It wasn't bad, but the chicken satay wasn't authentic, it only marinated with salt and turmeric. It should have more spices etc etc. The peanut sauce is quite salty, the chef should have tasted it. Cuttlefish sambal also quite salty, would have been great if it wasn't that salty. On the other hand the sambal belacan is spot on, yum yum and cendol is delicious. I will go back, hopefully this time the chef or who ever that made the sambal and satay sauce do check the amount of salt they dumped in their cooking. By the way we had to ask the waiter to warm up the satay sauce as it was served COLD.
Loved it. Good food, quick service and friendly staff. Reasonably priced.
Sambal was impressive, chicken curry somewhat dry but fragrant. Lamb curry had good flavour and roti canai was reminiscent of Singapore/Malaysia
We decided to drive here because my partner was craving the Rojak.
It was my first experience so I didnât have any expectations.
Only a few diners allowed due to current restrictions and we waited about 10-15 minutes to get a table.
We were disappointed that the Rojak was currently unavailable because that was the reason we decided to come here.
Anyway, we ended up ordering the Roti canai, Kari ayam (chicken curry), Ayam goreng (fried chicken) and vegetarian nasi goreng.
The staff were attentive and the food came out quick.
The roti was good, very soft!
I wasnât a big fan of the chicken curry, it wasnât bad, but it wasnât anything special either.
The nasi goreng was good and full of flavor and you could tase the spices
The fried chicken was very good, it was very juicy and also crispy. I would come back here for the fried chicken again.
Overall the food was good. All the food had a bit of spice so those who donât like chili may not enjoy it.
Came with friends for a hearty dinner. The rotis were soft and buttery, accompanied with generous amounts of sauce. The dishes were full of flavour and the rojak was a great mix of textures and flavours.
Overall very good main dishes! The rice wasn't as amazing as the lamb, which literally crumbled in your mouth
This place is packed just about any day of the week. They specialise in amazing Malaysian street food.
Had the mamak mee goreng, satay and nasi lemak and it was amazing. We were so full but there is always room for dessert so we decided on the banana roti and we were not dissapointed. It went really well with the ice cream
Highly recommend their banana roti!
Used to love this place. Excellent fried chicken and sambal shrimp. The rotis are fantastic too. Little disappointed the last time I was there though. Poor service, dirty table and generally sloppy plating got it 4 stars instead of 5.
Visited Mamak for dinner with the family, and we were very happy with our meal. Loved the Roti Canai which was super light and fluffy. The Mee Goreng and Nasi Goreng were both very delicious and not too salty either. The Nasi Lemak with the fish curry was delightful - the fish was very tender and soft, although I feel that there was a bit too much rice to topping ratio. The Chicken Satay was good but the best part of it was the satay sauce - just amazing! You can even purchase a jar of their homemade satay although it does cost $8. For dessert, we had the Roti Pisang (banana), Roti Tisu and Ais Kacang. The roti pisang was very moorish, served warm and went perfectly with the cold ice cream. The roti tisu is so incredibly light and crispy, you almost donât feel it. I loved the ais kacang which was super refreshing and there was hidden red bean and grass jelly inside. For drinks, we had the warm teh Tahrik, iced white coffee and iced tea with lime. Loved the coffee which was strong, and the iced tea which had a nice tartness from the lime. The teh tahrik however was a little bit too sweet for us. Overall, we had a nice meal at Mamak and left feeling satisfied. This place is super popular so get in early if you donât want to wait in line.
I like the food, though my partner doesn't.
Dined for a quick lunch. Ordered egg roti (my favourite) & chicken satay. I also enjoyed the Malaysian tea. Everything tasty & service friendly.
Possibly one of the best Malaysian food that you can get in Melbourne. This is as authentic as you can get from a Malaysian restaurant in the CBD. Definitely worth a visit if you're looking for something that tastes close to real Malaysian satay, nasi lemak and roti canai. A little pricier than most Malaysian joints but definitely worth giving this a go.
Authentic food and very much a guilty pleasure.
The food is pretty much exactly what you'd want from an Asian canteen / casual restaurant that serves Malaysian food. The curry is somewhat mild and thin compared to other cuisines such as Indian or Japanese curries, which means that you definitely want rice to go with them. The meats were delicious and fresh, and I find that in general they are great value. I also tried the fish curry which was very generous in the portion of fish and I would say probably the best curry I've had at Mamak. Dessert cone is very interesting if you don't mind getting your hands a bit sticky.
Delightful experience in Melbourne CBD.
All the dishes were hot on arrival, the downside was the wait time for some dishes - Customers who ordered after us received the same dish first.
Overall, the spiciness of the chicken was up to standard, and the roti was fresh and crispy.
Would recommend this spot on a cold evening for dinner!
Such a great place !
Food is absolutely delicious, and always consistent. Been here a few times now, and never been disappointed.
The curries are perfect, so much flavour and spice.
The roti is amazing!
Being able to order from a QR-code and pay at the same time is a great new way of service.
Highly recommend this place
So tasty and authentic Malaysian cuisine!
Mee Goreng is my favourite. Their roti are all freshly made to order.
I have recommended this restaurant to a few friends and they all love it.
The smell, it was nice, and you know it's Asian. A frozen flower manager, great food and the Roti is heaven. If your looking for a Malaysian food, this is the place.
Great restaurant for your Malaysian fix.
The roti is buttery soft and crispy that goes so well with the curry dips. Highly recommend the slightly spicy curry dip as its the perfect level of spice to cut through the roti.
Also ordered the classic Nasi Lemak with an extra piece of chicken. The chicken was big for its size and delicious! Had to also get the green peas to balance out the meal which tasted great with a fresh crunch.
Will come again!
My husband and I are their regular customers, I like the Rotti there, they are so soft and chewy, the fish curry is a must-try dish, they have different yummy dishes with good price
