Ok so this was my second time here, but first for an actual dinner sitting. A close friend had her surprise birthday booked upstairs in an amazing private dining area; complete with it's own bar and waiter. Just wanted to add upstairs seems alot more classy & modern than downstairs in the main restaurant which was a great start to the evening..
I started with the BBQ ribs entree which came out very soft & ready to fall off the bone; as it should be! The sauce was a little spicy, but I like it that way. I washed it down with the remainder of my Sierra Nevada pale ale which matched it well.
Main was a very difficult choice but I was determined to try the steak & finally settled on the 850g Cape Grim ribeye cooked medium. The mains started coming out after about half an hour, and I was not disappointed with mine when it arrived! The main plate was accompanied by a side dish of onion rings & field mushrooms with goats cheese. While the main plate had the steak, wine jus sauce pot, and some oven roasted veggies. I decided to also order a side of brocollini which was a mistake, but everything went down amazing! The steak was cooked just right & the flavour was exquisite. I tend to prefer eye fillets, but this special cut from Tasmania was worth every last penny. Due to the steak size I also ordered a glass of Vic shiraz/malbec. Look for it on the wine list red fans; you won't be disappointed!
Will be coming back with the family next time to have more steak and a bottle of wine. Thanks for having us Railway Club Hotel I was delighted with my whole experience!
So lucky to have this place so close to home. Always exceptional, both food & service. Had the eye fillet which was perfect, the chicken liver pate to start with was heaven.
Highly recommend.
nice place and friendly service
Railway Club has been on my list for too long and I’ve finally been able to snatch a table last minute (cos I’m that last minute booking kind of person). First off we had the mussels which could possibly be the best mussels I’ve ever heard. Very fresh mussels cooked in this amazing tomato sauce based sauce with a hint of chilli. I couldn’t help but scoop up every last bit of sauce with the bread. There was a bit of a wait till our steaks came out. The steaks were pretty good but I guess I had higher expectations, they were a little overcooked and tough. Overall a great meal and their business speaks for themselves. The decor upstairs is also beautiful.
Excellent eye fillet cooked to perfection
I ordered the sweet potato fries, it turn out very good.
We enjoyed a lovely lunch here recently. Had the garlic bread, pate, porthouse steak special, my partner had rissoles and nephew had the burger. Everything tasted fantastic and the steak was a highlight. We enjoyed the dessert special choc icecream with orange jelly and custard, different but delicious.
I can’t rave about the food and wine and service enough. I am very fussy with steak and this place was extraordinary. Not often I give a 5 rating, well deserved.
Super friendly staff. Steak was cooked to perfection. With a very large serving of mushroom gravy sauce on the side. Will be back again!
It was a nice and intimate place, we get the table pretty quick, the waitress were amazing, quick and attentive. We ordered Eye Fillet, Porterhouses steak and beef burger which all delicious. The steaks were tender and Juicy as expected, we pretty happy with the place, will coming back to try different menu.
OK, I’ll start with the brickbat and end with the bouquets- the brussel sprouts were not so good. Why is it that some chefs still believe that hard veggies are the thing? They’re not...here’s a tip, slice them in half and let the little things caramelise a bit, adds sweetness and they are then tender and ready to eat. Hard green bullets are tasteless, unappealing and shite. Same goes to all hard vegetables. I’m not condoning to cook them till they’re grey, just cook the f$&@ers! As for the rest of the meal, good steak, good fish, good service, good sides (although the gratin used on the cauliflower and the mac n cheese tasted identical and bland) could be more bread also. A bit ott $ wise but they have good napery and plenty staff so you do get what you pay for (shouldn’t have paid for the sprouts in hindsight)
Steaks were great, well cooked and vegetables similarly met expectations. The fish was excellent and service was consistent prompt and attentive, considering we were a walk-in on a busy Saturday evening. We will be back on future occasions.
