Don't get me wrong a I do like this place. I have been going there for over 15 years since its inception when previously the GLW and I went to another place not far off.
The whole suburb and the shopping centre has now changed and while the foods are great, the GLW and I are starting to make them at home because of COVID-19.
There are many factors which makes my decision and I certainly do reccommend this place to many others.
The fried rice that we purchase seems to changes a bit and it is a little bit oily. We used to purchase the dumplings and while they are wonderful, we make our own but still give them a try.
Their signature noodles and beef dish is still great however they have changed the beef a little bit where it is a little tougher. That is where the one point was taken off but I woudl still give it a 3.5 out of 5.

This is the only place I know where you can help yourself to unlimited cups of slushies, Chinese tea and red bean soup! It's a no frills joint where you pick up the menu from the counter, take a seat then return to the counter to place your order. <br/><br/>For today we had the fried pork dumplings which took a fair while to get to the table. Unfortunately the dumpling skin was thick and doughy but the filling was delicious. The dumplings were also not consistently fried so some had soggy skins. <br/><br/>The Lanzhou beef noodle was a huge serving and there was a generous amount of soft, succulent beef. The broth was tasty. The chicken with ginger sauce came with a mound of rice and a bowl of soup. This was quite a treat - the chicken meat was tender and I couldn't get enough of the ginger sauce. <br/><br/>With chilli oil on each table, it's a giant high five to Raramen!

Tempted by Dumplings we couldn’t decide between the two of us which fillings so ended up agreeing on the fried salt and pepper chicken. <br/><br/>The first thing I noticed when the dish arrived was the aromatic smell of chilli, garlic and onion that were on top of the chicken.<br/><br/>The fried chicken itself was delicious with a crunchy coating and those salt and pepper flavours are wonderful, it’s not spicy unless you add the chilli topping which is clever because you can opt to dial the spice up or down. A great snack.

We were craving Dan Dan noodles so saw this place had them. When we asked the staff to make it vegetarian they readily agreed. The food came fast and was delicious. We ordered Shanghai fried noodles, Shanghai mini pork buns (xiao long bao), pork and spinach wonton in soup, pan fried spring onion pancake, teriyaki chicken skewer and drinks.<br/><br/>The noodles were pretty good in flavour and I liked that the used wood ear fungus instead of button mushrooms. The wonton were packed with flavour but the soup was bland. The two bits of broccoli seemed like an odd addition.<br/>The pancakes were So good...salty, crispy, soft inside. Must try if you like spring onions.<br/>The grey meat on the skewers were battered and tasted old. I'd wouldn't eat these again.<br/><br/>Tip: get the menu yourself from the counter, order and pay at counter, complimentary drinks station, takeaway containers are 20c each.

Cheap and delicious. I always go there for the LanZhou La Mian, but recently the quality of the meats has declined. Most of the beef have tendons and fatty tissue still attached with very little lean beef. Still, the soup is delicious and the dumplings are great.<br/><br/>I really like the self serve tea and slushie - don't have to wait for them to get refills.

Everyone loves what we ordered. Service was quick. I had the Lanzhou beef ramen was delicious. The texture of the noodle was ‘bouncy’ and had lots of beef that’s soft and tender. Will definitely go back again!

Located inside Boxhill Central, we found ourselves trying out this simple Chinese eatery for the first time for dinner. There were plenty of seats within and not very busy. <br/><br/>The food were okay, nothing fancy. Just a casual place if you were feeling a bit more hungry as the portions were big to perhaps make another meal. <br/><br/>Dan Dan Noodles was the only dish I thought looked a bit bizarre, with pickled cold vegetables and the questionable peanut meat sauce, looked nothing like the real deal. The taste was all over the place. Huge portion, I did try to eat till more than half up just so to not waste the food but it was disappointing.<br/><br/>The service staff were polite and helpful. Came back on the 21st Aug 2017, had their pork chop with egg and pickle vegs on rice. The smallest pork chop, I have ever seen. Stingy with meats!!! And this is not the first time with meats.<br/><br/>Also, don't like their ordering system, where you has to remember your table number and then go to the counter infront to order and tell them your number. Most eateries, nowaday, gave you their number and you just had to place it on your table so that the waitress know which table to go to. They should change their current ordering system. Marking you down because of this.<br/><br/>=========================<br/>Whenever I walk pass this store, there are always customers. So decided to tryout at this store for breakfast cum lunch. Had the fried chicken ramen. Not bad and portion was generous for just under $10. There are free hot tea, soup or slupee.

