We came after half time from the big AFLW match - we were lucky enough to get in to the match and wanted to miss the big crowd - great match BTW - look forward to this league going from strength to strength - the staff were effortless, welcoming and friendly - We decided on a mushroom pizza and cauliflower salad washed down with a pint of brewmanity ale and the house sevita sparking. At the end of the meal all I could say to the waitress tidying our dishes when she asked how we enjoyed it - all I could say - was -I am willing to be your dishpig to get the recipe for your cauliflower salad - and I am not a vego!!! We left a tip for the staff as a simple thankyou and look forward to another visit. Just as we were leaving the crowds started in again - the staff took it in their stride.
Beautiful place great food and wonderful staff especially the girl with the tattoo she is awesome. Great customer service. Would recommend to anyone.
We have been to the Kent many times over the last few years and have always enjoyed the experience. The food and service is first class but cannot believe that they charged us $2 for a small extra amount of parmesan. Will they start charging for salt and pepper? The meal and wine cost around $120 for 2 people and find this extra charge very petty.
I’ve always liked the Kent Hotel. I’ve spent many a happy hour here in years past. It’s a nice sophisticated pub. The food’s good. The drinks are good. Best of all, the hotel is in the gorgeous Rathdowne Village precinct. On a good day you could mistake this area for something close to paradise. The pub has this terrific outdoor area at the front. It’s heaven there sometimes particularly on a mild sunny day or a balmy evening. It was the former today as I sat there in the sunshine nursing my drink and watching the world pass in the tepid June sun. I’d been upsold by the barman but swiftly concluded that this was demonstrably a first world problem. I shelled out the cash with more admiration than resentment. I did wonder where the chap learned the technique, though. Probably started at McDonalds as a kid, I concluded. 😳
We celebrated a family birthday lunch with 28 guests. The staff were a pleasure to deal with, easy going and nothing was too much trouble.
On the day the food was fresh and delicious with generous portions. Again the staff were amazing, kind, happy and relaxed. Service was 10/10- even when we got in their way! Would happily recommend.
I have had dinner here many times with a friend who lives in Carlton. The Kent has always served good food and coupled with great atmosphere is always a top choice for us. Last night we had dinner there with a new menu which surpassed the previous great offerings. We ordered the roast chicken with preserved lemon to share and it was wonderful along with the olive oil mash. This was followed on by some beautiful profiteroles.
We look forward to sampling the menu further. Service was excellent as usual.

Great dinner at Kent Hotel tonight. Atmosphere is fabulous and the staff were just so lovely and attentive without being in your face. Ordering my gin and tonic was in itself an experience and the blood orange segment made it perfect.
Caesar salad was fresh and good portion size. Bonus was the playlist gently humming in there background was perfect.
Not too noisy as it filled up. Looking forward to coming back in the warmer months when no doubt the doors/windows are opened up and a street dining experience begins.
Wheelchair friendly. Kid friendly. Good parking.
Warm, busy hotel with higher than standard pub food. It’s really loud and can be difficult to hear. The service was a bit hit and miss - we always had to flag someone down to order however the quality of food made up for the average service. Good spacing of time between entrees and mains. $240 for four people including 2 alcoholic drinks.
The Kent Hotel is not your regular pub, it offers delicious food. I had pan fried gnocchi, spring beans in sage butter. Service was friendly & attentive.
Bright open hotel which was a joy to visit on a beautiful Melbourne spring day. Friendly staff. I had a wonderful gnocchi with garden greens and it was superb. The only criticism is that we had a large group of people and the wooden floors made the sound bounce around and at times you had to shout to the person sitting opposite you to be heard.
I've come here many times now and the food is great! The chefs are truly skilled no matter what they cook up.
I've had their many variations of their gnocchi and they are all tasty, the eggplant chips were amazing (I don't think it's on the menu anymore), and the pizza is the best I've had.
Last night I attended a 40th birthday in the function room at the Kent Hotel. We were on a two course semi set menu ($40 pp) which was adjusted slightly given our large numbers. There is also the option for a three course menu at $50pp. Two courses involved a variety of shared entrees and individually selected mains. The entrees on our table consisted of vegetarian antipasto, arancini balls and grilled haloumi with sweet potato hummus. I'm glad I'm not a vegetarian as I did not care for the pickled and marinated vegetables on the vegetarian board. Good cheddar though, but I didn't enjoy the quince paste.
The function room had quite a nice atmosphere and it's own bar. The bar however was cash only which presented a problem for a few people given its pretty old school to carry cash these days. No issue for me however as I was on the waters #dietlife.
The restaurant itself was located downstairs and had a warm ambiance. The staff were also very accommodating to my dietary needs.
I really enjoyed my porterhouse main it was a beautiful piece of meat cooked perfectly. The red wine jus was very sparse on the plate though so I requested some aioli as I needed some sauce. Unfortunately the aioli was a bit bland. Good location on Rathdowne easily accessible by public transport and adequate parking available. Not a bad little pub
Clean and nicely appointed. Friendly staff who care about their clients.
Nice selection of food. All ordered items were tasty.
Loved this outdoor dining Sunday lunch with good company. Friendly staff and great food.
We have family friends who rave about this place. I've been longing to visit the great Aussie pub since Covid (given that I live in the US) and am here visiting for the week.
The Kent is a cracker of a place. Service is excellent, what a great location on the corner and the atmosphere is friendly and relaxed. More importantly the food punches well above its weight. I had the fish and chips (rockling was excellent), my Dad had this amazing Cavatelli pasta in a wagyu and pork bolognese sauce (this was amazing) and Mum had the scallops.
The Kent represents the best of what a Melbourne pub can and should be. Not pretentious, excellent food and service with a smile. This is why I miss Australia!
Very good, if uneven, food let down by a total lack of atmosphere. The Kent is reliable and fine. I just wish they would try and offer some character. Maybe a live music act or art on the walls or maybe even turn down the bright house lights and turn up barely heard music from the speakers - anything to add some ambience.
Otherwise, yeah, fine.
The Kent Hotel offers amazing Modern Australian pub fare with a sophisticated touch, so not your regular kind! They are also a sister restaurant to the Plough Hotel in Footscray. The place was buzzing on a Sunday night with every table booked out, I see this as a sign of good food. The service is attentive and thoughtful, the specials were read out to us and our courses arranged and timed perfectly. The pasta had so much flavour and was easily mopped up with some complimentary bread. The pizza was sensational, a 10/10 in terms of dough and flavour. The steak was perfectly cooked and paired with a delicious serve of seasonal greens. I was especially impressed by the eggplant chips which are usually hard to nail, but they did - crispy, light and not at all soggy! Not to mention the generous portion size.
They have an extensive drinks list, with many local and international options. I enjoyed a great Italian Pinot Grigio.
This dining experience was a gifted invite, however they agreed to having me come in without advising them of when, so every part of my experience was authentic. I wouldn’t hesitate twice recommending this restaurant.

Great hotel and lovely food as always (we were there for "Steak Night" this week!) I would be happier if the staff wore masks though...
