Visited this place over the weekend. I've bought chocolates from here before, usually the Dark Chocolate Coated Macadamias, which are amazing. This time, I got the Belgian Hot Chocolate, definitely a must for chocolate lovers. The drink was really strong (in chocolate) and not very sweet. Loved the Chocolate Coated Orange Slice Praline as well. Willing to pay $2.5 just for this little piece of goodness.
Loved my coffee design, 1st September 2018
Newly introduced menu for hot/cold chocolate drink and flavoured teas. The Belgian hot chocolate drink which is a classic selection is now available in cold drink that is good too
They have definitely nailed it when it comes to hot chocolate. We really like the Belgian hot chocolate at Koko Black, the hazelnut and orange hot chocolate was so good. It was rich and creamy and is just perfect for a cold day. Be sure to check out their amazing ranges for desserts as well.
Hazelnut hot chocolate (R $7; L $10.50)

🍴Rich and tasty hot chocolate that provides the best warmth in the winter cold. There are different flavours from classic Belgium to chilli to our chosen hazelnut one. We really enjoyed the nutty aroma of the hazelnut. While the #hotchocolate was rich and thick, it was also smooth and not overpowering in a way that we would get sick of it. It was also just the right level of sweetness. But it is quite pricey so not something one can keep indulging in

Very friendly staff, and nice coffee. Would I say the best ever coffee I've had? Not sure!
Also, for those obsessed with latte art, here is not a place for you because we didn't get any art on none of our coffees.
They've got some attractive chocolates here that taste pretty good, but in my opinion somewhat expensive for regular consumption. It's a nice place to pick out a gift box of chocolate for someone though, or to buy one or two pieces as a bit of a treat for yourself. Layout is a bit cramped at this branch, being on busy Lygon street, but it does give a distinct vibe.
Attractively packaged and reasonably priced delectable chocolates is what I think of when I walk into any Koko Black.
They have the best iced coffee - strong espresso with creamy milk served with a dollop of their own vanilla ice cream. The combination is heavenly.
Chocolates and coffee....it's always a sunny day when I walk out of Koko Black.
The place not as cozy as place in Royal Arcade but the taste was similarly good. It easier to see chocolate and souvenir in front of the venue. Pollen can blow into your drink if you seat outside in the windy day.
I come here for good coffee and a no fuss way to pay because they don’t have minimum for pay pass payments. Awesome! Great service...........
Amazing, and I meant ah-may-zingggggggg hot chocolate 👏 They ran out of Aussie chocolate when I was there, but the Belgian selection more than made up for it. Thick, luscious hot chocolate, with your choice of milk. Serviced by friendly, patient and helpful staff members, really can't ask for more 👌
P.s. choose their outdoor seating, and enjoy all the curious balls of fluff walking by this busy stretch 🐾
A great place to enjoy good quality chocolate. Classic Hot chocolate is very rich in flavour. Chocolate Affogato is extremely delicious. Beautiful shop with plenty of seats to enjoy your food. Can also buy chocolates/ chocolate coated nuts there which is a good choice as souvenir. Price is not cheap though.
Koko Black should be on top of everyone's "want to go" lists. And if you have been here then I strongly recommend going again because this place is absolutely "loyalty" worthy.
I myself am a regular and whenever I go to Lygon Street, Koko Black is the first place to go, to start my night. I just can't get enough of their Belgian Hot Choclates (the hazelnut hot chocolate is probably the best one).
And to be completely honest, Koko Black is definetly a bit pricy. But if your on Lygon Street chances are you already knew you'd be spending a bit more on that date night then the usual.
Just saying, do your self a favour and give Koko Black a try.
FYI: the photos you see with this review contain images of the hazelnut hot chocolate and Mocha Hot Chocolate. 😉
Koko Black has an amazing selection of wonderful chocolates that goes so well with their delicious hot chocolates and coffees. You might be surprised to find quite a nice lunch menu not just lots of things with heaps of chocolate. There is a lovely spot on Lygon Street and the service from their staff is very good.
I loved the spiced hot chocolate here. One of the best hot chocolates I've had! The spice hits your throat but after a couple of sips you get addicted to it and then nothing is better!
The chocolates are amazing. I tried Belgian chocolate, Bailey's dark and hazelnut, loved them all!
Koko black is my go to destination everytime I need an uplifting drink and chocolates.
