This Argentinian restaurant is a hidden gem in a small laneway in Melbourne, the decor, furniture, interior design, the open kitchen, even the front entrance impressed us.
Full points to the wait staff for service, a very extensive wine list and ample authentic menu.
Our waitress was Argentinian, we sat by the wall of wine bottles, the restaurant was full and had to raise our voices a little to be heard across the table but I think that’s a good thing.
All the dishes are for sharing, the cured meat plate, the curitzo, lamb ribs, and sirloin strips to name a few...
We ate and drank well and left feeling quite satisfied, every dish was a winner and was great value for money.
My husband and I had dinner on April 25th (Anzac Day) at San Telmo. We had no reservations and the place was full. We decided to wait and go for a drink on the rooftop bar opposite San Telmo. Later on there was a table available at San Telmo and once we sat at our table, we were greeted by a warm/nice/friendly waiter called Raphael. He explained to us the menu and gave us some advice. The food was excellent and the timing was perfect. We ordered many dishes and each one was so tasty and different.
The staff was professional and friendly.
I highly recommend this restaurant.
I wish that there was a San Telmo in Sydney!
We love the food scene in Melbourne.
First date night dining with the bf post lockdown. We pre paid the $110 set menu which came with empanadas, fried broccoli, chorizo, short ribs, and what was originally supposed to be O’Connor’s rib eye we got an upgrade to wagyu rib eye as chef slightly over cooked our meat and wasn’t happy to serve it (impeccable service by the chef 🤩) + dessert which was dulce de leche and ginger tart.
Everything was nice and flavourful. Empanadas, fried broccoli, wagyu and dessert were the highlights. If we didn’t receive the waygu, rating would be more 3.5 than a 4 as overall, food did seem average. Nevertheless, wagyu was extremely soft and you leave feeling full and satisfied.
Staff was attentive and atmosphere is perfect for date night.

Came here for my birthday (feb) and it was soooo good! From the starters to the main! Now I get the hype about this place. They know their meats!! Will definitely be back when restrictions ease!

Review:
I loved the detail they brought into the food when we ordered. They automatically separated the list of food into sections and everything was delicious. Flavorful, punchy, and we finished everything so well. The Argentinian flavours were so different to what I was used to.
The service was amazing. Every time we finished a "course", the plate was changed so we could start a fresh. This level of consideration was unreal and a sight to behold.
Definitely coming back to San Telmo when there's a occasion!!
Friend picked this place and we went on a Sunday night. Booked at 6.15 and it was a full restaurant, must be in for a treat! Everything we ordered was super yummy! Loved the beef tartare and the fried broccoli the most. And of course the aged beed rid eye, so juicy and so much flavour! Service was friendly and attentive. Didnt have any room for dessert, have to come back!
My partner and I had an amazing experience here at San Telmo. We ordered the Ceviche, Tartar, Calamar, Papas and Ojo de bife. The ceviche was okay but was not our favourite, everything else that we ordered was delicious! Our waiter Lewis was awesome. He was very attentive, had great customer service skills and made us feel comfortable throughout the night. We hope our message can be passed onto him as we greatly appreciated his service and friendliness. Overall the food and service was awesome and we’ll definitely be back here again! Thanks guys
First time at San Telmo but won’t be the last and must say that it was a super All round dining experience of Argentinian theme.
Food was delightful without being overpriced.
Staff were courteous & informing by explaining the different cooking techniques & ingredients for different dishes & also an approximate time between courses.
Deserts were scrumptious & overall it was a delightful night.
Delicious from the first to the last dish. Great wine list. Definitely visiting again soon!
Excellent steak, excellent dessert.
We went to San Telmo on a Sunday evening and it was a full-house and bustling. The atmosphere was great - it wasn’t too dark yet the lighting was warm and was upbeat music in the background.
We were given menus immediately upon seating and our waiter gave us some lovely suggestions for wine and quantity of food to order.
We ordered the snapper cerviche and tartar to start. The cerviche was fresh and peppered with sunflower seeds for texture and nuttiness. The tartar was meaty and creamy and went perfectly with the soft toasted potato bread.
We also ordered the grilled chorizo sausage and the black sausage. They were smokey, tender and bursty and the flavours were savoury and just amazing.
We shared the 500g dry aged rib eye for main with a side of heirloom tomatoes and pistachio pesto. The combination of sweet, fruity, refreshing and umami tomatoes and basil in the pesto is timeless and genius. This salad was so simple yet so delicious. The rib eye was cooked to perfection, smokey from the grill and fatty. It was beautiful.
We were full so we didn’t have dessert but we will leave some space for it the next time we go back!
Had the ceviche, calamar, solomillo and ojo de bife.
Ceviche was alright. Fresh and tangy but nothing special. Should choose something else instead.
Calamar was fantastic. Had a very nice taste.
Solomillo was tender, flavoursome and juicy. So was the ojo de bife. Paired well with the chimchurri.
Staff was good as well.
