Disclaimer: the food is amazing
Decided to give the place 3 stars hoping they will pay attention to detail and consider that service is an equally important part of the business.
The guy at the front was dry and seemed in a bad mood. With my order in particular he called the wrong number several times and after roughly 10 minutes he realised I was the one that had placed the order. He rudely asked for my ticket number, handed me the food and didn’t say sorry or thank you at all.
Foodwise is just great. Super fresh, tasty and cheap. Try the spring rolls too!

My partner and I have been going to Kim Thanh nearly every Saturday for roughly 3 years to get the mock duck bahn mi. It was incredible!
However new owners have taken over now and replaced the mock duck with something that could possibly be canned dog food. I hope they reinstate the Kim Thanh mock duck to its infamous reputation.

So disappointing! I’ve been eating and thoroughly enjoying the crispy mock duck Bahn Mi for 3 years and they were the best ever. Now the recipe has changed and it was so disappointing 😢 I think the business must of been sold as it was closed for a short while it’s all different now with different staff ect. So sad to see such a consistently delicious recipe change. Unfortunately I won’t be going back 😭

My partner and I used to love their mock duck and tofu banh mi. But with the new owners coming in, the mock duck is different, no sauce, replaced chilli with chilli sauce (excuse me??). I hope the previous owner would come back!!! This is not the kim thanh banh mi I want!!!!!
Ms Mo
Sadly I agree with others that it's gone downhill after the change of ownership. Good news though, the original mock duck can be found just down the road on Boundary St opposite West Village!! Yay!

Had a very nice tofu banh mi and authentic Vietnamese iced coffee ($11 only). Light yet consistent lunch, warm and delicious. I loved the fact that you can add fresh veggies for free. Very cheap for the quality.
My friend order duck banh mi and was delighted too.
Will come back!

Best Banh Mi around town. Made like the streets of Vietnam.
Crispy pork is the winner for me.
Brett Tequila
Not as good as they use to be. Still better than any of the others in area though. No daikon or spring onions and very weak pickle but it was good, just not great. They use to be awesome. A little less meat with more salad and shred carrot finer for mine.

I meant to go around the corner to buy a Banh mi for my my wife after the brekkie at the West End Coffee House; unfortunately, it has not started trading yet so I went across the road to this bakery. Have not been back over eight month and there was a young lady serving me with proficient attitude. Ordered the Banh mi with crispy pork without coriander but chilies.
I witnessed she took the just out of the oven roast pork to the display cabinet and chopped up one of those for my order.
Let me tell you that the baguette is crispy and so as the roast pork.
Definitely, it keeps the record of full mark review👍
Previous rating: Dec 2019 4.5/5

This is by far the best Bahn Mi in Brisbane. Having tried few different places. This place reminds me of Vietnam. Good Bahn mi and they offer chilli which is a good sign that it is authentic.

Best banh mi is whole of Brisbane I’ve had so far decently priced, plenty of variety, made fresh & the flavour is unmatchable.

The bread is clearly cooked in house daily, it is SO soft. The crispy pork seems to have its own seasoning I’ve never tasted one like it
Spice Is Life
Finally gave our local Banh Mi shop a go. It was good banh, but it wasn’t the best we’ve had either. We ordered the Crispy Pork ($9) and Grilled Pork ($7.50). Would have preferred the banh to be filled with more condiments, but can’t really complain.

I’ve had few and this is in my top five for Bahn Mi. Has everything that you expect that comes in a toasted fresh roll. Super tasty with the correct proportions of fillings. A nice lady running the show as well

Aaaaw man, they just changed their Bahn Mi and now it tastes like garbage. They are using different bread and the tofu has changed too. Doesn’t have the same taste anymore and I would come here multiple times a week for the old one but now I don’t think they are worth it.
And the price has gone up another 50c.
This was my favourite place and I’m a little heart broken.

Nice bahn mi. Fresh bread, crunchy pickled cucumbers, good quality meats and generous on the coriander. Good value for money (cash only...)!

The rolls here are really value for money. I had a pork roll and it was so delicious. The bread was crust on the exterior and I love it! I'd definitely come here to get my banh mi fix!

Like a lot of the older places in West End, the main strength of Kim Thanh is that it's good value. Fantastic for college students and for workers out in search of lunch.

I wouldn't say it's 'the best in Brisbane' (Having visited Inala a few times), but it is definitely good and certainly worth saving the hour+ drive to get to Inala if you're a local from around central Brisbane.

Thanks to how they're made, their offerings are always pretty filling; several months ago they started selling not only the typical pork Bahn mi but also grilled pork, meatball and a couple other types.

The traditional one is of course always reliable, and we personally grew to like the meatball one a lot as well as it's much more hearty; if you like your salad do stick to pork, as the tastiest part is the seasoned salad they add.

For under $7 per 'sandwich', it's definitely a good place to check out if you just want a bite. Be aware there's no seating and queues can be a bit large at peak hours, and as it's a small place it can get a bit disorganised.

We've been coming here for years (before bahn mi was trendy) to eat what is probably the best bahn mi in Brisbane - crusty baguette spread with pate and filled with lighty pickled carrot, cucumber, fresh coriander, fish sauce, meat and chilli if you wish. It's fresh, full of flavour and very good value for money.
Hungrygirl
Definitely the best banh mi around town, all of those Vietnamese chains in the city cannot even compare. Always fresh and tasty, always served with a smile and a laugh, this place is where you need to go if you need a banh mi fix. You'll even walk away with change from your $5 note.

