First time eating. Booked the bistro thinking it would be quiet, but on Saturday night! Staff were great, suggesting we go upstairs to level 1 - much more family-friendly. Food was great. Huge portion sizes. Great online ordering option of removing certain things, like chips, salad etc, so the meal isn't too big. Smart thinking. Ok prices, good range of drinks.

Great venue with good food, a great range of drinks and fast and friendly service. Easy online ordering with the great option of reducing portion amounts, like no chips, or no salad, etc. Great to avoid wastage of over-ordering. Gets really busy and loud on weekends. We went to level 1 - more family friendly.

Lively place to stop at after footy.
Went to the rooftop bar, had the heaters on inside for those who feel the cold.
Had the Parma and fish and chips, very tasty!
The Comedy Festival was on, so place was buzzing. Plenty of staff, will definitely be back.
Leigh McCombe
The European Bier Cafe was a welcoming place with a warm atmosphere. Staff were friendly and helpful, giving us a heads-up before our comedy show. Thanks team for an all round great night.
Bernard Cunningham
Did well wrangling hundreds of comedy festival patrons on a busy Thursday night. Food was simple but good. Only downside was being seated directly behind a huge pillar in the second row. Right at the front but could only see white tiles. Weird.

Kind ethical and deeply decent people. Thank you for the below comment. There’s a way for businesses to handle customers, and the feedback they give them. The way your business handled it was exemplary. I’m going to come and try the corn ribs, I wasn’t quite hungry enough for that last time.

This is the first time I've been here, and decided to eat here inbetween theatre performances at the Princess Theatre. I have to say I was really impressed with how this venue operates! You order & pay at the table with a QR code which made thongs very easy and we didn't feel rushed at all. The service was quick & very friendly! I highly recommend this bar and it's now on my list of favourite places 😃🤩
Leanne Mountney
The food was very good. Pricing is average for a meal. The staff were friendly and helpful. We sat in rooftop and even though it was raining outside we were dry and toasty.

This is a great restaurant when you want a good hearty pub meal. They offer a range of pizzas, and your standard pub fare - chicken parmigiana, burgers, and steaks. You can order and pay for your food via the qr code that you can scan from the table so it's really convenient. I ordered the lamb couscous salad. It was really tasty and quite delicious. I do think they need to renovate, the restaurant looks tired and dated, and they definitely need to renovate the bathroom. So it's a great place for good food, just needs a makeover.

I have suspected that my previous Zomato reviews have been deleted for some time now, despite repeated assurances from Zomato that was not the case. So it was interesting to learn recently that other Zomato reviewers have had similar experiences, with their previous reviews being deleted.<br/><br/>So whilst I did an updated recent review of the European Bier Cafe, it appears to have been deleted. <br/><br/>So I went back to the European Bier Cafe for another beer and this place still hits the mark. <br/><br/>The service is efficient, the beer selection great and the prices reasonable. <br/><br/>I hope this review is not deleted. This place in the city is definitely worth a visit.<br/><br/><br/>September 2018<br/>I haven’t been here for a while so I decided to call into this place and have a beer, given that it’s beer o’clock haha. This place has a really good range of European beers not surprisingly, such as Belgian, German, Italian and Chez. Happy days.<br/><br/>Between 5-9pm weekdays there is Happy Hour which means $10 pints which is good considering the beers are imported. It’s a comfortable space downstairs, but I was hoping to see their rooftop bar but there’s a function on today so that’ll have to wait till next time. All that’s missing is Eurovision on the tele lol

Recently had the opportunity to try the new menu from European Bier Cafe and we have to say we are loving it.<br/><br/>We had the good fortune of having the pork belly roast of the day - sadly every day is different so it's luck of the draw - and it was amazing. Couldn't fault it.<br/><br/>Not to mention everything else we ate and drank were amazing.<br/><br/>If you find yourself looking for a bite to eat that won't break the bank and for any occasion, lunch or dinner. <br/><br/>You won't be disappointed with their new menu!

A classic establishment for those who works this financial district area. A comfy pub with hearty pub food and well priced drinks and specials! Can’t complain really!
Some Bunee Loves Food
Came here for a group lunch and got the steak with garlic butter. Waited for a long while for food, maybe like 30 minutes during the rush hour.<br/><br/>The steak was ok, average and was a bit chewy.
Foodz0r
Close to my office and there’s nothing better than a steak for lunch. Euro bier cafe has a special on Tuesday’s for steaks ($17). Not the cheapest, but good price for a steak. <br/><br/>I ordered the porterhouse steak with pepper gravy. I asked for medium and that’s what I got. Steak had a nice char from the grill, was juicy and came out relatively quickly. Gravy was as expected so neither here or there and the chips was pretty good too, crispy and fluffy inside.<br/><br/>Overall, I give it 3 stars. I enjoyed my steak but there were a few chewy bits. Overall a good lunch had.