It's surprising how many people they can cram into this unappealing looking restaurant - it's sometimes not very comfortable being in there (recommend takeaway instead). Food is generally served promptly and they offer complementary tea and slushy (both are quite poor quality). I'd recommend their Five Spice Noodle Soup (their noodles are good), Shanghai Fried Noodles and their fried Dumplings. On this occasion their Shanghai Fried Noodles were great - not too oily, quality noodles and fresh/flavoursome vegetables with it.

Ramen noodles and dumplings are delicious. Pay before food is serve. Free self-service drinks include hot tea, water, and slushi. <br/>Seatings can get very cramp when busy. The place is in need of a professional cleaner, the tables and floor are alway sticky. <br/>The menu is cheap compare to other similar eatery. Remember, you are paying for the food not the service. Some of the staff understands very little English.

It was my first time here and I had gotten the Lanzhou beef ramen.<br/>The food here was very bland and not that very appetising, the noodles didn't have much flavour and the soup was very bland despite the msg. The only thing that was good about the noodles was that the braised beef tasted decent.<br/>My friend also got really sick after her fish balls ramen.<br/>Overall the you pay for what you get. Cheap meals with low quality food.<br/>I won't be coming back here.<br/><br/>

We were greeted by an incredibly moody cashier. She seemed like she was on continuous shifts. Deep fried pork ribs were tad dry and not as tasty as I would anticipate. The rest of the dishes were so so. <br/><br/>It has been a while since I was last here and it will be a while before I return.

We always come here for the dandan noodle, best dandan noodle ever if you don't mind the dirty kitchen. Noodle was pulled from scratch, add the spicy peanuty sauce (heavenly) and the vegie pickles made it shine. Forget about the free red bean soup; they're super watery. Also skip the free slushie; they taste like tile cleaning liquid, no matter what the flavour is. Just order the dandan noodle and hot tea... you'll thank me later!

It's been so long since I last visited this restaurant. When I came for lunch it did not disappoint. <br/><br/>The pork dumplings were a let down however the noodles were great. I love the hand made noodles here and how they aren't all perfectly sized. Spring onion pancake here is also one of the best, lovely and crispy all around!<br/><br/>Self serve tea and slurpees are also a bonus! <br/>Could do with better airconditioning on hot days but great for a casual, quick lunch!

Been here a few times for lunch, and the food is alright. Quick, easy service. But a few days when I went for here for dinner, it was a disgrace! We ordered steamed dumplings and a fried chicken ramen. The broccoli in the ramen was only partially cooked, and the dumplings weren't that WOW. I drank a bit of the ramen soup and realised they added WAY TOO MUCH MSG into that ramen, but I didn't take it too seriously, until I got home and felt rather sick. My body started producing a lot of mucus, causing blocked nose and coughing. My friend also started getting sick the next day. From past experience, I've never experienced such extreme aftermaths after eating here, did they change chefs? I'm not going to return to Raramen Box Hill anytime soon, the one in Glen Waverley is much better and cleaner.

Fried chicken n prawn dumplings are oily.<br/>Dough skin a bit too thick, yet the just-right crispy skin balanced the overall impression.<br/>There are drinks free for diners. One of them is red bean soup, actually it's cold, not warm enough. The taste is alright though.

RaRamen is probably my favourite dumpling place in Box Hill. I have tried the popular ones like DC Dumpling, David & Camy and Luyang but RaRamen trumps them all. Their other dishes aren’t too bad too actually, and RaRamen in Box Hill Central also offer free slushies if you so fancy. Their Shanghai Fried Noodles, like most other restaurants, are on the oilier side of things but flavour-wise it’s pretty tasty.

