I was initially drawn to the Good Kitchen by a photo of 皮蛋瘦肉粥 on its Zomato page. This implied to me that it would be a quick and easy place to get a quick and easy feed. It was only until we were situated and tea had been served that I realised that The Good Kitchen is very much a legitimate restaurant, complete with its own live seafood tanks (more on that later), and not as accommodating for a quick and easy meal. My girlfriend will attest that I deliberated leaving after looking at the menu, but ultimately stasis was the basis of my decision.
I think this place is newly opened or newly renovated, the owner was doing the most to ensure we were satisfied with the food. He recommended a lunch special for 4 which included pork and century egg congee, breadsticks, steamed chicken (amazing!), beef rice noodles and Chinese broccoli. Really good price for delicious Cantonese food!
Been going here for years now. Very consistent place that you can rely on for tasty canto/hk food. Wide range of dishes on the menu, not fancied up that keeps things interesting. Always new things to try, not that I tend to. Prices are standard. They also have pretty good breakfast/arvo special deals that's always a bargain.
Consistent HK styled chinese food. This is our local go to place when we don't feel like cooking. For dinner, we go for for the set for 2 people - pick 2 dishes from the list + vege + rice + complementary soup.
I usually eat here for the afternoon tea from 2-5pm. The food is relatively cheap and the style of food is very similar to the ones you find in HK cafes. With the likes of instant noodles, French toast, rice rolls etc. accompanied with a free drink of red bean milk or milk tea. My friend rejected a free drink. HAHAHAHA
This is a typical kind of Hong Kong style cha chaan teng (cafe) which is right here in hurstville. They offer the full cha chaan teng works.. Breakfast sets, lunch, afternoon tea sets, and a range of Hong Kong style dinner dishes. I found it by chance, and I ordered the breakfast set with instant 'doll' noodles, ham sandwich, and ice coffee. Service is the usual abrupt and not so nice, but that's not what I came here for.. It's the value for money Hong Kong food, and experience.

Agree that it is as good as you get for Hong Kong cafe food. It clearly is a local favourite. We did stand out a bit not being from the area but we overcame the language barrier.
Zomato says $60 for 2 people - this will see you VERY well feed. For $60 we each had a soup (1 dumpling one pork & noodles - both are main sized serves) a pork dish and a prawn dish - again both very generous on size. And, rice.
Fortunately it's normal to ask for containers to take your remains home. We have plenty for dinner tomorrow night.
Other: booking not needed, BYO, cash only.
This is as good as you will get when it comes to "Hong Kong style" cafe food.
The decor may not be that inviting but all is made up with excellent food at great prices.
My personal favorite is the lunch special, I have Satay Chicken with flat fried rice noodle, served with an ice milk tea ($11). There's an assortment of dishes available on the lunch special board, however it's all written in Chinese, so you'll need to ask.
Breakfast is served up till 11.30am. The breakfast special is also great value, I have the chicken congee served with spring roll in steamed rice noodle. I can hardly finish it all, and it's great value at $8.50.
Another good special is the menu that offers two dishes, rice, soup and veg for $26. The soup is always quite plain, but the choice of dishes is vast. For example you can have whole flounder (steamed or fried), with salt and pepper calamari, with steamed rice and veg for around $13 per person !!!
I've had the oysters and lobster here once, and it's as good as you'll get anywhere, with the prices for those being standard.
As I say, if you are looking for a nice romantic experience with great decor....this isn't it. But for good food and a good price, it's hard to beat, even in Hurstville.
Definitely surprised by the food here. Don't judge a book by its cover. The food here was just fantastic. We usually come here during the day but we discovered the dinner set menus and it delivered alright. The XO crab with vermicelli was phenomenal as was the salt and pepper pork.
This steaming hot bowl of congee was GIGANTIC and this was no exaggeration. LeeLoo was the only diner and was doubting her ability to finish all of it because it was seriously fit to feed three mouths at least. However, being the beast that LeeLoo is at eating congee, she managed to finish all of it including all of the you tiao.
Friendly staff, acceptable food but kind of home cooked quality, so not something you can’t DIY with the right tools. The congee was a bit off and when we told them they instantly changed it for us, no bad attitude at all! I ordered from them on EASI and the taste is amazing. I love the crispiness of the salt and pepper pork and the fried rice is nicely seasoned not too salty at all!
Looks like your avg run of the mill Chinese restaurant, but the food is here very good for a good price. They are famous for their "Free Range Chicken", which is less fatty and I assume corn fed. They offer great value on their Set Meals for parties of 2 or more. Food is freshly made and staff are friendly. Large range of traditional chinese dishes.
Went there with my friends two days ago. We ordered a set which cost about 120 AUD which included four dishes. The service in this restaurant is very good, helped us to change the plates several times, gave us a bowl of soup at first and dessert for free at last.
Also, parking is available outside the restaurant, very convenient!
This place is famous for serving the traditional Hong Kong style breakfast combo of congee and steamed rice paper rolls in a meal deal around the $10 mark. All 4 kinds of congee (minced beef, chicken & mushroom, seafood, mixed pork) are great.
TIP: Add white pepper to your congee to spice it up
Very very good Hong Kong style Cantonese food. Owner John very helpful with suggestions. Fish was live coral trout and cooked to perfection.
We have ordered a few times at this restaurant this month, and very happy with the food quality and freshness as well as the friendly staff. The Lobster with noodle is so affordable and yummy!! I will definitely recommend my friends and family to visit :)
Last Saturday I have ordered Crab Meat Vermicelli Casserole very delicious 😋 I love it .
Authentic Cantonese food. Reasonable price as well. The fresh seafood here is very delicious. The daily specials offer good deals. Dining environment is average. But take away is good.