Lived up to its name ... Bier Cafe ... 8/10 Drinks specialist; beers, good range of wines ... food wise, just okay ... standard pub style food ... quantity over quality 5/10 $30-33.00 steak with chips and salads. JT-19/04/2019.

Came in without much expectation due to previous zomato reviews but the food was delicious and the service was fantastic. We were served by Mitch who was lovely. Garlic pizza had a lot of cheese and made fresh from scratch right then and there. Calamari was tender and parmaa had a light crunchy batter. Love the range of drinks available. Would definitely come back for the food!

I've been making a pilgrimage here at least once a year ever since they have been in the entertainment book (ie 15+ years). I find their food is yummy but not standout. The voucher helps reduce the food bill so I have more to spend on the extensive range of beers of which they will more often than not have something continental on special. On more than one occasion I've tried to get through as many varieties of beer from the bottled beer menu as possible but sadly never have come close to this feat. Tonight I called in for a quick ale before meeting friends elsewhere. It was relatively quiet apart from suit types. I enjoyed a hoogarden for the first time in ages. <br/>

If I could give this place a half star I would. We celebrated St. Patrick's Day here many times in the past and they usually had Irish music playing with the pub decked out to celebrate the day. Not anymore !! There was a table of seven and all of us thought the food was rubbish. Chicken Parma pre cooked and reheated. No flavour. Steak with horrible burnt taste and again no flavour. It's just disgraceful that places like this advertise that they offer quality pub food. Never again !!
Sunny
Great atmosphere generous serving awesome taste the lamb shank had beautiful flavour.Zaily was the girl who served very polite and welcoming.Highly recommend

