This great old hotel serves very good meals. I struggled to choose, but finally settled on a stuffed baby pumpkin (vegetarian option) with a bit of side salad that was excellent. Went well with the cider I ordered, too.
I was there on a quiet night (or perhaps a bit late). The staff were courteous and helpful and the facilities very serviceable.
Had not been into the Waterside for a few years, it had been a long time between drinks. Nothing has changed it is still a beauty! Draught on tap is crisp and fresh, it went perfectly with the 1/2 pound cheeseburger which was amazing. Great pub, a must of you are looking for a drink in the CBD.
We came to the Deck for work drinks a couple of months ago. It’s really nice up there and well worth climbing the flights of stairs. We were given a roped off area and our own access to the bar which was a good idea as not long after we arrived the remainder of the space got plenty packed with other patrons and the front side of the bar was deep into queuing territory which we got to avoid. Perfect spot on a sunny day. Loud from chatter rather than music.
With a revamped menu and completely new image – The Waterside is now a place to actually care about. In years gone by it was just a mediocre pub with stock-standard pub grub. The only reason it had patronage was due to its central and iconic location on the corner of King and Flinders. Things have changed folks.
This local pub hotel is quite happening. Ground level is the usual quiet pub like with sports and Powerball on the screens but then climb up past two levels of modern dance music. Yes 101.1 kiss FM to the rooftop. Omg. Now this rooftop is green with plants. It's got awesomely strong heating. Massive drinks list and a delicious bites menu.
Oh and it's got alcohol and non alcohol free popsicles with as little as 40 calories. This is so gonna be my Friday night haunt from now on. Oh and massive dance floor with people actually dancing not grinding. The crowd is good too.
Need to keep it a secret.
Oh I went on a Saturday night.
...you know what you are going to get, a solid meal that is filling and enjoyable.
Although the patty was a tad small, and the burger had some serious structural issues, this was overlooked because the burger as a whole just worked. If anything, this burger epitomised synergy - while the sum of its parts may not have been great, as one, it was something to behold.
The Waterside is a no frills pub just like they used to be. Excellent lunch deal of a Parma with chips and salad and scooner for $17. Good slab of chicken in the Parma. Worth a visit!
Festivus - Very good pub. Meals better than pub meals
Had parma twice,,,cant lose ;)
I will be back
Good burger, but pricey for pub food. One of the reasons I never became an alcoholic is because I can't hear anyone talking in pubs, bars and clubs. That's why I never hung out in them after I left uni. The din overwhelms my ears, so I always look daft, saying "WHAT?!?" and asking people to repeat themselves. The Waterside Hotel is like that on Friday night, with music over the sound system, peals of drunken laughter and everyone shouting to be heard, which only increases the waves of white noise that crash and rise like the vocal equivalent to surf at the shore. So I didn't chat to anyone when I was there, just ate.
I had read Urbanspoon reviewers' praises of Waterside's burger with the lot, including that it contained the traditional beetroot slices. It was a big, busy burger, so I barely noticed the beet slices until it all started falling apart when I was 2/3 of the way through the burger. The beets and tomatoes make it wet, so the bun gets soggy. The patty was large, probably 300 grams of mince, and had some great crunchy grill char on the outside. There was too much salt in the meat for my palate, but at least it wasn't MSG. Burger was 100% beef, no "pad-itives" to stretch it out like some pub burgers have. The cup of fat chips that came with it was also perfectly cooked (but too many shakes of salt.)
My only gripe is that this cost too much for a counter meal at a pub. The burger/chips combo is $18.50, even when you order at the bar. I had a pint of Fat Yak (my attitude is there's no point in drinking small glasses of beer, mates) which put the price tag to $29. For a hamburger, chips and a bee-yah. I ought to go veggo and start drinking VB...
I'm so happy that this is a great pub because it's nice and close to us! We had a family dinner on a Wednesday night. As soon as we walked in the door we were greeted warmly by staff. We found a really comfy booth table in the bar area to eat at. We ordered a porterhouse steak, the burger and a Parma, all were lovely quality (better than usual pub quality) meals and reasonably priced. Very friendly service. Our search for a good local is over!
Edited: went back again and it was just as good. We went for a drink on the rooftop and then sat in the dining room to eat. Still great service and good quality meals.

Great place for an affordable and quick business lunch. $22 for Steak or Parma with a beer or house wine. G was fabulous with his prompt and friendly service. I have been wanting to take a look for some time at this bar / pub and I was not disappointed. I love the decor, the various options for seating and the size. Unfortunately I did not get to see the roof top bar. Certainly worth a visit.
We had a group of 13 people. The booking was super easy and we got a pretty big table. Went there during lunch time and lunch special are very reasonable priced. Note that there is no table service so you do need to service yourself but the food is good and comes to a house drink (beer, wine or softies).
Garlic bread is the best, Erin is the best!!!!!!! Good beer selection. Must visit.
Good food at a reasonable price. Very accommodative service. Great experience
There is a good beer selection here. The food is good and the service is excellent. It gets busy here on Friday's so I'd recommend booking, particularly for the roof top.
Very good steak and fish... only thing the vegan pasta lacked salt. Vegan polenta was awesome!!
Nice place for a casual lunch, sticky carpet and all. My salmon was very nice.
