Great ambience, our wait staff was amazing with recommendations and his overall engagement with us. Cocktails were delicious, chicken ribs were as well. We had the deer, jerk chicken, the wagyu beef, seasoned greens, fries, and the board with pate.
Absolutely delicious food which provides a perfect location for a meal out with friends. The Feed me menu was very very filling and we were super intrigued and delightfully surprised by the game meat special! Will definitely be returning.
Such a great place! Energetic vibes and casual food that's intended for sharing amongst friends. We've also tried game meat, which was buffalo meat (not pictured), it was delish but not as tasty as the crackling pork.
After a drink upstairs in the African safari-themed Glamp bar, the six of us were seated in one of the cozy booths and served by an excellent staff member who really engaged with us to guide us through the menu and suggest what to order.
The entrees were honey sesame haloumi balls, fried chicken with a light drizzle of honey, and charcuterie board of melt-in-your-mouth duck liver parfait and biltong pastrami.
For the mains we opted with the tender pork belly, harissa lamb shank, and of course the saucy, spiced smoked goat curry - which inevitably was everyone's favourite. A side of greens and tagine-style eggplant perfectly complimented the mains.
I don't think any one of us could fault Polepole, from its creative concept and ambient vibe to the fantastic African cuisine... we will be returning here without a doubt.
Food was delicious. This was a great place to get out of my comfort zone. The lamb sausages, goat and the ostrich did take me by surprised, it was very delicious. Salad needed a little more dressing but all the sides and sauces did compliment well with the dish. Presentation was well done. I recommend this place. We did, however felt a little rushed by the service.
This place is da bomb diggity. Amazing selection of beers (would recommend the milk stout on offer) and delicious banquet option not to mention hip vibes. We’ve been to a few African restaurants but not to a fusion place before, and this one really has a stand out menu. My favourites were the goat curry and the fried chicken ribs, but you can’t really go wrong tbh. Waitstaff were also very friendly. All in all, a banging night!!
Celebrated valentine’s day, ordered the Feed Me menu which had 3 courses. It was plenty for 2! It was our first time trying African fusion. Everything tasted good, especially the pork belly.
The only thing was that it was crowded on a Friday night so service was a little slow. Waited about 45 minutes for our first course. Overall we had a great experience and would definitely come back to try out the other dishes!
While walking down little collins st, polepole's menu caught my attention. 25 dollars for a main and a drink Friday lunch and options included a goat curry with rice, yoghurt and injera bread. I needed no further convincing. I got here on a Friday lunch. The familiar pub (wet clothes/shoes/alcohol sticky floor) smell greeted me as I went up the stairs. Funky tunes played from the speaker and there was one waitress and a manager. She waited until my friend arrived before bringing over a menu. We were told the 25 bucks included any soft drink or the alcoholic drinks on the menu but they didn't have kombucha. So, I got sparkling water instead. The goat curry was way better than I had anticipated. And a massive portion to boot. Usually, when you have goat meat you get goat on the bone so you end up with less meat and more bone. However, this time, all I got was massive chunks of succulent goat meat in a very delicious slightly spicy curry with lots of flavour. It didn't taste indian or like any flavour I had had but was bloody damn delicious. The rice was salted. The injera bread rolled up and went well with the food. There was some yoghurt and some green salad with pomegranate. I was in heaven. My friend had ordered the snapper with fries and was disappointed with his meal because he had anticipated an equally fancy meal and got boring fish and chips which were very bland. He wasn't happy and I had a taste of his snapper after my flavoursome meal and thought it would have been better with some tartare or some other sauce as it tasted like nothing. Lucky me.
Split bills allowed.
I'll be back and only for the goat curry.
My partner and I went to celebrate our anniversary. I’ve always wanted to try delicious African food and this place didn’t disappoint! The staff were so helpful and friendly and the food was absolutely delicious. I can’t wait to go back again!
Decor was beautiful and the service was very relaxed yet attentive. We had the Wild Wednesday game night special, which featured a delicious entrée platter and a buffalo steak. I think my favourite part of the night was the pate and pickled vegetable combination in the starter. The buffalo steak was a bit gristly, but it's what you expect from game meat.
The dishes were spot on, with every dish an explosion of well melding flavour. The salted caramel dessert was the perfect finish, especially if you're not much of a sweet tooth. Overall, a wonderful introduction into contemporary African cuisine :)
Wow. The food is mind-blowing. Absolutely unreal.
I want to go back and try the rest of the menu. Highly recommend checking out this hidden gem. If you go, you've gotta try the grilled halloumi, it's to die for. Do yourself a favour and go suss this joint out.
A fun, city Bar showcasing African inspired grazing plates, cocktails and motifs.
The only African dish that I am familiar with is the Injera - a sponge-like wrap. I had something similar at a Ethiopian restaurant. By itself, it is a bit tart. But if you roll pieces of the injera with the meat dishes, with some of the spiced oil, the whole combination sings. Several standout dish - the lamb ribs - char, melt-in-the-mouth, spiced chilli heat. The pumpkin pastillas with that bright green "pebre" (fresh, chilli heat) sauce is a winning combination.
We only had an hour for a pre-theatre meal but these guys knocked it out of the park. Managed to get through the chef’s 5 plate tasting menu for both of us and the flavour were superb. Definitely coming back when we have a bit more time to enjoy properly.
Went for a couple of drinks, it was busy but not too crowded. Drink was recommended to us and it didnot disappoint. You could taste all the flavours, we ordered it again!
molto buono (hotpants sessions)

It’s so first time to have “fusion cuisine of Australia and Africa “. Everything is so amazing for me! I got loved with African beers! phots are Kenyan beer, lamb rib, camel sausages, and chicken wings. So delicious!
Creative African fusion. Friendly staff and nice food. Me and my partner tried the African wheaty Phoenix beer and Dry Cider (but I found it actually quite fruity 😋), both are really good as the start of the night. We had the "FEED ME" as dinner, it comes 7 dishes of chef's choice. Our favorite is the Peri peri prawns, and the most unforgettable is the halloumi. Worth of trying if you have never experienced any African food. I reckon it's a nice place for friends or couples to grab beers or wine with some finger food. Very relaxing atmosphere.
First time here, had the chefs choice of 7. Couldn't fault any of the selections. Each had its own distinct flavour and every dish was superlative 😋
