Well priced pub food and plenty of outdoor and indoor seating. We ordered the Brie bites which were gooey and delicious plus I had the Fish and Chips which had an amazing batter and a great side salad. Really enjoyed our meal!
$18 sirloin steak w pepper sauce, delicious chips and lovely slaw!! What an easy, quality dish. Unfortunately, I requested a medium rare and it came almost blue. The waitress was lovely around the issue and had the kitchen make another one as a priority. It came perfectly cooked & the waitress came to check on me to ensure it was all good. Appreciate the customer service especially on a busy & warm night in the beer garden! Wine list was small but tasty. Would definitely return to try more on the menu. Keep up the great work!!
The residents of North Carlton are truly blessed to have such an outstanding pub as their local. From the expansive and proudly independent tap list of local and international beers, through to the superb pub grub. It comes as no surprise whatsoever that this establishment is packed to the rafters with punters each and every day.
On a Monday night, the parma special can be enjoyed. For a ridiculously well priced $14. The Dear Luncher went for the Pepperoni Pizza Parma, with salami and capers. A very well executed parma. The chips almost had a honey-like aroma about them. The salad was largely undressed and perhaps the only weak point of what was plated.
This is a superb pub, The Dear Luncher is very jealous of the locals.
I’ve been to the Great Northern for dinner before and always enjoyed the experience and food. Having lunch there was a first. I tried the special, Cheeseburger Pie, not entirely sure what it would be like. It really did have all the flavors of a cheeseburger; amazing!
This is a cool old school pub. The best thing about it in my book is the spacious beer garden at the back. Lots of tables and sport playing throughout the year, but most importantly it's dog friendly! Like enjoying a beer with your pooch? Look no further. A Carlton haunt with character in my book.
Truly blessed to have this great establishment as our local. The vibe is super chill, can't speak for the broader menu but $14 Parma Mondays and $14 rump Tuesdays are staples of our weekly diet, never change.
It's not going to knock your socks off but it's decent pub food, decently executed, and decently priced, and sometimes, that's all you need. The beers are the true star at the GNH, excellent list on offer, and they do many guest brewery stints. Love GNH!
What's not to love. Real pub, food & people. Cheap parmas Monday. The best cheap steaks in melbourne Tuesday. And equally awesome the other 5 days
This pub has one of the best selection of craft beers in Melbourne!! Friendly staff, and a good pub menu with classics and pie of the day served up in a nice traditional pub ambience. Great coverage of sport also.
If you are looking for a place that makes top notch chicken parma's The Great Northern is perfect. My family always goes here and in my opinion it is one of the best pubs in Melbourne👍
I went here in my epic pink Lambo listening to some t swift i arrived and was seated quickly but then realised there was a rat on the floor carrying A Pringle chip! I ordered a chicken Parma and bit into it And realised some maggots were in it I actually liked maggots but then realised my chips were deep fried frogs feet I vomited then to wear off my vomit I ordered a fresh lemonade when I got it had lip marks on it and smelled like stinky socks!!! I then went home and listened to my sad song playlist on Apple Music Counting stars, rocket man, we are never getting back together and I hate you I love you. found the kindness within me and did not report this. BOO HOO at the zoo! 3/10
Good selection of food...usual pub fare plus a few specials. I had the pulled pork roll...which was good and just right for a 'light' lunch!
GREAT selection of beers on tap. Extensive, doggie friendly beer garden / outdoors areas. One of our regular lunch spots. Well recommended
Great Pub atmosphere. It’s worth checking what the weekly specials are as every time I’ve tried the specials they have been great! IPA braised lamb and the milky sponge cake were table favourites. Great flavour and reasonably priced! Well done Kitchen 👍🏽
Food and service were great. Atmosphere was really nice too, however, it was extremely busy and food took a very long time to arrive. I understand why it took so long and am not holding it against the pub, just pointing it out. It's a really popular place, so don't go in there when really hungry, hang out, have some drinks and slowly wait for your food if too busy. Would love to go back but maybe during a quieter time of day.
The great Northern is a great pub. The inside has a classic old pub feel but the outside beer garden is where its at. Lovely timber deck area with a great vibe. Plenty of shade for warm days, and it's also dog friendly which is 5 stars in my eyes. A great range of beer on tap, and a cider tap inside also. Great spot for an arvo drink.
Great place to meet dogs and have some beers. Big inside and also with a big outdoor space.
Cosy in Winter. Decent craft beer selection. Excellent parma $20 on Mondays.