Came in to grab a bite after work on Wednesday, pretty good value. got a parma and a pint for around $25. The parma was decently sized and did the job and quite a few different beers to chose. Will definitely drop by for another pint
Saza_Lives_To_Eat
This place was 40% off on eat club so decided to try it out. It was okay. Even with the discount it wasn’t really worth it. I’d be even more annoyed paying full price for this quality of food. Steak came out blue even though we ordered medium rare but the chef cooked it again but still wasn’t good. The chicken parmigiana tasted fake and pre made. Service was good however food quality was not. If I came back it would be only for fries and drinks.
ToFeedTwo
This place is super cool to pop into for a drink with a big group or of course a nice pub style dinner. We came here on a Tuesday night before a concert and the vibe was high with workers (like ourselves) just needing to let loose.<br/><br/>What we ordered:<br/>Onion rings <br/>The Greek Pizza<br/>Steak Special (the selected Tuesday night special) <br/><br/>The Greek Pizza was definitely a good choice! It was basically a Greek Salad on a Pizza base. Winning when you’re having a salad and pizza in one. The steak special was a delight. We asked for it to be very well done and had a giggle when on the order screen it came up as ‘steak: cremated’. Exactly how we wanted it and exactly how we got it!
Juhi- Culture And Cuisine
The food, staff, ambiance, was all great till my beer had the most feral looking something in it. Still unsure what it was about I can promiseyou it wasn't suppose to be there.<br/><br/>This made me question the hygiene levels of this place and I haven't been back since!
Kate Price
Expected it to be busier when we visited after seeing a musical at the theatre down the road. Was quiet and service was quick. Cocktails and food were delicious however there were 2 versions of menu and one listed additional ingredients we wouldn’t have gotten in our meals. Not a huge issue, we just left them.
Bear Noms
Came here for a birthday a while ago. Great place to hang out and enjoy a few drinks. We got the pizzas which were a tasty treat. Nice view from the top.
Steve Levon
So without being rude I wouldn't recommend this place. We were takin here after a workshop and the food was all deep fried and whatever wasn't had no flavour. Additionally I ordered 3 cocktails, all of which I sipped and left behind drinking only a few mouthfuls. Anyway it's probably known for its beer or something but suffice to say it's not for me.
Zander Peel
Great selection of both European and local beers. They also have a wide range of local spirits. Also a lot of great deals. Half price tap beer on mondays and super member lunch deal.
Huey Tran
They have a lunchtime special where if you are a member reduces a $25 parma to $11 as long as you order before a certain time. On most occasion they will ask you if you are a member to apply the discount (which makes sense because if someone is not a member you would want to know and encourage them to be one). I was second up after a friend to order where my friend had already gotten a discount because he was a member, chatting to a friend the guy at the register simply said $25 tap at the side to pay. I had on reflex done this but then stated that I was actually a member could they reverse to allow me to get the discount price. Simply told by this guy it was too late and to move on. Surely there was something that could have been done? At least offer something to make the customer feel better?? I can easily see that he was trying to get through the lunch time rush and going out of his way was not what he felt the need to do.<br/><br/>The parma is hardly worth $25 and the discount is the reason I come at lunch and to get a pint along with it.<br/><br/>You will not see me at the Euro anymore. Plenty of places in Melb that offer pud deals - service is key!
Nay Nay
A great bar for casual Friday night drinks. Great vibes and even better specials. I was impressed with the staff so well dressed and great service.
Yee Kee Ku
Offers a good range of European beer that are rare by Australian standards. Cosy place and having 3 levels of sitting area do help. Lovely ambience
Lynda
Designated driver, ordered a glass of sparkling water from their hose.... charged me $6.50... Ridiculous!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Archie Olsen
Went for lunch after a recommendation from a relative. Staff seemed very young and unable to smile or poor a beer and the food was well below par
~Happy Neko~
Came with high expectations as my colleagues have recommended me few times, but I don't usually eat at pubs so my expectations might be too high... Good place for after work drink but not suitable for picky eaters...
Good Food Lover
Nice place, good atmosphere and friendly service but I went to this place thinking I was going to get a pub portion of food but received a gourmet portion of pub food, the food was ok but not enough for the price, I would recommend this place for those who want to go have a few drinks with friends but if you are looking for a place to eat, go else where, if you are hungry.
Suraksha Mattoo
Came here just after our license verification across the street. Beautiful ambience and cosy cafe with good volume of music perfect for day out alone or with friends. We ordered fish and chips and schnitzel. This was sufficient for 3 of us.<br/>Do visit for a chilled out time.
Good Food Good Mood
Popped in here for drinks for a friends birthday and while it’s not particularly my scene it had a pretty festive atmosphere of a Saturday night. Was definitely popular with the males of the group for their extensive range of beers as the name suggests. Handy location and pub style fare makes it a people pleaser well worth checking out
MELB JOURNAL
The top level of the European Bier Cafe is quite lovely in the warmer months. The bar can get congested, meaning you’ll be waiting for you drink. Pizza’s are okay but nothing special. Not a bad place for casual drinks with friends.
Food For The Soul
What a joke, came here ordered a burger it was 1 out of 5, left 3/4 of it on my plate... the waitress comes over does not ask if it was ok, just asks me if I was done and takes it away. Talk about caring about the product you sell. Never go back very disappointed... if someone leave food unfinished ask at a minimum if it is ok and offer a refund if the quality is crap....
Sauv Blanc
Went to the rooftop to watch the tennis game, over dinner. Steak meal was okay, generous serving. Friend had calamari and pita entree which was super sized. Cocktails were good. Friendly and helpful staff. Good how they have multiple tvs, with plenty of table space.
Madeline Agnes
Fairly disappointing. I was expecting a bit more however, there's nothing really special about the atmosphere, drinks, food or music. The service was good I guess? To conclude, not great, not bad.
Grant Bacon
Ordered a steak medium, came out very well done. When I returned it the friendly waiter said they would give me a full refund (i didn't request this, just advised them that the steak was very well done), 5 minutes later the barman came over to my table to say that he's shown the chef the steak and the chef believes it's medium and therefore they wouldn't be refunding me. <br/><br/>An absolute joke of customer service, literally the barman standing at my table arguing that the chef thought the steak was in fact medium. Not a great experience
Coco
Great value lunch meals are available at the European Bier Cafe. My favourites are Tuesday's steak special and Wednesday's Parma special. For $15 you get steak or chicken Parma with chips and salad. Big servings and lovely ambiance. Try seating at the spacious rooftop bar as well. Service was great and staffs were friendly. It's one of my favourite lunch out places.
FoodFanatic
Food is standard pub meal. Not great value for lunch time. Selection of beers for after work though is good- nice location, nice roof top too
The Gastronaut
Great place for large events. This place can host relatively large crowd of guests. It has multiple levels with access to many features. Service is friendly too.
Sophie Stephens
Drinks are good and well priced but ordered the deep fried cauliflower, which sounded lovely on the menu turned out to be really really bad.
Mustard
Having been here several times during the past few years, the place continuously dishes out decent pub meals. Some items are pricey for the quality you get so don't have any high expectations. Burger was okay, wasn't as juicy as I had hoped and I prefer my burger buns pillowy.<br/>It's a spacious multilevel building with an open rooftop, great for after work drinks and nibbles.
Luke Purcell
We went during rush hour but service and food was quick. No one complained about the meals and I take that as a good thing. Price wise they seemed pretty decent. I will say however the price for a beer was a little expensive.
MGM
Average. Not in a good way. I ordered the veg lasagne - basically tomato sauce with layered pasta and veg, minimal flavour - I make better at home. Requested no dressing on the salad, the plate arrived with balsamic drizzled everywhere. Cocktails so-so, again I think I do better at home! Why go out and pay someone when you can eat / drink better at home.... Also, random old school house music pumping during dinner...
Geoff F
Was there yesterday(9/Jun/17) in a large group watching a game. <br/>After being there for over 3 hours (drinking and eating while watching the game), staff started removing tables and even pushed a table onto a lady of our group in a rude way (and without apologies).<br/>The group left and only 5-6 of us were still there for extra 5 min wondering to stay a bit more. Then we were asked to pay an entry fee if we wanted to stay further (in an arrogant way - not even a thank you for being there so long).<br/>Very very impolite. Not welcoming at all. Will not be back.