So the other day.. I got lunch. i used to come here regularly when i lived nearby. Warning, i'm going to be harsh but honest. I ordered xiao long bao/shanghai mini pork soup dumplings + steamed chicken and mushroom set. I ll start with the service and ambience. It was almost non existent. I walked in and was ignored for a little moment before being shuffled to a dirty table. Menu was handed to me and the waiter was standing over me, waiting for me to order right away. Ahhh the pressure! I asked if i could have a few minutes and ordered a drink for the time being. Upon skimming through the menu i settled for some dumplings and chicken. Waiter took my order and i was asked to pay immediately at the counter. 20 minutes passed by before my xiao long bao arrived. To my disgust, not only were they of the frozen variety u can get at asian grocers, they had evidently been defrosted in the microwave before steaming which caused a bust in each which meant = no soup inside + crusty dry dough. Ughh why me 😩. Then my steamed chicken with shiitake arrived with rice and soup. 😭 it got worse. The chicken was roughly hacked at, leaving bone fragments throughout the dish, chipping one of my back teeth 😤. The flavour was lacking any depth, i had to add soy and chilli oil to give it any sort of oomph! The rice was dry and grainy and dear lord. I wish i never tried the "soup" which can only be described as murky, luke warm dirty dish water with fishy undertones 😷🙊. So anyway lets just say absolutely nothing will make me go back there willingly. It was a disgrace.

I love ramen. I also love Raramen. I'm in Melbourne every year and every time I'm there you'll find me at Raramen. In a place all about quantity over quality this place still manages to always pull out delicious food regardless. It's a Taiwanese eatery of sorts, featuring the usual likes of dumplings and all manner of noodle soups. You make yourself seated, recall your table number and order at the front. It's a system that places efficiency over service but prices are cheap enough that you won't care. Hot and Sour Soup 4 Hot and sour 'suan la tang' was sadly served luke warm at best but still managed to be fiery enough thanks to the decent amount of spice and chilli in it. It's thick and comforting and yet manages to slap your tastebuds around to the far corners of the earth thanks to the tried and true combination of hot and sour. Stewed Beef Noodle Soup 9.5 If Raramen is the place I always visit in Melbourne, this is the dish I always eat. Whilst not even remotely the Japanese ramen

Raramen has two restaurants - Glen Waverley and Box Hill. The fit out is modern with upmarket tall chairs and chunky tables. The longer tables are perfect for groups. The walls are plain without artwork - unlike other Asian restaurants. Staff greet you and hand out menus. They are trained to be attentive and will wait just back from your table during the dining experience.

It's the food. Be honest - the fit out and the setting probably looked sensational about ten years ago when it was new. The service is never going to be mistaken for "friendly" - "efficient" is about as good as it gets.<br/><br/>But the food is great and the prices are cheap.<br/><br/>Friend dumplings managed to be crispy and chewy at the same time and the filling was full of good flavours. And at 12 for about $9 you aren't going to complain.<br/><br/>A wonton soup with beef came full of goodness, wontons and big chunks of fatty beef that was flavoursome and hot.<br/><br/>Free tea, free slushies. Seriously, you could complain about this place and probably some have. but there's a lot going for it.

Would never return. If I had an extremely tight budget and I just really wanted to feed myself well, I would probably come here. Food was terrible and the restaurant looks really depressing. When I first heard of 'Raramen' from my partner and he had told me about the ratings on urbanspoon I had my expectations up. But upon passing the place I knew I would not be impressed with the food (and TBH I thought it would be a Jap restaurant). I had the double-cooked pork ramen and my boyfriend had the pickled cabbage and pork rice noodle, and my pork was dry and it had a lot of fat on it. His soup basically tasted like hot water and MSG. The noodle to meat ratio was 85:15 in my bowl. The only thing we ordered that we enjoyed was the spring onion pancake - crispy and slightly chewy on the inside (just how I like it). I would go back and get the pancake but for anything else on the menu, I'd get it somewhere else.

