Finally a pho place in the city worth mentioning! I was getting sick of expensive half-ass pho in the city but this one was on point & authentic. Just from the broth alone you will notice a huge difference compared to other places :) Big portion, decent pricing, and simply, flavourful. Don't expect fantastic service though lol. Possibly the best one in the city!

While it’s not hard to find a Vietnamese restaurant in Melbourne, it is hard to find a big steaming bowl of delicious vegetable pho. Luckily, Pho Dzung City Noodle Shop on Russel Street has it covered. . Offering 21 different types of pho (including tripe and tendon for the more adventurous type), and serving up dishes of lemon, beansprouts, Thai basil and chilli before you even get a chance to place your order, it's becomes pretty clear quickly that people only come here for one reason only - the pho. Whilst not technically pho (which I understand has to be made with beef broth), the vegetable noodle soup with chicken stock ($15) was one of the best Veggie (fake) phos I’ve had in Melbourne. It’s good mix of veggies, use of fresh produce and delicious fragrant stock made it a dish that I would definitely come back for.

Pho specializing eatery in the CBD.

The place is pretty spacious, altho space between tables can be bit close. During my first visit it was lunchtime and the staffs were all pretty nice, especially the lady serving me. However during my recent visit after lunchtime, the staffs were behind counters at all times, so we had to come over to order and ask for stuffs which was bit disappointing, food did come out pretty quick.

1st visit:

I had my pho with beef brisket slices, beef fat, tendons and meatballs (beef base soup). I actually asked for chicken as well but she probably didn't remember or the chef made a mistake. Either way, I was okay with that. Their medium size was so generous, my friend had their large which was huge. I do think that they added more noodles rather than meat, though I'm not very sure. Anyhow the meat was generous, the soup was quite flavorful and hearty. Beansprouts, basil leaves and lime slices on the sides were pretty fresh.

2nd visit:

Special beef pho (medium) had all the same beef parts as the one I had previously, though I changed the sausage to meatball instead. Still highly enjoyable, meats were tender, soup was still tasty and portion was still generous. However also still bit too much noodle to pair with the toppings.

Bun bo hue (traditional hue spicy beef soup) was also really yummy, definitely something to have if you're after more flavour and it's not too spicy too, quite mild even which I liked. The noodle was nicely cooked, with nice pork ham, beef brisket.

Prawn spring rolls were yummy, nicely fried and had great flavor, good filling to skin ratio too!

Overall, price was worth the portion and taste, though my recent visit suggests that they need to work on their service.

P.S It's cash only unfortunately, though ATM machine is apparently provided (as written in the signboard)
ALSO their door is such a PAIN to open and close.

( follow for more!✨)

I’ve been here several times and I always without a doubt get my beef ball pho. They offer it in three bowl sizes (I usually get medium). Always delicious and the tea is always nice and warm.

I can’t remember how many times I have walked past this shop but didn’t get a chance to try. When it comes to pho, I tend to have my own favourite place. However, it was worth trying in here. Will definitely come back on a cold day

Not very good today! I order large but provide me the medium! You know I will not ask you to change because I can guess your chef exactly will just put the old one back to wok and add some more! The noodle will bad if I ask do that. And this is the first time I got PHO ONLY have two pieces of beef. No shop like yours. I would not come again! Compare with the first time it make me very disappoint.

(The First time)
The Pho shop in CBD has located near the China town but not the famous one which is recommended by famous Chinese foodie Chua Lam(that one in Richmond). But this one is the best in CBD as well. The soup base is tasty and rich flavor and also not thirsty after the meal. The dish also valuable and huge size for me.

Simple, authentic pho. If I'm in the city and after a bowl of savoury, beefy goodness - I come here. It's no frills and not a place for a date if you're looking music and ambience (which this place has none of!) but if you're after a bowl where you can indulge in some spoon slurping on your own OR with friends you have no shame with - then this is the place for you.

I've had a few of the beef pho variations (beef ball, combination beef etc) and they've all been good. I've also had the prawn rice paper rolls which I wouldn't order again as I found these really bland without the sauce. The prawn filling was also were sparse (seemed as though there was nothing in it!).

We ordered 3 bowls of spicy beef noodles and a portion of prawn spring rolls for share.
The food was as delicious as Vietnamese food should be. The portioning was good as well.

I’m pretty harsh for Vietnamese food lol, but this is ok, broth is alright, good portion, nice staff, nice price, sometimes staffs don’t really pay attention to the customer, otherwise, they’re good

I only come here for the beef pho. I usually get rare beef and brisket or special beef. Great value.
Unfortunately, broth is inconsistent. Some days it's phenomenal, other days it's too light and watered down. Never truly bad though.

Beautiful bowl of Vietnamese beef broth. Full of aroma and the juice from the beef. I love the broken rice. Pork was juicy and tender. Shredded pork was super savory. Pork loaf tasted good.

Looking for a descent Vietnamese noodle soup in Melbourne city ? Then this is THE place to go. Noodle soup was my daily uni life back in the old days and I've tried many I mean MANY different places in Melbourne CBD but there are always some issues. Noodle was wayyyy over cooked or couldn't taste deep rich flavour in the noodle soup. But this place does really tasty soup and gives you enough portion for the money. Do not get the large soup from this place it's wayyy to much mid size is more than enough, instead order the rice paper roll you will thank me later. You might think why I gave only 4 stars? Although the soup was great but I've had one step better in Christchurch also they take only cash here. You won't regret it give a go.

This is a great place for a quick and cheep lunch. A very filling and tasting noodle soup for around $14 is great value for money. It's not flash but fairly basic and wholesome.

A large serving of Pho, perfect for Melbourne's cool weather. Will give you Hanoi feels at the heart of the CBD, their music is in Vietnamese as as well.