I took my team to this place for a meal at the European Bier Cafe. I had booked a table however they had no record. We were sent to the top floor which is one of those hybrid inside outside affairs where people feel (and this place allows) it's ok to smoke while people eat - how this gets through regulation I don't know. <br/><br/>We started with 8 or so plates of tapas. Grossly expensive for what you get. The aranchini was clearly frozen, the melon and prosciutto dry and old, the skewers so so and the calamari was ok but for $13, I would have expected more than a couple of slivers. <br/><br/>I ordered the Burger - tasteless, stale bun, cold and the quality of the meat was something I would not feed my dog if I had one. All this for $23! My colleagues had other dishes ranging from the steak to salmon and pastas - no one thought theirs was particularly appealing and most of their dishes were towards the $30 mark. This price I might add is where you order your meals at the bar and receive kfs wrapped in a napkin. <br/><br/>Those who have read my posts know that I very rarely, if ever negative but this place just simply takes people for granted. <br/><br/>Until they announce a new chef and management or that they will pick up their game - don't bother eating here, there are so many better places who want and strive for your custom.
Brungiel
This place is really outdated and tired. Beers are ok, but there is nothing really that stands out as being special. Food is average, there are much more interesting bars throughout the city.
Andrew Turner
I met up with some former colleagues at the European Bier Cafe as it was a convenient a location for us all. We found ourselves a booth table ordered at the bar and then had a bit of a wait before the food started arriving. My Margherita pizza was the first meal to turn up.
MelbfoodCritic
Wide selection of European beer on tap. Staff friendly & usually good service. I like the European ambiance it has & place fairly clean. Drinks & food can be a bit pricy for pub food but value when it's on special. Mediocre pub food. Stick with Pizzas & chips! Crowd who goes there pretty decent as well. Lot of office workers or older crowd. Nice place to watch sports or when they has party nights. Upstairs has a big screen. Overall I would rate 3.6*
Blueberrypie
Walking past after work today a bucket of water was poured over the side and drenched me completely. It is so inconsiderate and utterly unacceptable! The workers at this establishment need to be reviewed!
Havachatkiwi
Great scotch fillet steaks with mash and veggies cooked to perfection. Service was also good too. Have been several times but not of late. Never had a bad meal.
Ashanie Mekhala Perera
European Bier Café is a multi-levelled monstrosity that serves a range of (you guessed it) beers, with the usual pub-esque menu offerings. Pubs aren’t generally my thing, but I have visited a few on occasion. I stopped in here as part of a group of 8 people because it was the best bet for getting a table without having to wait on a Saturday night with no reservation.
Jumping Jack
Food was hideous (pizza and nachos) and way overpriced. How you can fail to deliver on basic food but charge 5 star prices is beyond me. Maybe I should open my own bar?
James Warfe
Very very disappointing.<br/><br/>We went to this venue today for an organised work Christmas lunch for about 50 people.<br/>The food was two hours late, poor quality, and definitely not value for the money we paid. <br/><br/>I've also been for a drink on a few occasions and found it overpriced and uninspiring. <br/><br/>Avoid.
Karl Muller
I just had a really awful lunch here. <br/>I ordered a burger and small chips, but was not told that the burger already comes with chips (nor is it written on the menu), so there was too much. <br/>I waited almost an hour for my meal, while others at my table had already been served and finished their meals. <br/>When it arrived, it was a cold, dry, overcooked burger on a stale bun - the chips were ok.<br/>I also had lunch here about 6 months ago, and had tough overcooked steak, even though I'd ordered it rare.
JBigs
I'd give this place a miss. Came here with a group. We each ordered something different, not one person enjoyed their meal. I had the seafood linguine which was flavorless. I had 1 tiny piece of chili, the seafood was non existent, and I tasted no garlic. It was basically a big bowl of plain pasta. Friend said the Parma was dry and just slightly warm.
Hailey
Service was fairly quick and the vege lasagne was delicious but a very small portion, I was still hungry. Most of my plate was just lettuce.
Micky
Dont normally review parmas, but this place has one of the best parmas going aorund. $26.00, a bit pricey but well worth it. Thick chicken fillet (decent size), with thick panko crust, tasty cheese. Cooks extra crispy. Well worth the visit.
Laura
Very disappointing. We booked a table for out group and were seated upstairs. It was really cold and I asked three times if they could turn the heater on. When they finally came over the heater was broken. When meals were brought out they got mixed up who ordered what and had to go back to the kitchen a few times. I ordered the parma and there were parts of the chicken that could not be cut (grilled too much I think) and it was coated in WAY to much cheese. Other meals at the table had uncooked rice and burnt spinach to name a few. Will not be returning for meals.
Chardos
Had the pizza margherita<br/>Fresh out of the heater<br/>Tasted pretty good<br/>Cos it was fired over wood<br/><br/>If I come back for some pasta<br/>I want it brought out faster<br/>Waited 40 minutes<br/>Slowest restaurant you would win it<br/>

