What a gem of a local. Only recently stumbled upon it but am I glad I did. The drinks menu is strong and the wait staff are attentive and friendly. Great place for a date spot, cheeky wine or a decent cocktail & catch up. The food looked amazing, share plate vibes. Can't wait to come back.

I love Gerald’s bar for the vino - obviously: their range of wines, which change regularly, means you’re spoiled for choice and I always have to ask what I should have. Luckily, the recommendations of the bar staff are amazingly prophetic: I’m pretty sure they’re psychic as I always get exactly what I feel like!
Forget your old school sav Blancs and the like (which they probably have, I just never get them), this is the place to go international or try something local, layered and amazing that you won’t get at your local wine of the day watering hole. Gerald’s is an educational experience if you like good wine!
I wouldn’t go pas the food here either. Although I normally go after dinner on the weekend, juicy marinated olives are a staple, but for this pescatarian their a-l-carte menu has a lot of great choices on tapas and small plates. And the desserts are pretty special too. Then there’s the music, the museum of popular iconography that makes for the coolest decor. What’s not to like? Go there - just don’t steal my seat under the stairs!
Had a really nice evening here with some friends. As I first walked in I thought I was in Spain again which took my breath away. The set menu reminded me of the flavours of San Sebastián. The service was fantastic the team is very inviting and knowledgeable, the wine selection is also very good. It’s a relaxed atmosphere and it’s almost sad to leave when the night is over.
Great vibe and cocktails with a shared menu that's varied but more hit than miss. Cool tunes and savvy staff with good knowledge of the menu and wines.
Lovely bar. Great service & its particularly nice sitting out the front on a warm night. Food was incredibly rich. The Calabrese salad was by far the best thing we ate. Salmon was also up there with one of the better dishes
My new favourite bar in Melbourne - even if it's a bit of a hike (or uber ride) from the CBD. The winelist is very interesting, especially the constantly changing wines-by-the-glass, the cocktails are great, and the menu is a daily rotation of amazing morsels. The smaller bites are more interesting and better value than the larger courses - which makes perfect sense given this is a bar first and foremost. The timber panelled ambience (and even the experience of sitting and waiting on the stairs) is one of the best in Melbourne, and the awesome music (proper records and a valve amp) makes for a perfect evening out.
Great drinks, awesome music, relaxed vibe, friendly people, cosy setting and an amazing menu that changes almost daily. Places this polished are rare enough in the CBD, and virtually non-existent outside of it. Makes you feel fortunate to live in Carlton North.
Gerald's Bar - is fabulous, a great bar that serves seasonal food in a space where you feel like your visiting an old friend. Staff are incredible, really knowledgeable and passionate with a cheekiness that I love. The booze is always great, always drinking interesting wines and cocktails made by pros.
Gerald’s Bar has long been a locals’ favourite for those residing in Carlton North. Located on Rathdowne Street next to the famous (or perhaps infamous) La Porchettas pizza restaurant, Gerald’s is in a nice quiet part of the area and is a great location for a few drinks.
Hands down my favourite place in Melbourne. Attentive but unobtrusive staff, a different menu every day,fabulous drinks selection and the perfect ambience every time.

My favourite spot in town. A warm and inviting ambience with a beautiful selection of vinyl records from around the world, delicious food with many specific details about the space that give it character and unpacks many stories. The more you go and engage with its hosts, the more you fall in love with the place. Great to go on a date, with friends, or alone (highly recommend the last).
A little taste of Spain in Melbourne! The food is delicious and is always the perfect bite. The Bar itself is gorgeous and full of knick knacks that bring charm and class to the venue at the same time. The best part about Geralds bar are the staff! Super attentive and friendly. Clearly a neighbourhood institution. Excellent in its eccentricity. Food and drink service is prompt and satisfying. Would definitely return for more on my next trip to Melbourne. Worth the small journey out of your comfort zone.
