The staff were very friendly. Food wise, we weren't given alot of choices just 1 set menu for a weekend dinner. We felt like it was quite overpriced for what we got, but the vibe was very nice. As well as the interior design.
The atmosphere is nice with a modern interior. I had the sushi platter. The A5 Hida Wagyu was amazing; it was buttery and just melted in my mouth. The toro tuna nigiri also melted in my mouth and was fatty. I got 4 cocktails, where my favourite was called ‘the ex’, served in a cute glass with dried berry crumbled on top.
The service was great. A great location near bus and tram stop. Staff was friendly and took care of us well. Great value for food. Every food item had luxury added into it. Wagyu was one of the best I’ve had and very flavourful. Need to touch anything, staff cooked everything in front of my eyes!!

In Box Hill where the dining scene is mainly made up of inexpensive, family friendly places, Katori is a bit of a special venue where couples can go for a romantic night out, or for a few close friends to celebrate a special occasion.
Its normal dinner menu can be expensive, with the price tag set at around $140 per head. I have heard many good things about this place, and also discovered that they have a much more affordable lunch menu. For as cheap as $15 you can enjoy their gyu don, with premium cuts of beef that are way more superior than what you get at the fast food joints at a similar price.
I ordered the gyutan don, which is the ox tongue rice bowl, for only $18. Excellent portion size and value for money. The ox tongue was delicious and succulent and the rice was full of flavour, soaking up the juice from the meat. Service was friendly and attentive, and it was not busy when I went. Their lunch service is from 11am to 2:30pm everyday (I think so, not sure about weekends, so it’s advisable to call beforehand to make sure) so I strongly recommend going for a lovely meal while enjoying the peace and quiet.

😱Lizzie’s first impression: hands down one of the best and most refined Japanese barbeque place I've been to - the ambience appears high end but not snobbish; the food is of premium quality and the staff are very attentive.
🍩Lizzie enjoyed: I tried the 9 Course Dugustation Menu and it was impeccable.
First up was some edamame with truffle oil and sea salt - very interesting as I've never had Edamame peas with truffle oil before. It was subtle but definitely made a difference.
Katori Signature Sashimi - tried their most popular sashimi and it was super fresh and looked aesthetically pleasing
Signature Wagyu Sushi with Black Caviar - this was definitely a highlight for me - it was soo yummy and was seared well. The flavours were amazing and I'd come back just for this.
Wagyu Mince Ball with black sesame sauce - think a black balls with goodness inside - The Wagyu Mince almost tasted like tuna for me but nonetheless, matchde well with the sesame sauce
Next up was the Yakiniku MS9+ Wagyu Platter - It was handsdown INCREDIBLE and would recommend this. It was super tasty and was so soft and almost melted on my tongue.
Hot Stone Foie Gras with Truffle Rice - it was my first time trying something like this and I was pleasantly surprised. The Truffle Rice was so fragrant and tasted amazing. This went well with the homemade Miso soup. I was so impressed.
Lastly, we finished off with the water flower cake for dessert. What a way to finish off my night - it was a so cleverly made and I loved the icecream that it was paired with.
🍅Lizzie did not enjoy: it's situated in Box Hill which is home to many great restaurants - but definitely worth travelling to as everything was really tasty.

This place is by far the my favourite restaurant in the eastern Melbourne. Came here last year, the service was disappointing however came again to try after they change menu couple days ago. My god!!!! The service is spot on very personalized and they actually remember your name!
The four of us ordered tokujo?platter (which is their above 9+ platter). The marble and texture of their meat just makes the whole dish so worth the money. Having been to Wagyu ya and oniku so many times, I think this place has so much more value to money...not to mention they are even slightly cheaper...with this kind of ambience, the service and the food.
Already planning my visit next week yikes!

@katorijapanese best A5 hida beef in Melbourne. Just some small recommendations to Katori. Why don’t cook for customers for such good beef? You need to teach customers how to appreciate different parts of the beef with different timing. More small name tag with each part will be also nice suggesting. I like Katori better than Niku Ou but Niku Ou provides better service and dining experience. Hope Katori can improve and give a thumbs up and look forward to Omi beef
Great customer service, no issues. It was a little hard to hear some of them speaking, but still ok. Nice interiors, intimate. Had the charcoal bbq, with the wagyu platter and the premium wagyu platter, both beef was tender and very nice! Dipping sauce was tasty. The dragon beard on the dessert was melt in your mouth delicious. I would recommend the Toro tataki too.

Amazing decor and atmosphere . Was greeted at the door.