Good food, speedy service. I've lost count the number of times I've been here, it's consistently good. It's a simple system: you order your food (either at your table or at the counter), then you pay for it straightaway. <br/><br/>Food always comes out quickly. Maybe I've just been really lucky, but these complaints of waiting at least half an hour, well that's never happened to me.<br/>Their dumplings have thicker skin, as another reviewer Da Pang Du Zi explained. I like both thicker and thinner-skinned dumplings, so I'm happy. I love their chili sauce in the containers, soooo addictive!<br/><br/>I love the celery stick beancurd salad, the fried eggplant with special sauce, friend green beans, all their little salad things on top of the dumplings. Though I love spring onion pancake I find they're not always consistent here at Raramen; sometimes it's too sweet and other times it's too doughy and not crisp enough. Other friends also love the lemon chicken and the duck with noodles. The hot and sour soup with noodles can definitely do with more tofu and preserved vegie things!<br/>And I've always found the waitstaff speak English just fine. Most are polite and efficient. You get the occasional grumpyhead but that's the same with any workplace.

Be sure to choose the handmade flour noodle ramen NOT the rice noodle ( not hand made ). The vegetarian dumplings were very tasty and generous in size. Beef Brisket is just brittle and soft, bits of fats ...<br/><br/>The occasional Fried Rice and Shanghai Fried Noodles if we have a larger group.<br/><br/>Always reminds me of the good old days, simpler, tasty food.<br/><br/>Try to come in before the lunchtime crowd, say 11 am or after 1.30 pm, especially if you have a larger crowd with you.

Not a flashy restaurant, but the food was incredible for the price.<br/><br/>Dumpling are authentic, tasty and the "special" dumpling sauce is the best I've tried (in Australia).<br/><br/>A variety of noodles were sampled and thoroughly enjoyed.<br/><br/>I ordered some more dumpling to go. Hand made noodles free tea and slushies, I got Shanghai roast dick ramen, just the crispy gplden skin om the duck was enough to make me want to come back. The noodles were very light and the broth very tasty. Pork dumplings were also light and delicious, hmy partner got stewed pork rice ramen, turned out to be brasied pork belly, also pronounced yummy....try it, great value, yummy food....

Family Cheap. First time here today and to be able to feed my family of five for under $50 is a pleasant surprise. First up shown to the seat and given menus. Looking around it wasn't hard to work out. Choose your items from the menu go up to the counter, quote your table number, order up and pay. On the left is free tea and slushies for the kids. Take your drinks and get some bowls from the same area. I am not about to complain for having to do a little bit of work for the price is very reasonable. While at the counter I noticed that they hand make the noodles on the premises. Can't get any fresher than that. Back at the table and within 5 minutes the order arrives. We had the Peking Pork dumplings steamed and fried. Chicken & prawn dumplings, vegetarian dumplings, a serve of Teriyaki Chicken & rice and some Steamed Stuffed Pork buns. Cost around $46.50. Food was good and this place keeps churning over tables. Definitely will be back again

Serves have diminished. This place used to be good 3-4 years ago. But then they changed. The restaurant/cafe was previously fairly decent post the change (food wise - service style hasn't changed) until probably the last 12mths. we visited 3 days ago, not only have the flavours/quality diminished, but the bowls were half full. We left feeling not fully satisfied (and to top it off, prices have increased over 20%. don't mind a fall in ingredients/quality of food, but if you are expecting us to pay more for it - sorry. won't be returning)

Reasonable. Went there for lunch today, ordered curry chicken rice ($8.5), steamed pork mini bun ("xiao loong bao", $6 for 6) and steamed prawn/pork/fish meat mini bun ($6.5 for 6). They offer complimentary raspberry slurpee, tea and water so we got some drinks. After a short while, they brought us terriyaki chicken rice, so we said the waitress must have taken our order wrong. They went back to check and gave us the correct dish without complaints. This granted them a tick on service :) The curry offered a good level of spiciness although it's a bit unexpected to see some pickled cabbage on the side. The dish also would have been better if there were more than 6 pieces of chicken. The steamed pork mini bun came out ok, although the pastry could have been thinner in my opinion. The prawn version had no competitive edge at all, definitely it's the last time to order.

