Nice upmarket restaurant although maybe not as good as its prices suggest. The smoked salmon duet mixed with some fresh flavours was good but a tiny serve. The steak and mash was a lot bigger and pretty good but maybe not the superb steak that you'd expect from the price. Really nice place though.
It was 10 years ago when I last fined at Rubyos and it was just as I remembered it. I adore the prints on the wall (and want them for my home), the service is warm and friendly and the food is made with love. Highlight dish tonight was the Chocolate Baklava (pictured). The dark chocolate sauce was divine. I am not waiting 10 years to go back again. #rubyos
My friend and I shared the $65 Celebration menu and it was amazing! The only bad dish was the chicken which was a little dry and bland, but everything else was flavoursome and so satisfying. We were so full by the end of the course. Totally worth it!
Our experience here on a Friday evening was very good. Service all throughout was brilliant, wait staff were friendly and prompt. We had the seafood banquet, the dishes all arrived in quick succession of one another. Each dish was prepared and cooked to perfection. Portions were small, however, we were rather full at the end of our banquet. So satiety was not an issue, neither was bloating.
Highly recommended, the main reason I selected this restaurant was for its large range of gluten free options. The only negative side was the slightly steep prices. We would still definitely return.

Decided to check out Rubyos before heading to a gig at Leadbelly as the restaurant is just steps away from our venue. Did some research and Rubyos delivered on my high expectations. I was looking for a nice restaurant with great vegetarian and seafood food. The only disappointing thing were the extended-happy hour cocktails. They lacked a wow-factor, but maybe that's because I use Eau De Vie as my standard.
The team at Rubyos are fantastic. Very friendly, engaging and attentive. Frankly, they made the eating experience even that much more enjoyable.
So, lets get to the food. Four sharing plates were ordered, two each from their cold and warm grazing options. I've listed them in order of my preference:
baked atlantic salmon
curried cauliflower arancini
charred eggplant involtini
smoked salmon & nori seaweed roulade
The baked atlantic salmon is one of their signature dishes and I can see why.
The food was fresh, flavourful and more substantial then expected. The wine options were good and we settled on a white. However, I was most impressed by the longneck bottle of Young Henrys. Had never seen a bottle like that... crazy and funny stuff.
I'll definitely return!
King Street became gradually quieter as we approached Rubyos at the east end of the dining precinct. A bright pink sign marked our arrival at our dining destination for the evening; I was excited to dine here after many years and check out the revamped menu under a different owner. The menu is divided into hot and cold grazing dishes to be shared between the table. It is Modern Australian cuisine with international influences from multiple culinary regions. The cold grazing features Peking Duck Pancakes ($27) with coriander and julienne vegetables. The pancake wraps are sourced from quality supplier to ensure they don’t crack during storage and consumption.
On the quieter end of Newtown, Rubyos is a nice place for catchups or date nights. The menu is designed to be shared and has influences from different parts of the world - surprisingly it works! My favourite from the night were the calamari which is so tender and the rosewater panacotta which is light and perfect in sweetness.
Lovely food. Can cater to any dietary requirement and friendly service.
A hidden gem in Newtown. Great for meeting up with friends and also lovely natural light.

Rubyos is a beautifully lit restaurant located just before the busy streets of King Street. . Adding a touch of refinement and finesse, you almost forget you're in the pub grub and quick eats hub of Newtown.
Rubyos has been my favourite place the Ompty boys have taken me to. It is relaxed fine dining tapas style food in a superb venue. If you love a good venue in the Newtown area push this one up your list. And check out their menus, there is so much more food I have not listed and that is only the dinner menu.

We had the Mothers Day set menu and it was fabulous! The food was beautiful (presentation, portions, variety), service impeccable and the ambiance fantastic. Very reasonable price point for such a great meal as well.
We even had my 12 yo son with us & had wondered if it would all suit him but he LOVED everything that was on his plate.
Second time I have been for a Mothers Day meal and I always come out with the words "I must come back here again".
Great place, do yourself a favour and visit!
Good range for omnivore, vegetarian, and vegan diners. Reasonably priced for the quality of food. We would have preferred a little more social distance between tables during pandemic times. We would have loved to have tried dessert and coffee but seating windows were tight.
Delicious food, wonderful atmosphere and fantastic service. Our party of four paired of with the vegan banquet and the seafood sampler - we all couldn’t stop raving about how good the food was. It was our very first visit and it was such a lovely evening, will definitely be back again.
Second time we have eaten here. We had the Celebration banquet first time and it was devine! Seafood Sampler banquet last night. Absolutely delicious. Every dish brought out was so good. Reasonably priced. Service was excellent.
Away from the busyness of King Street is this amazing restaurant, their banquets are an absolute must do. They do a dedicated gluten free banquet which is amazing, the quality of the food and service is top notch. Great combinations.
Fabulous quality food, great service and lovely atmosphere too. We had a lovely dinner for 9 ppl. Seasonal Banquet dishes came out at lovely paced intervals. Highly recommend.
Beautiful food and excellent service. Had the vegetarian banquet and dessert for two. It was all so totally delectable.
