Dinner at Melati, we haven't been here since ownership changed (before May 2018). Liz and Eric are now retired and passed on the family business to their nephew, who's redecorated the place, modernizing it. Ripping up the carpet and removing those vertical blinds (from the 80/90s) in favour of fairy lights, floorboards and modern lighting.
Have not been to Melati for a few years and went back as looks renovated and fresh! I was not disappointed and wish I’d returned earlier.
It is a simple, clean yet warm atmosphere - the staff were so kind and friendly.
The food was amazing - the different appetisers so fresh and tasty and the food has so much flavour! Will definitely return and make this a regular. Plus it’s BYO!
Food is delicious with plenty of flavour! Loved the chicken satay kebabs, corn fritters, curry puffs and lamb pancakes for starters! Restaurant is warm and inviting and service is great! Will be coming back!
If you miss Bali and Balinese food, this is the place to unleash your cravings. Place very clean and friendly staff. We ordered the Set A Banquet. They were all so yummy. Generous with spice and herbs. For dessert, we had panna cotta and creme brulle. A. M. A. Z. I. N. G. We’ll be back soon.
Despite the humble decoration, Melati offers authentic Indonesian cuisine, in particular Balinese local food.
Been here couple of times, most of the food are tasty, representing authentic Indonesian distinctive taste which tend to use herbs and spices

We went here for dinner and it was very quiet in the restaurant on a Saturday night. Not having been here before, we opted for the Set A banquet, which was very well priced for the amount we got.
Service was wonderful - warm, super friendly and attentive. The timing of the courses being delivered was perfect. We never felt rushed and they were delivered right after we had finished the previous one.
Food was also excellent. Felt like it was more on the traditional end of Indonesian cooking which we appreciated. The mixed crackers, corn fritters and sausage were excellent starters, with bright flavours and smartly sized portions. The chicken and pork mains were also both excellent, with the spice and sweet coconut of the snake bean salad cutting through the fatty, crispy pork and sweet, well spiced, smoky chicken. The salad may actually have been the pick of the dishes for mine.
We finished with tea and two desserts, which were both enjoyable and well presented. We left full, happy and having only spent a touch over $30 a head for an excellent dinner. No complaints from me.

Friend and I went for the Set B banquet meal that comes with the below :
- crackers : very flavourful and varied,
- milk tea : average, not very sweet (to our liking), quite a balanced flavour but obvious use of typical bubble tea shop milk powder
- corn fritters and beef curry puff : both with interesting flavours served with sirarcha mayo and sweet chilli sauce. corn fritters have a nice touch of curry taste and although beef curry puff was tasty, the serving was unexpectedly small
- gado-gado : not much to comment on this because this cannot go too wrong, interesting choice of vegetables with tasty peanut sauce
- lamb curry : definitely wasn’t my favourite as the lamb taste was abit too strong
- Chicken satay : meat was really soft and served with a good sort of peanut sauce combination
Overall service was good (we were the only customer there) and they were flexible with us changing some of the choices on the banquet (we replaced the spring rolls with corn fritters). Was slightly worried at the start that there won’t be enough food for 2 but we left the place being really full so value was good. Ambience wasn’t too bad and I personally enjoyed the music a lot! As for food, I’d say they’re pretty average, no wow factor but wouldn’t mind returning.

Quite pleased with this food choice! The owner was very attentive and nice, was also quite apologetic due to the delayed service (think it's just a one off from other reviews).
Ordered the corn fritters, nasi goreng and chicken skewers. I CANNOT EXPRESS HOW DELICIOUS THE FRITTERS ARE. Fried to perfection, outside was crispy and inside was extremely flavoursome, hands down my favorite (will come back to eat this: A+).
Was quite disappointed with the nasi goreng though, was a bit bland and the chicken seemed dry, flavours weren't developed as anticipated :'(
Skewers were well marinated, peanut sauce was addictive, VERY HAPPY.
Value for money was quite good, would recommend this place for an affordable delicious meal, will definitely be back!!
The food is delicious and you can taste the freshness in every bite. It was amazing overall with food and service. If you wanna try indo food, melati is the place to be👍👍
My partner and I were greeted by lovely staff upon arrival, and our food was ready for pick up immediately! So yummy! Very happy :)
We had the Nasi Goreng & Ayam Penggang
What a gem! Never really noticed Melati until we drove past and saw how packed it was on a Saturday night! It is a small homely restaurant with family value. Eric was really attentive and friendly. Checked we were happy with the food. Totally trust his recommendations!! Will be back :) a lot of variety on a small menu.

The food is beautiful and I learnt that many of the sauces and gravy are made from scratch from fresh ingredients. I am glad that there's a place in Melbourne whereby I could have authentic Indonesian food. The atmosphere feels cozy with a modern touch after the renovation. Would definitely recommend!
Nice little restaurant with amazing food. One of the best Indonesian restaurant I have been in Melbourne.
We felt like an impromptu weeknight dinner, and had driven past Milati recently. We decided to go there and they completely blew us away. The moment we walked in, the service was friendly and we felt very welcome. The garlic crackers were delicious and the lamb pancake exceeded expectations. We also had the soy braised pork which was soft, delicate and extremely flavourful; but the chicken curry was, by far, our favourite. Aromatic and incredibly tasty. We loved it so much, we came back a week later! This is our new regular!
I'm a big fan of Balinese cuisine and this smacks all other restaurants I've dined at out of the park. The food was outstanding and the service genuine. In recent years I've been disappointed with all rendang that I've eaten around Melbourne, but this beef rendang has reinstated my love for the dish.

Literally just walked out of this amazing find. Every dish was full of flavours; the spices were really well balanced and at an affordable price. Top it off with a BYO service... Such a great find. We will be back!
