Brunch diaries at CharlieLovett, South Wharf, Melbourne. I won a contest of brunch for two from this restaurant. On a Sunday mid morning, this place was jam packed by the locals, since Aussies love the idea of brunch unlike us.
We had our reservation so that saved us a lot of time. Ordered two brunch meals, one the Wharfman and another, Benny the cowbow with two smoothies, Monkey business and Sunset Frappe
The Wharfman is a huge breakfast platter, sourdough bacon butty (imagine two toasts with bacon in the middle), two poached eggs, chorizo, potato gems (more like french fries), bourbon bbq sauce, and smoked salmon on the side everything was really fantastic in taste and was very filling, except the salmon was bit too salty.
Benny the cowbow was another huge breakfast with two poached eggs, bbq brisket, spiced corn and chiptole hollandaise on toasted english muffins with tater tots, meaning bread, chiptole and poached eggs layer, smoked salmon on the side. This was my favorite dish from the two, loved the taste and everything was cooked to perfection.
Monkey business is cocoa powder, banana, peanut butter and almon milk smoothie, ehich tasted more like peanut butter, and didn't like it that much.
Sunset frappe is raspberry, apple and mango smoothie which tasted really yummy as the whole thing tasted like drinking mango pulp
Overall, the restaurant is really hip and has a lovely ambiance, with friendly and quick staff service. Ample of seating area inside as well as by the river. Sadly, the waiting time for the food is pathetic and really long, which they disclose it while placing the order. Otherwise, it was a great brunch experience for both of us.
The outdoor seating is great for when the weather is good, and not covered like some places around.
We had the falafel salad and the Mexican breakfast. Both great could have used a bit more salt and flavour but still really good. The bread was very nice, the mushrooms were cooked and seasoned beautifully. The menu also needs to be updated on Zomato. But overall a good experience