If your looking for a rooftop bar/beer garden with relaxed vibe, this is it. Sunday 4:30pm - a few groups of people, quiet & laid back. When we left, downstairs bar was packed with a much older crowd. Looks can be deceiving though, head up to the roof & it's perfect. <br/><br/>Cocktails delicious - especially 'A Girls Best Friend'. Bartender stood out - when I asked for a request he said he couldn't do it, 10 mins later I relieved it, free of charge. Nice gesture - set the scene for the rest of the evening. <br/><br/>Staff
Shock Nwave
I've come to this place three times lately and I like the beer range especially the Belgian ones and even though they didn't have the peach beer the last time around at least they had the raspberry one when it comes to dessert beers. When it comes to food, I highly recommend the onion rings because they're way better than the greasy crap served up at Hungry Jacks. I also recommend the salmon steak but understand it's more about the quality on your plate than the quantity and so take note of the extras that come with it such as the salad, kipfler potatoes and mixed rice all for about $30. All up this is beer heaven and try to check out the rooftop section and the staff is attentive.
Vivek Shah
Long wait (~50 min) for a spinach pizza. When it came out, crust was raw and not cooked enough. This place used to be better. All others on the table had similar issues
Matt
Should be avoided unless in dire need. Steak night on Tuesdays is a massive disappointment. Understandable that steak nights usual mean that you'll be getting some weird cuts of meat, but here it means the poorest quality they could possibly source from Vic market. Bland and over cooked. Surprisingly ice cold upon arrival to the table. Not a place I would suggest, but if you want to live life on the edge then go for glory.
Sam
Came to Tuesday night steak night. Full of hope but massively let down. 1/10 worst steak I have had in years. Despite the special it is an absolute disgrace what was served up. Completely unsatisfied.
Theknifeandforktalk
Ordered the Parma and it was amazing with great quantity of toppings. Beers on tap were great and staff were friendly. Theknifeandforktalk

