting down for a reasonable meal. You get a pretty grand experience at Grand Taipei!

This small store in Box Hill Central holds a sign in my heart, I grew up around the beef noodle soup, served hot from the kitchen to table, with the old setting around the place, it's really nice. I seriously recommend you go here, also, the green onion pancakes are to DIE FOR. The sticky rice rolls are also amazing, I come back a lot, and I suggest you go here if you already haven't.

Grand Taipei Bakery is a small store that serves a range of authentic Chinese breads, pastries and cakes. I grew up loving the mini sausage buns.
It’s a great place with many options. The cakes were not too sweet and soft, with butter cream.
The pastries were pretty nice as well. Don’t buy any products containing red bean or dates if you can’t handle very sweet things.
Some of my favourites were the taro bun, red bun, custard bun and egg bun. My mum loves the pineapple slice and my brother loves the pork burger.

This is one of my greatest dining memories.I wish I could have dined here at this restaurant since it will be closed soon. The beef noodle is quite authentic and so as the beef roll. As for the soy milk, it's delightful to taste both the sweet and salty options.

Been craving Taiwan baked goods lately and finally got around to trying this quaint bakery/Taiwanese cafe which has stood the test of time. Golly, it sure delivered! 🍞 We got the pineapple bun/菠萝包 which tasted just as good as ones I had in Taiwan after warming it gently with an air fryer. Their taro bread and roll cake were also incredible, you can taste real taro bits in the cream, I'm already ready for more! 😋 🍍 We tried their small individual pineapple pastry/凤梨酥 which was super delicious. The larger round pineapple pastry pictured is different to the small ones, the filling tasted more jam-like? We'll stick to the traditional small ones next time. 🍰 All round a wonderful selection of breads, pastries and cakes with reasonable prices averaging $3 or less per piece, I can't wait to return and try out the rest!

Great bakery with tasty and delicious Asian breads. The meals served here are pretty decent too, with authentic Taiwanese cuisine. Moreover, the prices are reasonable. Value for money. The staff here are friendly and welcoming. Good customer service. They are fluent in both English and Mandarin. Do pop in for a quick snack or even for lunch if you feel like it.
