I had dinner there last Friday to celebrate Chinese New Year. The food was wonderful & well priced. Lots of selection & especially if you love fresh seafood. This is a new venue & the decor is modern, with low lighting at night. The staff were really attentive. It will not take long for the Hawthorn locals to realise what a good find this is & become regulars. Looking forward to going again.

I am regular to this place for their chicken curry laksa. I have been trying laksa at various places to see if any beat their laksa. Kapitan's is the best till now. Laksa soup is not too spicy and flavourful, paired rightly with chicken schnitzel.
Nice Food. Especially for Egg Crab. Yummy Yummy. We also tried fried rice and black pepper wagyu.All good. Not recommend for honey prawn a little bit salty.
Delicious! We went on tuesday and all the crabs were half price if u paid in cash. Definitely good value to go in there. I like how the waiter showed us two receipts at the end, one is before the discount and one is after lol. The crab meat was decent, the flavour was good. My favouritr has to be the egg yolk one!
Best crab restaurant in all of Melbourne especially the salted egg yolk flavour. Highly recommend to anyone that likes crab. Friendly service and great environment
They serve the best seafood fried rice i've ever eaten. The hor fun was also delicious.
The portions are generous, and the decor and tableware classier compared to the average SE Asian restaurant's. I'll be going back to try their crab dishes.
Service was average. The chilli crab was a little sweet. Truffle scallops needed more truffle. The salted egg prawns were definitely the highlight of our night.
If you are on a mission to satisfy some serious crab craving, this place is guaranteed to deliver happiness to your tastebuds and tummy! Kapitan has uphold its spot as the to-go for mud crab that its predecessor Omah used to be. Chilli crab and Salted Egg Yolk crab are must haves and everything else can come after. For variety, prawns (Coconut prawns), pork ribs (Zhen Jiang) and greens (Sambal beans) were ordered and all were equally tasty.

Only food that we ordered that we couldn’t eat was the thai steamed barramundi fillet. Not too enticed with the taste as well as the smell. It had this strong scent that sort of smelled like cleaning agent. That’s the best way my friends and I could describe it. It was the only dish that disappointed us.
However, will definitely come back to this place. 👍🏼👍🏼
Delicious and value for money.
Ordered the Mee Goreng and Special Fried Rice (L). Portions were great. Both dishes were tasty and full of flavour. Both items are very well priced and dishes were ready for pick up within the stated wait time.
Will definitely recommend to others and will return to try other menu items.
Always been happy with this place. Their lunch specials are pretty good and cheap. Went for dinner, which is a bit on the pricey side, but the flavours are worth it. The portion size is quite good as well. Overall this place is worth a visit, and is going to be a regular dining place for me.
Kapitan is a decent sized Malaysian restaurant that offers authentic Malaysian cuisine at reasonable prices. In fact, the food is so good that I have decided to go back again soon. I ordered Curry chicken, roti canai, vegetable laksa and Nasi Lemak. All dishes were balanced in terms of flavours, spices, presentation and portion. The food was also served quickly. Roti canai wasn't too thick and therefore was crispy. Thick rotis can give you a taste of raw flour.
The owners and the waiting staff are polite and professional.
There is enough space to have a party. I guess the restaurant can accommodate up to 80-100 guests at one time. The are three separate sections making it easier to hold a private party without bothering others.
Parking is available on the street but there is also a free 3 hr parking about 200 metres away.
Overall, a good experience.

The place to go in Hawthorn for Singapore chilli crab. This restaurant is located where Omah used to be on Burwood Road in Hawthorn. Staff were attentive. Decor trendy.
Always a fantastic experience at Kapitan from their service to their food. The salted egg yolk encrusted crab is the best in Melbourne and their other dishes are very good too, as well as reasonably priced. Don't hesitate to visit.
