Sir And Mlady Dine Out

Spanish is one of many go-to foods for us. We love visiting Spain and love their food there and anywhere else. On a short visit to Melbourne and after a light bite, Simply Spanish beckoned. They have several restaurants across Melbourne including this one off Bourke St. Some bread, some olive oil and vinegar and a glass of Sangria were a perfect start while looking at the menu in more detail. They have a good selection here but bites (or tapas) were the order of the day this time. The sangria was a tasty drop though and the bread helped get our appetites going.
It was my first time here and I went with my work crew. I must say I was so amaaaaaaaze by the quality of food. I’ve never had what I reckon was a great paella because there were always a problem or two with it. Usually it’s, the rice being too hard, lack flavour or the meat/seafood were not tender enough.
However, simply Spanish ticked every box for me! It really made me want a bigger serving by the end of the meal. No wonder they have won so many awards.
Our group all had the Spanish Lunch for $20, which came with a small serving of paella, croquette, salad and a choice of Sangaria of churros. Definitely was a steal! The deals do change as it indicates to ask staff for special of the day.
I really enjoyed seeing the massive pan of paella being cooked outside the restaurant and thought that was pretty awesome. I’m so happy, I have found a place to satisfied my paella cravings and will definitely be back.

Came on a Tuesday night quite early so we had our choice of seating, with indoors and outdoors having plenty of space.
My partner wasn't particularly hungry but I was, and it was recommended we get 3x tapas to share and 1x serve of paella. But maybe our stomachs are smaller than we thought because we were definitely stuffed by the end of the meal.
• Vegetarian paella featured eggplant, zucchini, chickpeas, tomatoes on saffron bomba rice. Flavour was great, though it was served in a metal dish so I was disappointed there was no crispy bottom. Though I'm wondering if the 2 people serve would have turned out differently.
✔Crumbed feta triangles: Delicious, served on pumpkin puree. Really glad we took the waitress' recommendation as it did not disappoint!
✔Pork belly: The reduction and chickpea puree were both really flavoutsome with a good balance of sweet and salty, but I wasn't really a fan of how chewy and yummy the pork fat was.
Wait staff were just lovely and ready with recommendations. Overall it was a great dinner and a wonderful atmosphere, though some elements of the dishes were not as good as others.
