We love and look forward to authentic Japanese food after relocation from Sydney to Melbourne and this is the second one we tried.
With a fine dining interior at first we worried it'd be expensive but price was fair or relatively cheap with such food quality.
We ordered the Sushi & Sashimi Combination Platter for 2 and it was fresh and able to satisfy us! The little Sukiyaki which was on special was yummy too.
Both the staffs here were friendly and provided great service.
With such vibe, food quality & service we definitely will return while we keep exploring our favourite jp restaurants~!
One of the best and most under rated Japanese restaurants in town. A simple menu that hasn’t changed for years. King fish cheeks are awesome.
Having walked past this little place a number of times in the heart of Albert Park high street , thought it was time to try it out.... for some reason it’s never packed so wasn’t quite sure what to expect. We dropped in after 8:30pm on Friday night and there was only one other table seated. The manager was super friendly and welcoming and ran us through the menu and specials... decided to try ordering a few different small plates of edamame, seared salmon sushi, miso soup, gyozas , crab dumplings , spicy prawns with green beans and teriyaki fried chicken. Food was very tasty and well presented . Good wine list although thought wine by the glass was abit on the pricy side. Overall a cute casual place for a bite to eat and worth a try
We commenced our meal at Eis on a recent cold and rainy evening seated snugly by the window and a warm gas heater, only two other tables in the restaurant were occupied.
We ordered a couple of Kirin Ichiban beers and edamame to kick things off while we checked out the menu.
The edamame was the exact opposite of fresh and we were served Kirin Megumi beers (less delicious and locally brewed rather than imported from Japan). After such an unpromising start I began to wonder if we has made a mistake but we kept faith in the recommendation of the friend who suggested we give Eis a shot and we pressed on…
We ordered the sushi and sashimi combination plate, tatsuta age and grilled half eggplant. Thankfully everything was delicious! The sushi and sashimi were excellent (some of the best sashimi I have had), the tatsuta age was great and the miso baked half eggplant was also really good.
I’d go back but needless to say I’d skip the edamame and beer – we had a nice dry sake that didn’t seem to be on the menu so I would suggest asking for a sake recommendation that suits your taste – the staff were very helpful.
Are you looking for great quality Sushi that just melts in your mouth and has a unique flavour? If so, then Eis is the place for you. Having been awhile since Emily and I have had good sushi, we decided to visit this pocket of a restaurant located in the heart of South Melbourne.
With a very intimate ambience offering a relaxed fine dining vibe, you will feel immediately welcome and at ease. The attendant we had was a woman from Japan who was nothing short of exemplary in service. Always topping up our waters, ensuring we were enjoying our meal, to even leading us out by holding the door and bringing the card machine to us upon payment- she is the embodiment of what is so crux in Japan and we loved her and the restaurant that much more.
Now let's get to the sushi. Gyozas, 4 pieces of special seared salmon with ocean salt(?), The salmon avocado and of course Salmon Sashimi on its own (upon request). The Gyozas were a surprise considering as they were fried as pictured but were tasty nonetheless. We loved how it was so crunchy on the outside but was still so soft within, with the meats oozing with flavour. The salmon avocado was creamy with sauce, and literally melted in your mouth. The salmon sashimi was succulent and juicy, tasting fresh and marbled- a fattier variety and taste than others symbolising greater value and taste (for me anyway). Finally the seared salmon is to die for. Similar to the ippudo seared salmon, this was just too good. What was surprising was how well it went with the chosen salt, and how it all melted in your mouth for a flavourful of goodness.
We highly recommend this restaurant for great quality Sushi and sashimi. A true Japanese Experience in every single way!

The service is wonderful and the food is consistently delicious- great, traditional Japanese food They are very happy to do take away. Our favourite dishes are the tatsuka age chicken, salmon rolls (sushi is amazing) and the gyoza. HIGHLY RECOMMEND.
An amazing experience. I have visited on several occasions for the dégustation and never left disappointed. The food is meticulously presented and perfectly matched with a superb wine.
Fantastic food and impeccable service. Cannot be faulted, i come here every few weeks and the food and service is always consistent. If you are after quality authentic Japanese food do not hesitate, try EIS. You will not be dissapointed
A lovely Japanese place with delicious food and good service. Been there twice recently. I like their rolls and sushi. Beef sukiyaki is very good.
Very good food, both the mains and desserts. The outstanding part was the personal service and attention, which was exceptional. Highly recommended.
This japanese restaurant serves both modern/contemporary dishes along with the more traditional sushi and sashimi. What we love were the fried chicken and the dumplings. Chicken was crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. The accompanying pickle was refreshing with a bit of heat to it. The crab dumpling was seasoned perfectly and the noodle-like skin was something unique we never see before.

Cute little restaurant run by a nice Japanese guy. Food was great, the traditional Japanese food hits the mark and is made with really fresh tasting Ingredients.
The modern spin on Japanese foods/ western fusion went down a treat and is definitely worth trying.
Some of, if not the most authentic style Japanese cuisine in Melbourne. From the wagyu to the sashimi it’s all amazingly fresh. Small venue makes it a very personal experience. Couldn’t recommend more.

Awesome Contemporary Japanese Restaurant that also has the traditional favourites. The Scallop Entree is exceptional and Sukiyaki fabulous. Finish off with Crepe desert. Very Highly Recommend ed!!
One of my favourite Japanese restaurants in Melbourne, great for small families or date nights. Eis' menu offers two options - those who prefer contemporary take on Japanese, and those who prefer the traditional. For the quality of food, it is extraordinarily good value. I especially love the eggplant - smoky and sweet, and oh so more-ish. There's also a well thought-out and very reasonably priced wine list. I am lucky to call this my local.
We wanted some fine Japanese food in these challenging times so ordered a sushi/sashimi platter, grilled eggplant and desserts from our favourite local Japanese restaurant, Eis. Complementing this meal with a fine sake, we were not disappointed. Thanks again for a delicious dinner!