Came here for dinner on a Saturday night and it was nowhere near as busy as I expected it to be. We sat downstairs and ordered some drinks and dinner. Not a very exciting menu if you want a decent meal (not pizza or tapas). Food was okay, it was a bit weird that the calamari had bread in the salad.<br/>Good variety of beers, but disappointed in the cider range... Also the staff member that served us was a bad pour, not what you'd expect here. They didn't have the wines we wanted as well which was annoying. Not much of an atmosphere downstairs, but upstairs is probably better for that.
Jay Contor
We went here on a quiet Thursday arvo and it was pleasurable without being overly amazing. We had the woodfire pizzas which were tasty, but it wasn't filling enough for the price you pay. The place has an "upmarket counter meal" type feel to it, but it's definitely not the worst place in town! Good chips too..
Andrew Staunton
Paella was poorly reheated, watery, frozen microwave meal. Lasagne was tiny and tasted okay. But incredibly overpriced, extremely disappointed, will never go again. Certainly not the place for meals.
Cihan
This place is genuinely shocking. My friends took me here for my birthday thinking it would be a nice classy joint, it was terrible. We all ordered separately with this one guy at the bar and he was so rude! He asked one of my girlfriends if she wanted a receipt, she misheard him and replied and he stared at her and very rudely said A RECEIPT do you want one, she was so embarrassed. On top of that all the food came seperately there was something like a 15-30 minute wait between our first and second meals by the time our last meal came we'd been waiting close to an hour. the food was crap, salmon dry, fish gross, parma shocking (HOW DOES THAT EVEN HAPPEN ITS A PARMA :( ) Then to top things off like a rude little cherry, a waitress saying nothing at all placed a sign on our table, we thought it was a dessert menu, to our shock it was a sign that was telling us to vacate the table within the next 15 mins. We were genuinely horrified. The only thing good that came out of this was that we know never to go back.
KEN
Fantastic atmosphere. The food was decent and I like the beer selection. I've been here several times and enjoyed each and every one of them
Ashton Buijs
Terrible experience!!!<br/>Went with 6 people and our meals all came out at different times! :(<br/>Not only that we waited for almost an hour to get our food!!!<br/>Then on top of that we had a 30 minute wait between the first 2 and then second 2 meals!!! By that time the rest of the food came out the first meals were cold!!! The salmon was dry and the other elements of the food burnt. As soon as we finished mains we were pushed out very rudely to make room for other customers. Service wasn't great either staff were rude and pushy <br/>The pizza was okay but the overall experience was far from good
Cherise
Went here for lunch on Monday. Had a special of Pizza and glass of house wine, beer or soft drink for $12. <br/>Had the spinach, ricotta and tomato pizza and was really tasty. Good lunch serving size, although probably wouldn't fill someone wanting to satisfy an appetite. Would be back!
Kate
While I have been to this place many times, I am still very confused as to why they have pizzas advertised at $9.00 but charge you $10.00 for? Would overlook this if it was just me, but it was the whole group. Food is fairly tasty though.
Sammi C
Ate at the rooftop bar for lunch on a Wednesday. Ordered a pizza - bad decision. The pizza was tiny, thin and the ingredients not fresh. They also forgot my order, which meant that my friends had pretty much finished their meals before I got mine. A couple of friends ordered the chicken parma, which was on special on Wednesday for $13. It was a substantial piece of chicken and definitely value for money, unlike the pizza. Seeems like a good place for after work drinks with mates, but food was a let down.
Laura Bath
Been to the European Bier Cafe a couple of times and the first thing that needs to be said is they have a great selection of beers - the types of which vary between floors. It's a really lovely place with a warm atmosphere downstairs and a refreshing, open area on the top floor. Belgian beer prices are not unreasonable for Melbourne. There's a nice range of tapas but the serving sizes could be increased a little - that's the only area where I have felt that I haven't had value for money. The meals are pretty good in general, but the gourmet toasted sandwich today was hardly gourmet - I would have expected sourdough or something vaguely fancy instead of simply seeded, sliced bread. There was also very little substance, especially when it came to the meat. The staff were excellent though, apologising for the delay (presumably the usual Friday lunch rush) and to be honest the sandwich is really the only bad experience I've had there.
Rishabh Shukla
With multiple levels of seating, it gives you lots of options to enjoy, and the live music adds to it!<br/>My preference is the rooftop bar because of its obvious reasons.<br/>Food is average and beer availability is also not as exhaustive as the menu says. I would have definitely loved more if I could have had all the beers that I wanted!
Tessa Peach
Really nice setting, especially the rooftop. It's really pricey, although the range of beers is pretty impressive and my beer-loving friends were having a great time trying new selections. Wasn't too keen on the other patrons though, bunch of thrity-somethings trying to hit on every girl in sight - probably didn't help my experience here. Although the view from the rooftop bar is just fantastic.
FoodieMan
Horrible service!!! Never order food here, took us an hour to get our pizzaz. This is the last time we came here. Staff seems to not give a hoot.
Unckieherb
Do yourself a favour and stay away. The only thing more appalling than the food is the shockingly rude service. In fact, incompetent and aggressive is a better way of describing their staff. How is this place in business?
Cat Douglas
Went here for my work Christmas party (an environmental company) - we have a high portion of vegan and vegetarian colleagues as you would expect for such a company. After being told the venue would cater for all requirements and it would be marked what came out was 95% meat and dairy. To have a meat buffet at an environmental company's event is disgusting. Will never ever go here again, This is Melbourne, Vegan capital of Australia. There is delicious, cruelty free everywhere (apart from this bar it seems). Very disappointing for Melbourne.
VegieGirl
A group of 16 of us came here for a Christmas work lunch which had been booked the month prior. We were placed on a table that was much too small for 16 people, and told that the table they were going to sit us at "should have left by now". We all ordered our food at the bar and paid separately. One member of our group received his food 10 minutes after ordering, but was being polite and waiting for everyone else's food to arrive before eating. At the 15 minute mark, no one else's meals had arrived, and his meal was now cold. Concerned, we spoke to a staff member who explained that because he was served by her, his order went down to the kitchen first, even though he was the last of the group to order. That's not a valid explanation and anyone with common sense would realise we're all from the same group and that we would probably all want our food brought out at the same time. She didn't offer to bring him a fresh meal with everyone else's, which didn't arrive for another 15 minutes. When the food started arriving, there were about 4 dishes that arrived that had not been ordered and people had to wait even longer whilst the kitchen rectified their errors. Most of the food that arrived was cold. My risotto was revolting, I took a mouthful and deemed it to be inedible as did my colleague. When the waitress collected my meal, she asked what was wrong, I said it was served cold and was tasteless, to which she told me to speak to the manager, at which point I suggested perhaps she should be the one speaking to the manager. She never came back, my complaint fell on deaf ears. The waitress rolling her eyes as she was bringing out food that no one from our table had ordered wasn't particularly fun to watch either. Awful food, terrible service, I won't be coming back.