Great value. This place is great value and the quality of the food is consistent. You have to know what to order though - dumplings, spring onion pancake, and Chinese broccoli with oyster sauce are my favs. I have noticed that the serving sizes have decreased in the last year but I guess that happens everywhere. However, still excellent value for money. You just have to get used to the 'table service' but having to pay at the counter before they cook your food!

Raramen - Dumplings. First time here, the place is looking popular when we came. I like the idea of complimentary tea and slurpees. Ordered Shanghai Noodles ($9.50) and Steamed Prawn & Chicken Dumplings ($8), both were delicious and tasty. Pretty good price for two yummy meals to share between two people.

Quick service, great food and better service than the one in Kingsway, Glen Waverly.<br/><br/>I particularly like the Shanghai Dumpling (the bigger ones). However, I agree with the comments from a user below that lately their dumpling skin has become thicker.

Dumplings!. Best dumplings I've ever had! They also sell the dumplings frozen in bags of 24 (for around $12, so cheap!). <br/>My family and I regularly buy these, they come with cooking instructions so they taste almost as good as eating in. When we have them at dinner parties, everyone always agrees they are the best they've had. <br/>The free slurpee is a nice added touch to the delicious food.

What you pay is what you get. This is a cafeteria-style popular lunch spot for a dumplings fix. The process is fairly simple - walk in, try and catch the eye of one of the (extremely busy) wait staff, snag a table, receive menus, place order and take your 'docket' to the counter to pay before you receive your food.<br/><br/>Vegetarian dumplings (bumper value at $9.50 for 15 fried dumplings) were alright - the green dumpling pastry is a bit too thick but the filling has a good mix of vegies and vermicelli noodles. It gets busy during the lunch rush so the service is pretty haphazard and many of the staff can't speak much English.<br/><br/>Complementary tea, slushies and red bean soup are a big drawcard for the uni-student and budget-conscious crowd. The staff are happy to provide takeaway containers and bags for leftovers.

Call me dumpling fan for now. I ate at Raramen today. I knew what i wanted. i had been thinking about it all the way from work while on the train; the fried dumplings. I agree with the other reviews that the dough is much thicker than it used to be before the expansion of the restaurant into the other room. BUT they were still very delicious. Pour a dash of watered down soy and a drop of chilli oil on the dumplings and mixed with the stock from the meat inside, you have a very delicious and ultra cheap meal on your hands. And mine was on my hands. I could not handle those chopstick with my gresy fingers.

Beyond Revolting. I cannot believe how many people go to this place.<br/><br/>The sight and smell of the "authentic" peanut sauce noodle is incredibly disturbing (mentally) and I cant believe I actually had three spoonfuls of it.<br/><br/>The slurpee looks like some mad scientists' chemical waste. <br/><br/>Will never go back again and I think parents should consider children's health when they go to this restaurant.

I was really excited to try this place as i'd heard from multiple people that it was very good. my friends and i ordered some noodles each and a plate of dumplings for the table. the dumplings were nothing special, but no complaints. however the noodles were truly sub-par. they looked and tasted like they had been cooked much earlier in the day and had been re-heated for our orders. soggy, broken up and pasty. disappointing.

A local favourite. We have lived near Box Hill for the past 6 years so when we dine out it's almost always in Box Hill. One of our favourites is thss restaurant.<br/>I have eaten at RaRamen Box Hill (and its earlier version 'Tempura Dumpling House') countless times. Apparently there was a change in ownership when they changed the name and expanded the business.<br/><br/>We used to always order the dumplings but recently we have noticed that the dumpling skins have become thick and chewy. Our favourite dumpling is actually the greenish Vegetarian ones here.<br/><br/>Another good dish here is the Dandan Noodle, a spicy hand-made noodle. Very tasty but be careful if you can't stand spicy hot foods. This will burn most uninitiated tongues. <br/><br/>There is free tea and water to drink. Free slurpee (2 flavours) and a soup. However, the slurpee is normally very watery and the soup cold! What good are free stuff the customers can't enjoy them? I asked the waitresses and they never answer. They just smiled!<br/><br/>The place seems to still be packed for weekday lunches so good luck finding a table.

