With so much good chicken everywhere in South Melbourne, I’ve never felt the need to trial the flavours over at chain restaurant Oporto. I’ve only had one experience back in Auckland and I found it a bit blah at the time. With the enticement of a loyalty program meaning a discounted first meal, I made my way back in to the (newish) store in South Melbourne.
Quick and fast service. Very nice fixtures and interior. Its the best outlet I’ve seen so far. Chicken was lovely and flavoursome. Parking and ease.
Oporto is delicious, my go to is their Bondi burger. Ordered uber eats from here several times and been pretty happy each time always tastes fresh and the fries hot for a reasonable price. The Portuguese tarts however are very average and wouldn't recommend.
I reckon I have to be Oporto's number one fan. So I am fairly biased. Since trying for the first time in Sydney in 2003/2004 I have been addicted ever since.
Heard about this new South Melbourne store so actually drove there for no other purpose then to try it out.
Store itself is rather compact - with only two x two seater tables inside and a row of bench / bar style seats for five or six people. There is outdoor seating which holds more, good for summer, and nice weather, not so good in those colder months.
Service: Great
Food: Great.
What I go for: Double Bondi with Extremo chilli, minus the lettuce and a side of chilli sauce for the chips.
Second options is the chilli cheese fries.
really good food for cheap, I can get an entire meal for only 10 dollars and it fills me up. The chilli cheese fries and spicy rice are my favourites!
Eaten Oporto a few times over the years and can say without a doubt it's the best fast food joint out there. A triple stack of grilled chicken with peri peri sauce cannot be beaten, and their wraps seal the deal.
This particular one I've only had from UberEats but I've got it a few times just to make sure of the quality ;P (FWIW it's probably the best value meal on UberEats). Now that I see how close it is to home, I worry for Victoria's chicken population
Was excited to see this open close to home and not disappointed! Very friendly staff and quick service. Delicious meals and lovely decor. We'll be back!