Came here for drinks last Saturday with a few mates. We went there at happy hour but their happy hour drinks are limited and everything else is quite expensive. While having drinks, I ended up ordering some chicken skewers that were $11 and I was expecting something reasonable in size. However, I ended being disappointed due to the minature size of the served skewers (attached photo). The place itself wasn't too bad, but just felt like everything was over priced. Not too sure if I'll be back there again.

I have now been several times for lunch during the working week. I have tried the steak special and the parma special, on a tuesday and wednesday respectively. Neither of these have failed me. Steak has been cooked to my liking and the parma is so big, I haven't been able to finish it. The parma was thick and juicy, in the good way!!

The first few levels have a classic, dark wood european pub feel and if you go all the way to the top it's a nice surprise with a beautiful rooftop bar. I've been quite a few times and would highly recommend the pizzas - they are awesome. Also the tapas (my favourite are the fried olives). Staff are friendly and know their regulars which is nice. Awesome place where I've had lots of good times.

I will never eat here again. We felt like a good steak and went here for one because of the mid week special. Special was porterhouse chips and salad. Before we paid we asked if it was ok to get Veg instead of the chips the girl went and asked the kitchen and they said yes so we ordered two porterhouse with veg and salad, one with mushroom sauce med-rare the other with mustard medium.<br/>When the food arrived one came with chips and 'salad' the other with just 'salad' (i'll let you know why i put 'salad' like this) and the steak cooked with the sauces the wrong way around. When we said this was all wrong the girl got frustrated and walked back to the kitchen. She then came back 5 mins later both with just 'salad' and we said we ordered veg and salad, she proceeded to TELL us we just ordered veg not veg and salad (because the customer is always wrong right?).. we looked at our plate confused as to where the veg was because there was no veg on there, there was salad. Then proceeded to tell us that their 'Veg' consists of cut up onion tomato and cucumber. Then to top it off my steak had pepper sauce not mushroom, and the girl was that frustrated because clearly she got the order completely wrong and didn't want our plates going back to be spat on. <br/>Also ordered the same for my partner, his actually came with mushroom sauce but chips and 'salad' <br/>The steak was terribly dry and chewy and a poor excuse for a steak night. I guess we all learnt a lesson from that, and not to go out for cheap steak nights!

I went to the European Bier Cafe for Paint the Nite a few weeks ago. <br/>It was in the downstairs function room. I was able to order dinner and drinks while I painted. I ordered a vegetarian pizza which was cooked in the wood fire ovens downstairs were the event was being held. Really yummy.<br/>I went by myself as I love painting and art, but the artists encouraged everyone to be social, so I ended up making friends with the group next to me. <br/>All the participants were so friendly and I had so much fun. I've booked in again next week, I can't wait.

RNIS was invited by the Euro to sample their beers and pizzas and did not have to pay. The European Bier café is an old beer café run by Sherrie who is really friendly. We met her both at Mundo Lingo and at this event and enjoyed ourselves thoroughly. About 30 other people came to this event and we met up with the two Scottish tourists who love beer as much as Melbourne does. Budweiser Just last year they introduced a pizzeria which is enjoyed by many. Their pizzas there range from $7-$12. This session was run by a beer aficondo called Julie who is from Adelaide. Mozerella We tried four pizzas with four beers. Normally it is about $35 and on top of this we added a garlic pizza. We lov

Salmon not bad. Had the salmon with salsa for dinner. Was delicious!
Parma Daze
One reviewer was particularly famished and ordered himself a bowl of wedges as an entree - which were promptly seagull’ed by the rest of the table - they were good wedges with the standard sour cream and sweet chili sauce, if they were any indicator as to the quality of the parma we were about to receive, we were in for a quality piece of chicken.

on a Friday night if you wanna dance away to a live band playing covers and have cheap basic spirits at $6 each. It's nothing special… just a pub with live music but everyone here is happy to go with the flow and get moving on the dancefloor. Its royal wedding night… half the population is at home watching the box whilst the other half is trying to find a way to avoid it. I'm hoping to avoid it but there's little chance of that as like most venues around the city with TVs, European Bier Cafe is showing the royal wedding. The European Bier Cafe wouldn't rate that highly on my choice of venues but it's a mate's birthday so it's good to head along to ca