Support for this little place in the conner. The ladies always friendly all the time. Chicken and meat ball were so good all the time. Sometimes come here for my breakfast that the best choice

Best Banh Mi in town!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!?!?!?????!???!!?????!!!!!!!!!140 charaters

This is hands down the best banh mi. I've lived in Sydney for the past year and I cannot find a banh mi that tastes as good and I've been to all of the top rated ones!! They don't overdo the banh mi or jam pack it with everything, it's just the perfect amount and combination. Every time I visit Brisbane I always make sure I have time to swing by for the banh mi here.
Foodheaven76
We came here on a lazy Saturday morning where we enjoyed some smashing banh mi, pies and sausage rolls for our kids. With and without chilli, they were great and at $5, i don't think you can argue with that.

There isn't any seating available outside the storefront, but we were lucky enough to find a park bench around the corner and we made use of that!!

Gorgeous find.
Remy
Not bad, but not as great as other reviewers make it out to be. Better bakeries around!

CHEESE & BACON ROLLS FOREVER!. This has been an extended family favourite FOREVER. I remember getting the Cheese and Bacon's as a kid when I was at West End State School and they were only 80c a pop. We would rush down after school hoping there would be some left. Or beg mum to buy them for us for breakfast. I still eat them regularly and are the best thing from the bakery. Other favourites are the sweet bun, ham and cheese crossiants and the pies with a variety of fillings are a naughty lunch option. Great value, nice staff.

Pork Salad Rolls. P O R K S A L A D R O L L S!!!!!!

The rolls here are amazing!! Ask for chilli, extra pate and extra sauce and you'll be happy, happy happy!

Each order is made fresh and the service is great.

Oh my god! Where would I be without this place nearby! While other family bread shops have long gone out of business, this place is going strong, offering gorgeous French style baked goods. Vietnamese bakeries are a godsend in this country! And there are far too few these days. I digress, my main point are the Banh mi rolls. Absolutely sensational! Without a car I am pretty far from Inala so I love coming down to West End for a Sunday Banh mi brunch - so many great memories and it's the simple things done well that make this life what it is :) I love the lady who serves out front - she's a doll. I am so grateful to this place and hope it never goes!

Kim Than Bakery - West End, Brisbane. This is one place I can remember as a little kid, and close to nothing about it has changed even if lots of places around it have. It is so closely tied with going to the dentist with my family, as it is often visited afterwards. The prices are so cheap, that you can get quite a few snacks for a pocket money's worth. There is nothing to this place on an aesthetic level; for some warm service and tasty little treats though this is some of the value to be found.

To split with my dining buddy at home, I bought from here: a custard croissant, a snail and a Boston bun. $10 was enough to pay for all this, with change left over. Sniffing the aromas from the packet brought out buttery textures that were simply mouth-watering.

They freshly bake their products in store and it showed. The custard croissant was soft and buttery filled with really creamy custard inside. The quantity of the custard might have been modest, however like a pad of butter it went a long way.
As for the snail, there was all sorts of sweet goodies throughout the crust - sultanas, honey and icing. It was probably the stand out with great dough and such sweetness that felt almost contradictory to having been to the dentist.

Lastly was the Boston bun, which was the least sweet of them all and it was by some daylight. There was still a thick bit of icing on top. This sucker was really big that I had to cut it into quarters to eat by hand due to multi-tasking. The texture was really soft and it had slight hints of spice throughout.

A few aspects keep people coming back here: there is the convenient location for locals, the service is always with a smile, it is el cheapo and most of the items are really well done including freshly baked bread.
Still after all these years it proves to be just as good as it ever was.

Banh Miiii. My first experience with Banh Mi and it's absolutely delicious! Always lovely service. I love you Banh Mi.

The Vietnamese pork roll was my favorite. unfortunately I have stopped coming here after their last price increase. I used to pay $3.80 then $4 now $4.50 their sweets are ok the best is their vanilla slice but with cheaper prices at all other bakeries I have taken my business elsewhere

Best Banh Mi in Brisbane. Amazing Banh Mi/Pork & Salad Roll. Only $4.

Great Banh mi!. Price-10, Service-8, Food-10, Atmosphere-n/a
Might be the best Banh Mi I had in Brisbane!
Food Critic
The lady's here are always friendly. They also make the best banh mi thit (pork & salad rolls).
Tabehoudai
Banh mi/pork salad roll/Vietnamese pork salad roll. A rose by any other name would still smell as sweet. Whatever this creation's proper name is, it is delicious. Now $4. Still good value for money.

Nice and cheap. I used to buy bread from this shop all the time as I know they offer the best value for money. I don't recommend bagel though.

Diana. Always stop at this bakery if we are in the area, unbelievably cheap & mouthwatering delights here. Love the almond tarts

Believe the hype, the Pork Salad Roll is terrific.

Great prices. The pork salad roll is delicious! Definitely worth asking for. Lots of loaves at really low prices, will have to try that another time. Also got a custard roll which was great.

The prices here are amazing!!!!!! Ask for the Vietnamese pork and salad roll. $3.00 and delicious.

Awesome old fashion cheap bakery in the heart of west end. Can't go wrong with the prices. Biggest plus is that they are the only shop in west end selling Bahn Mi (viet pork roll).
Strayed From The Table
Best Pies. This is one of our favorite meat pies in Brisbane, and cheap too. i love that they have ginger in them.

The banh mi comes in two varieties - with chilli and without chilli. And it is always made fresh with every order... Kim Thanh is the one that offers the most reasonable price.
Cora Chen
The pork and salad roll was delicious. The bread was a standard crusty white roll and the protein in the filling was a type of pork loaf (i.e. reconstituted pork meat). There was also a generous amount of pickled carrot, fresh coriander, hot chili sauce (which was optional) and some kind of pate. It was a delicious combination of flavors and textures.
