Really friendly space with excellent food great service and a real traditional concept of how to serve their customers. Tonight is the third night in a row this I've had dinner here. That should say it all in a place like Melbourne
Lovely atmosphere. Fantastic meal! We enjoyed every morsel! Thank you, the staff were very attentive, polite & gracious! Will come again soon.

I’ve been here multiple times and have never been disappointed. Food is always perfect, and ambience is great for date nights, casual enough for hangouts with friends but also quiet and classy enough for a business drink.
The Hiramasa Namerou is my absolute favourite. It’s this white fish sashimi served with rice crackers and it’s perfection. The wagyu beef is one of the best I’ve had in Melbourne. Also love the cocktails. If you’re a fan of matcha/green tea, then the Matcha San is sure to please!
Went for a friends wedding. Had a 6-7 course banquet, had a sashimi platter, fish, pork belly with soy broth, kaarage chicken, crab croquettes, beef takaki, maki sushi rolls, bowl of wedges, renkon chips and sweet potato fries and a bowl of edamame. Sashimi platter was super fresh, salmon was melt in the mouth, tuna was fatty and kingfish was fresh, fish dish was nice, had tofu with a broth, pork belly was good, kaarage chicken was ok, needed some salt, came with mayo and lemon but needed seasoning, crab croquettes tasted a bit burnt for my liking, the sauce that came with it was nice, beef takaki was nice, crispy outside with the jelly like beef, best dish out of all of them, maki rolls were nice and the others were good, overall an enjoyable night, service was excellent. Would recommend this place if you’re in South Wharf. Got parking discount from the restaurant as well.
Well priced and delicious food. Drinks came out fast but the earlier courses were about 20mins between each, the last ones came out a lot faster. It may have been a busy night or a once off but I’d definitely go back again
Got the feed me 6 course meal, the lychee daiquiri and Yuzu old fashion cocktails. Staff were super friendly, explained every dish in detail when serving, the outdoor seating environment was amazing on a nice night out 😊 will definitely go back again, highly recommend!

The reasons I would revisit @akachochinmelb: 1. Happy hour drinks of $6 beer and wine till 6:30pm 2. It’s located right outside DFO Southwharf and 3. $20 generous lunch deals.

💬 review: We took advantage of the 50% @theforkau deal to try this place. Loved the relaxing ambience and happy hour drinks! The standout dishes during our meal there were the salmon aburi (seared salmon sushis) and prawn tempura with curry mayo. The lightly seared salmon was perfectly done (love the slight Smokey taste) and the Japanese puff coated prawn tempuras were pretty divine. who would have thought that Japanese puffs would make a good tempura topping!
We sadly didn’t enjoy the tuna tataki which was recommended by the staff - the avocado cream did not do much to the overall dish. The lamb ribs were a bit oilier than usual, though I must say the lotus chips were yum. We ordered the dessert special of green tea panna cotta with matcha ice cream and I especially enjoyed the matcha ice cream.
With a 50% discount, the meal totalled $50 (this excludes dessert and drinks). Would come back for the lunch deals and drinks!

What a beautiful view along Southbank to have lunch on such a beautiful day. Seriously relaxing. We chose the lunch set menu yummy! We ate everything and had dessert 🍨 we will definitely be back
The best Japanese restaurant in Melbourne to eat Authentic Izakaya style Japanese. The sushi bar was a perfect place to sit and see the chef's skills while enjoying my fresh Sushi/Sashimi with a friendly service. Will be back for sure.
Very busy during the weekend. During the weekdays they offer lunch specials which is what I got, chose the grilled pork belly option which comes with rice, salad, miso soup and three slices of sashimi. Good value. I've been here a couple of times for drinks at night which has a slightly different atmosphere to lunch. Great cocktails and special deals on drinks too. Service is friendly and quick.
Akachochin at South wharf. Nice Japanese restaurant with good food and bar ambience. Love their food but service was very very slow. You can come in happy hour time and enjoy the drink before the dinner
Good service and great sushi.
The sushi was super fresh and because the weather was a little cold, we sat outside next to heater and were very comfortable. The ramen was okay, but I'd recommend sticking with the sushi and unagi if you visit.
Izakaya style restaurant along the river. They have a myriad of dishes to choose ranging from japas small plates to bigger main dishes. We tried the sake flight which is interesting and allow us to test different kinds of sake. The beef Carpaccio is a delight. Service is great although pricing is a little steep.

Such a versatile dining place in a perfect location, between the DFO South Wharf and the exhibition centre. Suitable for family with kids as well as for an individual visit.
The dining area is not that huge, but has both indoors and outdoors seating facing the river (heated during the winter). It has a great service includes friendly staffs.
About the food, it was delicious. I ordered lunch set menu, pork belly set and pork katsu which all were delicious snd came out in a perfect portion. The serving speed was quick and the price was decent. Glad to have this option at the area.
My 2nd visit with friends. Tried more dishes this time. Food look & taste great. Wagyu beef is a must try. Desserts was amazing. Great service. All of us enjoyed our lunch very much.
This is the best Japanese restaurant in Melbourne without breaking your bank! Cooked in traditional methods and presented in a modern way, the chefs & service staff love their work, care about customers & take the time to explain real Japanese food. If you think miso soup is a vegetarian dish, you don't know miso soup! They make the broth from scratch with bonito, it's the best I've ever had here! Awesome sake & cocktails, you must try Dassai Junmai Daiginjo & yuzushu. Unagi cucumber roll and chicken wing gyoza are delicious. I love chawanmushi & they took it to the next level, big bowl of freshly steamed deliciousness. If you want a simple meal, go for udon or unagi on rice, otherwise lunch set is great value for money! Lastly, can you imagine sweet potato creek brûlée? Go eat Akachochin :)