There was a great amount of flavour in the dish as a whole but it was nevertheless rather disappointing. I had expected the dish to be served in a paellera (paella pan). And as it was served on a plate, it didn't have the beautifully crusty/slightly burnt bottom and it didn't have the infused aromas of being cooked over an open fire. It tasted like a nice risotto. Pleasant but like I said, disappointing . In hindside, I should have read the descriptions on the menu properly because the chef really did deliver what he/she had promised. In any event, it was still better than my paella experience at Simply Spanish.

The live band makes the place rather noisy and hard to carry on conversations. The place itself looked pretty nice and comfortable, good for a casual dinner or after work drinks. In addition, it is one of those 'order at the bar' places without table service, although the waiters do bring the food out to the tables for you. Service was relatively slow, especially with the entrees, but the mains rolled out with a small wait but roughly at the same time. Seasoned Wedges served with sweet chilli and sour cream and cheese and bacon Perfect wedges loaded with lots of melted cheese and bacon bits! Duo of Housemade Greek Dips (beetroot and tzatziki) with toasted Turkish bread and marinated olives Bruschetta with roasted garlic, slow roasted tomatoes, Spanish onion, basil and a balsamic reduction Pes

ECB has a nice ambience for a drink or two with your mates and some finger food after a long day at work. As for dinner and proper food, I would suggest that you are better off somewhere else besides from the Chicken Buger?

We didn’t get an apology for the long wait for our food, which ended up being tepid...I want to give this place an OK rating but unfortunately, I cannot find any points that would redeem it from the lowest mark.

This post is not predominantly about the food. That is because there are so many other things wrong with this establishment that to criticize its food would seem almost cruel. To start off, the good things: convenient location and ambient furnishings. Now onto the bad: slow or non-existent service, atrocious attitudes (especially from the bald guy), long periods of waiting time for food. All of which are tell-tale symptoms of inefficient staffing and ineffective management. I first came here with a group of 5 others for dinner on a weeknight. We started off with drinks at the bar and also placed our food orders with the bartender. Ordering wasn't easy because we were about one of 3 groups vying for the attention of a single bartender amongst all the other patrons seated at the bar. Afterwards, we went back to our table and waited. We were looking forward to catching up with one another and initially did not notice that the food was taking its time to arrive. But the anxious turning of

It wasn't my decision to come here, but sometimes when you have to eat, you just need to go along with the group. It looks like any other pub really, so I expected something average and edible. Unfortunately the European Bier Cafe couldn't even reach the average target I set for them. I ordered $18 fish and chips, and as I saw the plate being delivered to our table I was hoping that it wasn't mine - a tiny piece of fish with a small handful of chips scattered underneath. It had looked like they had deliberately reduced the amount of chips on my plate, or perhaps the waiter had been helping himself to some as he brought it to my table - in any case, the presentation didn't exude much care. <br/><br/>If it was a great tasting meal I could forgive the portion size (or lack thereof), but unfortunately the battered fish tasted like it came from a frozen Birds Eye packet, only more limp and stale. The chips also had a similar warmed over taste. In summary, fasting is a better option than having to order food from here.

Pretty Average. Had lunch here with a large group, food was pretty average however was very quick to be served. Nothing special and wouldn't return.

Fairly basic fare for lunch, but I still liked it. I had a Caeser salad with chicken and was fairly pleased, particularly with the generous chicken portions. A bouquet too to the young lady behind the bar on the second floor today who also served and cleared the meals. Impressive friendliness and overall service quality. It's a pub here. It's basic but I liked the meal and the service. Well done.

Wrong. Stick to the beers here because the chicken parma is terrible. How can one get the napoli sauce, the cheese and the ham (if you can call the shreds that) in a parma so wrong? Had to mask the poor form with some Chimay Red which I'm glad they serve here.

Good food. Schnitzel is most excellent.

Had dinner here tonight to use a voucher we had. You need to order the food at the bar. The batman had little idea about how to order the food on the computer. We ordered some tapas to start with and then mains. We then sat down an enjoyed our beer. The food took forever, but we noticed the kitchen ring the bell a few times and could see our food but no one came to bring it to our table. I kid you not, it was just over 15 minutes and many bell rings from the kitchen before someone eventually brought our food over. They brought out the tapas and the mains at the same time!! They have no idea. The food was only just warm after sitting on the counter for 15 mins. Dreadful service. On the other hand the beer was lovely. We will never be going back. This pub is one to avoid if you are after good food!
