Great little place. Everything looked delicious. We have tried plain, chocolate and almond croissants. They were all one point. Flakey and delicious. My only criticism is that the price is a bit high at $5.50 for a plain croissant. It’s not worth that much when you can get it cheaper elsewhere for the same quality.
We passed Gontran Cherrier after we had a meal near Camberwell area. Our friend is a big fan of Gontran and insist us to try their famous croissant. Now we can understand why he loves it and he does not want to share. We ordered Gontran's Almond Croissant ($6.5) Love it!. So fragrant and nice and moist. Love how we can taste the almond without being too sweet and still taste the buttery taste of the croissant.
Great choice for a quick continental style breakfast. The chouquettes are fluffy & light, not too sweet! Order a few of these as they are only 60 cents!! 😲 the plan croissant is also the best in the area! The soy flat white wasbrewed with st Ali “orthodox” coffee blend. It had well balanced flavour which I enjoyed very much!

Celebrity Chef, Gontran Cherrier, opened his first Australian bakery in Smith Street in 2016. The Hawthorn location soon followed in September 2017. This French chef, with three generations of baking behind him, is now a well-known name in Melbourne, Paris and Singapore, Japan and South Korea. It is not just about bread – no French bakery is. But it is the bread that really shows you his talents and the inspiration of the Gontran Cherrier brand.
Their pear tart was absolutely delicious, though it is not so cheap either. We got to sit at the front, which has a large glass window looking out to the street and enjoyed a very relaxing afternoon.
I can say thumbs up 👍👍 to this french patisserie that serve the best croissants , almond croissant and also their pain au chocolate, can fault any of it as they are too good and delicious...
Gontran Cherrier had a stall set up at Bastille Day yesterday and I couldn't resist a pain au chocolat. I bought this along with a normal croissant and some sour dough bread, which I am looking forward to having with my morning breaky!
The pain au chocolat was really enjoyable and I highly recommend.
One of the Best pastries in Melbourne. This is my second time visiting this shop. We still love the croissant & escargot, which match perfectly with coffee.
Highly recommended!!!!
Who could say no to French pastries? Stopping by for a quick breakfast we ordered the zucchini & feta and ham, egg and cheese savoury danishes along with coffees and were not disappointed.
I had the zucchini & feta, and I was impressed with the quality of the toppings.
Everything on display looked temptingly delicious. Next time I plan to try something sweet.
Overall I rate Gontran Cherrier ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ out of 5 stars. I recommend you check them out if you’re in the area.
Stopped here for a quick iced coffee.. the almond croissants looked mind-blowing. Pity I had just eaten because their pastries looked incredible! Their design and packaging is enough to make me beam with happiness.