No good since the expansion. .<br/>Pros:<br/>- Have kept the same menu from it's predecessor "Tempura Dumpling House"<br/>- Expansion into the store next door means you can always get a seat<br/>- Service seems faster than it's predecessor<br/>.<br/>Cons:<br/>- Quality of food not as good as it's predecessor, dumplings were inferior compared to the original<br/>- Change in ownership means all the authentic and experienced cooks have been replaced by young casual staff - ie: loss of quality<br/>- They don't put the tasty curls of bonito flakes on the Agedashi tofu anymore!!!

A change of name/ownership from Tempura House to Raramen also saw the best dumplings in Box Hill soon become the worst. The outer skin is now so thick, with minimal meat inside, that they are like eating gnocci instead of dumplings. Avoid like the plague.

This place used to have the best dumplings in Melbourne, since the expansion the focus on quantity instead of quality is apparent. The offer of bottomless slurpees has not made up for the loss in quality.

Best dumplings in Melbourne. In my opinion the dumplings you get from Raramen, Boxhill Centro (formerly named "Dumpling and Tempura House"), are the best in Melbourne. <br/>As a dumpling fan, I have tried many different restaurant dumplings in Melbourne and Sydney, including buying them frozen and cooking at home, and the ones that Raramen deliver are without doubt one of the best. <br/>I noticed a previously blogger complained at the thickness of the dough, that is one of the specialities of these dumplings, they are a more "Northern" Chinese style, as opposed to the "Shanghai" style dumplings which are much thinner or the Japanese Gyoza. <br/>The Zhu Rou Guo Tie Jiao Zi (hope my spelling is okay?) are just awesome. We travel to this venue for lunchtime dumplings with colleagues on a regular basis as they are so good, and then buy frozen ones to cook at home as well. They do great Vegetarian steamed dumplings too, these seem the be the most popular with the majority of our female colleagues.<br/>I even took these frozen dumplings to our Sydney office, and cooked them in the office, and they rated them above the Sydney dumpling restaurants. <br/>Please note that whilst I may be western and slightly biased (Zhong Guo Lao Po), many of my work colleagues are Chinese too and also think these dumplings are very good.

It's okay!. Come here for the food for instance, dumplings. Please do not complain about the service because you will not get great service.<br/><br/>Raramen is a new place in the Box Hill Centro complex.<br/>Order first, pay, then you will get your food. I only ordered deep-fried dumplings just to see how it tasted. <br/>I didn't want to order a whole lot just in case it was a fail situation.<br/><br/>Dumplings are some-what alright, I think there was too much pastry. It felt like I had to bite down on a lot of pastry before getting to the meat. The taste of it was good but I didn't like the fact that there was too much doughy pastry. <br/>To quote what a Chinese dumpling skin should be like, the filling should be "wrapped into a thinly rolled piece of dough".<br/>This wasn't thin at all.<br/>Just a heads up.<br/><br/>Basically, this place is self-serve. Self-serve tea, soup, slushie and utensils.<br/><br/>Overall, <br/>I would definitely come here again just to try the other dishes.

You will not get good service and the place doesn't have a great vibe, but one thing you are guaranteed to get every single time, without fail, is a bloody awesome meal. RaRapt with RaRamen. For me RaRamen is one of the better eateries in Box Hill, a suburb that is overloaded with cheap and near-nasty places to dine. RaRamen is located within the old section of Box Hill Centro, near the markets.<br/><br/>We typically have the beef noodles soup, and steamed veg dumplings for a total of $18; both are tasty and fresh. The read-bean pancake is also worthwhile. <br/><br/>The noodles and dumplings are freshly hand-made at the front of the shop.

A two hour ticket costs about $2.50 and that's only in zone 2. Dainty cold noodle salad and other things for tastings Here I sampled the Dainty Cold Noodle salad, Ox trotters, some sort of cold meat, pickles, rice puddings, eggs etc. I also bought $1 Lindt blocks and went around the Fruit and Veg section. Everything seems so cheap . $2.50 for three bunches of spinach yay. And then I also saw some weird looking vegetables and real 1kg heavy taro. And $0.99 drinks. I could live here everyday.
