Very decent yum cha with a rich variety. The food tastes really good. We came at 10:30 sharp, and seemed to be the first patron but they forgot to open the door.:-) One minor thing about the food is the dumplings are a bit over steamed. So it is a little hard to pick up in whole. Otherwise, everything is as expected. Will definitely come back.

I've been to the Scholar a few times in the distant past, but this was probably my first visit in 3 or 4 years. I've previously enjoyed their yum cha a lot!
This was my first time in ages actually dining here.
Service ok - good.
Food and drink:
Red wine - not my thing.
Lobster dumplings - excellent! Hot, crispy and packed full of crustacean. ( Possibly not all lobster)
Szechuan lamb - ok
Boneless duck with orange - very good. Quite sweet but the tartness of the orange helps.
It wasn't very busy when we visited, but it definitely deserves more customers. It could do with a makeover but the food is legit.

Very very surprised with the place for yum cha today visiting from Sydney. Iād say better than a lot of restaurants in Sydney. Very fresh produce too š¤ššš

Enjoy juicy prawn and chive dumplings, a super smooth congee (it would be good if this came with pickled veggies or a Kim chi) and lightly fried turnip cake. The Scholar is a good place for yum cha in Canberra. crispy (and slightly) sweet sesame balls, like a fried mochi ball, are a nice end with a hot tea. Worth a visit

Average yumcha. Extremely busy on the weekend with a line forming from 11:30am. The portion sizes were smaller than other places and the dumplings were over-steamed. On the upside they had a decent menu selection and the manager was attentive and nice.

Ordered a live lobster and so looking forward to a great dinner celebrating My birthday.
The lobster cooked in ginger and shallot sauce. When the lobster dish arrived pieces around the body and legs the meat tasted soft and smell of ammonia. I believed they switch my live lobster with a spoiled lobster.
The waitress was furious and keep advising lobster was alive and took remaining lobster away and they said they will compensate it.
We went there 6 people and they charge us 7 people tea charge. Also, the receipt said 10 % discount. But not even 5 % discount.
Strongly not recommended this restaurant.

Do not order delivery! The Scholar has excellent food but their deliveries are horribly slow. We ordered tonight at 6:08pm and the food finally arrived at 7:50. We live about 3km from the restaurant so it's not like it's a long drive. Half the food was stone cold.

Very bad customer service. Wait for 40 minutes for 2 small soups. Then another 30, 20,20 minutes for left 3 dishes. I even thought I am having a fine dinner.
Understand short of staff, but cannot stand is the customers behind us got quicker most dishes than us. Ask waitress, feel because we complain about slow service. they take us even longer on purpose. When ask them, the answer they said they put the wrong order.
Feel be discriminated by one of the lady staff.
