The best restaurant in Carlton. Brilliant staff, great food and of course fantastic wine, spirits and cocktails. Even the beer is top notch :-)
The Carlton Wine Room is absolutely superb! The food is mouth-watering, the cocktails are divine, and most of all, the staff are friendly, knowledgeable and attentive. Particular highlights for me are the pumpkin and ricotta dumplings, the beetroot salad and a chocolate slice for dessert.

Had Sopressa Salami & Cheese board :) It was a bit busy but definitely a neat place to hang out with your friends. Good vibes!
Nothing to fault. The service was friendly and efficient. Lovely wine. Amazing food, both original and super flavoursome.
- anchovy was well balanced on the crispy fried bread with the ricotta and the cucumber. Flavours worked so well together.
- raw scallop tostada melted in my mouth. Couldn't pinpoint the ingredients in the mixture on top but again well balanced with the scallop and tasty.
- octopus was delicious, very surprised how tender it was. Salad was delicious. Potato added a nice texture to the dish.
- spiced cauliflower and chickpeas were another surprise, an explosion of flavour.
- snapper in a ?curry-like sauce. Smelt amazing, tasted amazing. I sometimes worry that fish dishes can be a bit bland, but this dish was so (so) good.
- wagyu was perfect. Sauce was lovely.
- winter greens were nice.
Price was very reasonable considering quality and quantity of food. My new favourite restaurant in Carlton. Can't wait to be back. Highly recommended.

Hard to give Carlton Wine Room anything but a 5 with the exceptional food and service we received tonight as we dined in for a special birthday. I was probably more interested in the food than wine which was polar opposite to many in the table and the food was excellent.
We started with a small bite size selection, some Sydney oysters, raw scallops toscardo with a zesty topping followed this up with the anchovy flatbread with pickle cucumber and the pork and duck croquettes which we mighty tasty.
Our meal continued with another round that included the cauliflower salad with fried chickpeas and the potato focaccia with a flavoursome Stracciatella and olive oil based dip/spread.
For mains we were presented with whole snapper with a cafe de Paris butter sauce and lemon. This was accompanied by a fresh leafy salad and a creste di Halil Pasta.
As if all this great food wasn’t enough we indulged and a delightful dessert of chocolate mousse, salted caramel and coconut crumble.
Wine selection was long and although I care a lot less about the wine than people surrounding me could appreciate it enough to suggest there would be something for everyone’s tastes.
All up we spent about $150 per couple on the chef selection food menu and about $200 per couple of drinks.
I've been here twice with somewhat mixed reviews!
First visit wasn't wowed and service was rather dismissive. This more recent trip was a pleasant surprise! The food was delicious and we had efficient staff, nice wine too. Do try the anchovy on crisp bread, and the smoked cheese with mushrooms! Very creative
I wasn’t too excited to attend this place for a dinner with my love as the menu is not something I would typically go for but I thought I would give it the benefit of the doubt. I said to my partner at the end of the night that I was “pleasantly surprised.” I was limited as to what I like on the menu however what I chose was certainly done well. I highly recommend the stracciatella. The fish was also delicious and cooked to perfection. The fried potatoes just topped off a wonderful meal. The Carlton Wine room is definitely worth a look in.
Great food - beautiful wine and really knowledgeable and attentive staff. Good options for meat eaters and vegetarians alike. We were a mixed group of 6. You won’t find a better restaurant in town.

When I asked M where she wanted to go for lunch, The Carlton Wine Room was her immediate response. On the corner of Drummond and Farady Streets, it seems this place is popular with Carlton locals, uni staff and anyone wanting a tasty meal from chef John Paul Twomey (previous head chef at Cutler & Co). Despite the prestigious team behind the kitchen, M tells me it is welcoming any time of the day, and that there is one dish she craves enough for her to have gone back four times, ordering the same thing.
Great food, great place, great service. We've ordered the anchovies, stracciatella, kingfish Crudo, leeks with smoked pirk and parmesan, and one of their special the roast duck. I must say it was one of the most delicious duck I've ever tasted! So tasty and crispy. They've got good selection of wine list. The place is very cute. Highly recommended to try this place.
Went for Sunday lunch and it was just right - splendid sourdough, delicious dishes, superb sommelier!
