Hands down one of the best bakeries in Melbourne. This Russian inspired little bakery cafe has a number of specialities which I love - top of the list being the dumplings. These are European-style, savoury dumplings; you can choose between mushroom, potato, or a mixture of both (my personal favourite), topped off with the all important sour cream. These dumplings need to be tasted to be believed, but not for the faint hearted if you prefer light meals.
One thing I can't pass over is the complementary bread before the main meal. While often this might be heavy, rye-style bread, it is outstanding. Served simply with some butter, the danger is that you'll eat it all and fill up before your main!
I also need to give a shout out to the cake selection. There are usually several cakes of rotating flavours which, when accompanied by high quality Melbourne coffee and fresh whipped cream, literally go down a treat.
This place is actually tiny - you'll feel like a nineteenth century gold minor scrambling to get your hands the last known mining licenses - so you do feel like you're tripping over one another. That said, it just adds to the atmosphere and the perception of scarcity for the produce.
We had a very nice brunch here awhile ago. The food was delicious and the service was fast and friendly.
Amazing tarts, really delicious. Their tart's crust is crispy and light, at a perfect thickness. The ratio of filling to pastry is also well-balanced. Absolutely loved it - will definitely come back to try all their different baked goods!
