Food:
All the sushi we ate was amazing, loved everything on the menu. They also include special off-the-menu items that get changed every so often to provide a different experience everytime you visit.
Service:
The waitress who attended to us was amazing and was very quick at attending to us and all our orders/queries. She gives great recommendations and was very polite and friendly.
Entry:
2 friends and I went here for dinner and while there was little sushi on the belt, they clearly explained the purpose for this and that all the sushi during dinner time was on an order basis. We had no complaints for this as it meant that we got to eat fresh sushi.
Overall:
I will definitely be coming back here many times. The food and service is great, and an added bonus is that when you spend a certain amount (I believe $30), you recieve a coin that you can then use at the Japanese gachapon machines (toy capsule vending machine) which I thought was a great and unique addition that helps it to stand out from the many sushi trains in Melbourne.
Will come back for:
+ Pork Katsu Bento
Came here for a bite of lunch and picked up their pork Katsu bento box. It doesn’t look big, but ingredients seems fresh, and the pork together with the curry sauce was delicious especially mixed with a little bit of rice. Simple, but hits the spot and reasonably generous for the price you pay. I will come back again for more.
Came with friend for lunch using the Zomato Gold 1+1 Food offer. It only applies to the bigger menu items such as rice bowls or udon, so we both chose the Chirashi Don (it also looked very tempting on the menu). The seafood was super fresh and the entire dish was quite beautifully presented, however they could have used a bigger bowl to make it even more photogenic. At the original price of $36 a bowl I would probably not have tried it out, but thanks to the offer, we were able to discover yet another nice place.
I love Zomato Gold. If you havent got it yet, use my code NOMN0544 to get 25% off. You pretty much start saving straightaway with their buy 1, free 1 meals.
We checked out Sushi Boto for lunch today at St Collins Lane. I got lost finding this place coz..well they lied about it being a 'lane' 😒. The place looks like they specialise in sushi train. $3.80 per plate. But today, we went for the ala carte to make full use of the ZG offer.
We ordered the chirashi don and dry aged chirashi don to share. They are $36 each but we only paid $18 each. Nothing makes me happier than scoring a good meal deal.
The chirashi don was pretty good. Really can't fault it. Yummy fresh sashimi and for $18, it was great value. For $36, i think abit too pricey. I'd pay max $29 for it.
The dry aged chirashi don was interesting. The lady did warn us it was a salty dish. Because we shared the two bowls, it wasnt too bad..but i think def would have been too salty for 1 person to finish this as a single main dish. Tbh, I havent stopped drinking water since leaving the place.
The service could have been better. I hate it when i get my food but no utensils (or when i get a dish but they make u wait for rice). Like..how do you expect us to eat ha? We didnt get any soy sauce or wasabi either and had to ask for it.
Would i come back? Yea, prob. Good value w the deal.
Rating: 3.5/5 with the ZG deal. Id be keen to try the sushi train next though.
Located at the top floor of Collins Lane is this amazing sushi train with a twist.
It is a dual concept where you not only have a sushi train but a sushi boat as well. It is a unique concept that is new to Melbourne.
They do have a store at the back as well where you get to buy little cute ornaments and displays.
The Chirashi don is taste nice but dry aged is too salty. The price is a little high. So better with zomato Gold. The sushi is $3.8 each, average taste. Good to try and recommend the Chirashi Don.
Came here on a Thursday fish was very fresh, rice was well flavoured wasn't too sweet like most Japanese places in Melbourne. The staff were excellent; attentive and pleasant.
Shame this place doesn't get much foot traffic. Its a hidden gem, give it a go
I went in for a quick lunch and got a spicy chicken Bento box. It looked really good and was made fresh. The chicken was really yummy. It was soft and cooked perfectly. It was topped up with chilly powder which elevated the flavor of the chicken a lot. The texture of the rice was nice and the sauce that was put on top of the rice was really tasty. I also liked the one gyoza that was in the box. It had a really nice flavor and I wanted to have some more of that. The corn on the cob was juicy and sweet and added a nice variety to the box.
The main concept of this restaurant was having food from the Sushi boats which I did not try. I think I will definitely be back for that.
The staff was very friendly and the food fantastic.
With zomato gold I got an amazing deal, so that just made it so much better.
The dry aged sashimi was a new and interesting experience. It is filled with flavor, but not for those who don't enjoy some fishy taste.
The regular sashimi rice bowl was delicious as well.
One of the outlets located in St Collins Lane and as its name suggests it boasts a sushi boat train experience.
Grab your delicate hand crafted sushi from the conveyor or order from the menu.
A playful Japanese experience with mid range pricing. ($3.80 all plates).⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
📸: Teriyaki Udon
Wide variety of sushi train/boat dishes at $3.80 each, but they are made equally delicately. I particularly liked the hot dishes. Very enjoyable selection and experience. Staff are friendly and welcoming.
Sushi coming around in little boats?... it is as adorable as it sounds.
Sushi Boto has the x-factor with the boats and will no doubt bring in curious eaters, but does it have the staying power to keep afloat?
Recently opened in St Collins Lane, I was invited to try some key dishes there. There a lot of positives about this place. Having a single price for all the sushi on the boats/train makes it a much more pleasant experience than having to figure out if a dish is premium, or cheap. It means you can just choose the dishes you want, and to be honest I probably end up spending more because I’m having more fun!
The quality and innovation of some of the sushi train dishes coming around was great – there wasn’t a weak dish that we chose. As an experienced sushi train eater, I am gravitated towards value, freshness and things I wouldn’t normally try. Fresh, clean, fun I enjoyed all of it.
The décor is a lot of fun, it’s excess but they have fun doing so. If it’s the flowers, the boats, the lucky cats, the table decorations, the sushi steps, the arcade games. I love the colour scheme, it very whimsical.
If sushi boats aren’t your thing (not sure why this would be a scenario), there are al la carte options, as well as takeaway options for the work crowd. This place is being anything and everything you want to be.
For the high end eater, you can try the sushi step which is a 10 course degustation served on this elaborate wooden plank which progressively gets more interesting from scampi to fois gras. It was definitely a memorable experience and felt very gourmet.
Sushi Boto is a much needed attraction to St Collins Lane, and is a standout in sushi train-type experiences in Melbourne CBD. I’ll definitely be back for the Sushi Boats.
A perfect place to catch up with friends, every plates only cost $3.80. Their Sashimi is very fresh! Will def come back! 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻
Chirashi Don is excellent 10/10. Dry aged one not so good disappointing 5/10. Zomato gold gives you both bowls for $36 so $18 each pretty good.
The Unagi and Mackerel dishes are pretty good. Service very good.

We went today for our Sushi Train fix and tried Sushi Boto for the first time.
It was a good value for the price and great quality (and we tried nearly every sushi train in Melbourne). The super welcoming staff prepared our ordered items fast and we were positively surprised. We will for sure be back, especially for the fried cheese avocado :)
