Staffs are friendly and attentive. Love the vibe not the music though. This place is also very clean and their bar food is on another level!
We’ve ordered a variety of dishes from nachos, steaks to burgers and nothings came short on quality. I’m really impressed.
The Gluten-Free Foodie
+4
The renovated pub is a great venue and large enough to accommodate big groups. Our group of three arrived in the early evening on a Saturday to an extremely quiet place where we felt a little lost. The bar staff were lovely but seemingly a bit frazzled and unsure of the products. We ordered at the bar and then had a waitress advise 5 mins later our entree wasn’t available and to pick something else similar instead but wouldn’t allow us to as nothing else cost that exact amount.
The food itself was delicious. I had a classic Parma GF which was great. Smaller than Cornish Arms but quality was there. All in all it was a bit awkward but nice dining experience.
Would not recommend for a date or catch up where you want to have an in-depth convo.
Came here on a public holiday and it was dead! Felt really bad for the staff just hanging around at the bar. I love the separate vegan menu! I ordered the vegan zucchini burger, it was delicious! Great range of beers on tap and the interior has a great set up (was hard to tell the vibe from lack of customers). I will be back to taste more yummy food and enjoy the friendly service :)
My partner and I had a scoopon lunch deal here for $35, 3 course meal simple but delicious.
The price included two drinks each (alcoholic or not) which was absolutely amazing for the price.
friendly staff and nice environment. Would go again.
staff were friendly, prompt and professional - I must add it is simply awesome to see an actual Australian pub hiring multicultural staff for a change - a big thumbs up to the hiring manager for this as I find many Australian pubs hire mostly Caucasians. food was good quality and awesome value for money - they have some sort of special most days and the Groupon deal is well worth it. Decor is bohemian / grungy style, which is not my thing really, but at least the place is clean and well maintained.
Got the scoopon deal.
Great value food. But the steak was tough and very plain. The beef burger was good. The fish and chips at the other table looked good, should’ve gotten that. Cheesecake was bomb. There was long waiting times in between meals though.
The Shaw Davey Slum has been there for a while now and they are featured in the Entertainment book. They are a student pub in Carlton which has cheap happy hours. However, they have a minimum spend in the book which I did not know about. It turns out that you need to spend $30 on food alone and not the drinks part.
Good service. Delicious food. Loved the ambience there. It's welcoming with an eager energy, boosted by keen waiters. Peanut cheese cake is soooo yummy. Perfect place for a dinner date.
Been here a few times and I’m never disappointed. Drinks are cheap, the meals are reasonably priced but always amazing. Highly rate the zucchini burger and the fried Camembert. Great lunch/dinner spot and the tunes are good!
$5 pizza, $8 jugs, $6 house spirits, $7 cocktails, Wednesdayieces wing platters with chips. Can it get any better than that for a poor college student??? Wooo
Best barman ever! Thanks Brendan for making my birthday so memorable. Experimental, creative and generous. Go get a peanut-the-slum-dog-martini, one of the best cocktails I've ever had!
The service was great - they really went above and beyond to ensure we had a good night. Cheap and tasty food and drinks, games available to play, not overcrowded. A perfect hangout place with friends
Had my 21st here, such an incredible night here it won't be forgotten. The staff were very friendly and accommodating, food was great and the drinks even better. Will definitely be returning again!
Love this place, awesome service, great drinks and nibbles! Bartenders are awesome, especially, Brendan, knows how to suggest a new drink! Keep up the awesome service and brilliant attitude!!
We purchased a scoopon which made the meal very good value for money. Staff were very friendly and attentive.
Entree was mixed platter with polenta chip, aranchini ball, buffalo wing and calamari. All items were very tasty and i really liked the variety.
Mains we ordered steak and chips. Steak was a little tough but chips were fantastic. Dish came with a small jar of aoli sauce which was beautiful.
Dessert we ordered the peanut butter cheesecake. It was ok, a bit hard and on the drier side but it had nice peanut butter flavour. Couldn't finish it as it was very dense and rich.
Overall, a good experience with good food. Would buy the Scoopon again to try other items on the menu.
Giant venue, amazing staff, good selection of drinks, hearty food, fun vibes when it's busy, chill vibes when it's not.
