Went on a quiet Monday afternoon. Street parking in the area is not great.
Ordered the salmon lion king, hotate (scallop) aburi, avocado maki, gyoza and chicken katsudon.
The sushi dishes were so delicious (as expected). Gyoza was 4/5.
The chicken katsudon was 2.5/5. The chicken was completely soggy. I would not have been surprised if it was cooked beforehand (with the egg already on top) and just microwaved. I’ve had Japanese where the chicken was fried beforehand and kept in a heater. The chicken on those occasions were dry, tough and not crispy. But at least it wasn’t soggy! The pieces of onion were quite large so I didn’t want to bite into them, just left them in the bowl. The sauce was not flavourful enough to save the bland egg and soggy chicken.
The table next to us had ordered curry which smelt amazing. I would have ordered that had it not been a stinking hot day!
Sushi Kotobuki is on the other side of town from where I live. I probably wouldn’t go out of my way to return but definitely would drop in for sushi if in the area.
The lion king roll is absolutely amazing and the ruby roll is also very good! The staff here are always nice and friendly.
Brings back good memories of when I used to live and work in the city.

This place is truly heavenly. This place is consistently good and I’ve been a million times. It’s super reasonably priced and the sushi is the best.
This is the place you take your friends to ease them into the idea of eating raw fish. Cheap and healthy option. You stroll 800 meters down the block for a beer afterwards
Seriously good! Best sushi in Brisbane. The atmosphere and setting isn’t great but the food and prices make up for that. Really good quality fish
The rolls are huge and first time visiting we definitely over ordered. The bowls have a large amount of rice and the rolls seem to be the go. 1 roll and a smaller plate is more than enough
This place is so fabulous. It’s hidden away in a complex. It is cheap as chips and the service is very quick. The restaurant has basic presentation - steel chairs and whatnot. The sushi is phenomenal and they put a lot of effort in to the presentation of the food. Good for a quick and easy sit down meal.
Your double prawn sushi is some of the best sushi I’ve ever had!! It’s made fresh right when you order it, nice and warm and so much flavour, I look forward to trying the other things on the menu.
Best chicken yakitori in town!!! Such flavour, delicate char and crisp, and no fatty chicken bits in sight. Another favourite is the salmon aburi, will definitely be coming back for these dishes again!!
The food serving was big. Food came quickly.
The fusion menu is very rich food with a lot cream cheese and mayo. Keep this in mind if want to traditional Japanese food. They do have a range of other items on the menu. The staff seem very nicely.
Sushi Kotobuki is one of the best sushi restaurants around Brisbane. The food is always of great quality, and the prices are more than generous. My favourite are the fresh salmon avocado and the fresh tuna avocado urumaki rolls. The agedashi tofu and the bento boxes are nice too. The staff are friendly and the service is really good as well. This is definitely my favourite place to visit to get all my sushi cravings satisfied.
Always a winner and a must visit for me whenever I’m in Brisbane. Sushi has a modern/Australian flair but is consistently delicious.
Can recommend the cream cheese chicken sushi. Separately, the seared salmon nigiri is the best I’ve ever tasted.
The decor is no frills but not an issue when the food is that good.

First sushi restaurant with no train 😁. Had photos of menu items on the wall and it looked exactly like it when it came to the table 😃
Come here almost every week. By far the best sushi in Brisbane. Always fresh, big portions and well priced. Never had an issue here. Always recommend to my friends.
I've been going to Kotobuki for ten years. Always delicious sushi. Consistent, fast service. Great price. Fantastic staff.
