I absolutely cannot say how highly I recommend King & Godfree - placed a last minute order late last night to arrive delivered today - it was food BEYOND our expectations - and we could not stop raving about it. Covid caught us in surprise lockdown for our daughters 21st birthday - and gathering high quality eat at home food suitable for such a special occasion on short notice AND delivered would seem impossible - but not for King & Godfree - the online shopping is easy and the selections premium at fantastic prices - the products were all beautifully thinly sliced, fresh, and absolute perfection in every way - will most DEFINITELY be on my highly recommended list - thank you SO MUCH for your incredible customer service.
Wonderful location with great service and food. My dessert was the best tasting Tiramisu I’ve had and was also the largest portion I’ve had served to me. The coffee was a little weak for my taste but I won’t that overshadow the tiramisu.
On busy Lygon Street there are so many fabulous options for dining or drinks, and King and Godfree is an absolute favourite. This location is part deli, part cafe and restaurant and part bar; but in every way, it's a great experience.
It gets really busy here, especially on weekends; but that just adds to the fabulous atmosphere. Service is fantastic, and I have always found the staff to be extremely friendly and chatty.
Whilst they have a delicious menu, on our latest visit we chose to enjoy the sunny weather with some fabulous Aperol Spritz and an amazing cheese platter. With a well stocked deli on site, you are guaranteed to have some delicious cheese offerings, and it didn't disappoint.
Whether you are after a cuppa and cake, a lovely afternoon drink, or a proper meal; you can be certain that you will enjoy your experience at King and Godfree.
We called into King & Godfree on what was one of Melbourne’s hottest days on record for a few cool drinks and to escape the heat. We had contemplated going upstairs to the rooftop but it was furnace like up there. They have a nice range of wines and gave us little nibbles to accompany our drinks which was very much appreciated. I’ve eaten in before and enjoyed the food but it was just drinks for us tonight.

Walked past this restaurant a hundred times and finally made the effort to go in and see for myself when there wasn't a queue of people. The first few steps inside scream quality, the fittings and furniture, the display counters and then there's the gentle aromas of food and coffee gently permeating the cafe come dining area. The service was good but it really depended on who actually interacted with you as some of the staff were really friendly and appeared to genuine about making your visit a great experience for you.
We had a grilled snapper and the chicken cotoletta - both were great and well portioned and presented. We also had some arancini that were great little starters. The wine list is good with a good selection of local and imported wines. Coffee was exceptional. It's not a cheap eat but really was worth it for the entire experience.
Very unusual (in a good way) to a regular cafeteria/ restaurant. You can find anything you want in this place, from fresh pasta and bread to a cooked dinner or barista coffee. Will be back!
Fast service, fresh food and friendly service.
What else do ones need for a warm delicious breakfast and ☕️ coffee You go a good range of sweet cakes too if you need a sugar kick to start your weekend
Love being surrounded by food when I’m eating food. Would highly recommend the pesto gnocchi which was delicious.
I really love this place - coffee and ambience are incredible. Staff can be a bit dismissive, unfortunately. Despite being a regular, I find that the staff lack personability. Food is great
Expensive but worth it describes this updated venue on Lygon. Amidst a strip of mostly overpriced tourist traps, King & Godfree provides a superior experience for the money. The fitout is beautiful, space is comfortable, coffee is great and sweets just as good. Tried a soy flat white and a cannoli although I was tempted by the flourless chocolate cake and the quince and almond pie. The cannoli is steep at $3, but offers an incredibly smooth filling texture and satisfying shell that makes the price feel justified.
Truly authentic Italian cuisine 👌👌Food is delicious and fresh with some signature uniqueness. All items that we ordered were super yummy. Indoor and outdoor seating arrangements are available. Has a bakery as well on one side. Fantastic experience. I recommend you reserve your table on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays to avoid long waiting time.
Most definitely a restaurant you don't want to miss while in Melbourne ⭐
Great atmosphere a buzzing vibe. Workers are friendly . I suggest you book .
We had coffee and cake one day sitting on the high stools which was really nice. Also had lunch on a other occasion. Food was lovely but they put too much salt on the food. That would be my only criticism. Well priced
Super tasty little restaurant/Cafe. It has a cozy lelicatessen next door and a few nice Italian beers on tap. Worth a visit for a coffee or meal!
Nice cafe, Bar , Gourmet, quick service, the roast chicken so tender & tasty, I have lunch before back to sydney😊
A nice contrast to the offerings at Lygon street with huge restaurant / deli but would prefer a more personable service. Rather surprised that we were asked to order via QR code for a $$$ restaurant.
Burrata was surprisingly very good, altho the presentation can def be better. Fresh perfectly grilled octopus but didn’t like something pickled which was served together
Table outside was way too small and to be left with cutlery stand? We had to move them to the floor.
