The Lawn was my local for a number of years up to 2006. It has always been a warm and ambient inner city pub and it was lovely to revisit a place I have so many fond memories of. Yes, the faces have changed over the years but the food and friendly smile that always seems to paint the inner sanctuary of this great establishment remains and I was very happy to once again drink in the atmosphere. When the owner Rick - in the early 2000's moved on to establish his mark on a new hotel in Collingwood, I wrote a poem for him called - "The PUB with NO Rick" and The LAWN was kind enough to display the poem over the bar in the Lounge for a time until I moved north in 2006. My daughter has also maintained a love of this wonderful Greville Street Institution. Thanks for the memories folks :D
The Pub With No Rick
Well each Friday we gather
And charge up our glass,
To celebrate freedom
The work week has passed,
But somehow it’s different
We can’t take a trick
As we drink at the bar
Of the pub with no Rick.
It’s a place that has pleasures
We’ve all come to know,
A place where the banter
And friendships do grow,
There’s a cultural banquet
From bourgeois to thick
Round the elegant bar
Of the pub with no Rick.
When the rugby was playing
The crowd was ten deep,
The beer flowed like fountains
And none of it cheap,
But oft' times Rick countered
His shout was the trick
To win over the bar
Of the pub with no Rick.
I remember the first time
I came to this pub,
I was welcomed with smiles
A cold beer and good grub,
I’ve heard all the jokes
Some were funny, some sick
As I drank at the bar
Of the pub with no Rick.
Yes we’ve all come to know him
His pub and his beer,
His shirts are a legend
Though some think them queer,
Yet time has marched on
Rick’s passed on the stick
But we’ll still line the bar
Of the pub with no Rick.

We recently had a large group dine here (30 people) and it was fantastic. The staff were lovely and super helpful in both organising the night and catering for a range of dietary requirements. We all had a great night and I would definitely recommend!
We often come here to catch up with friends and watch Rugby on one of the many screens in the hotel. We recently went to the Lawn to watch the Wallabies v England test and booked a table with that in mind. We also had accessibility requirements. They called to confirm our requests and we were not disappointed. Our table was in view of the TV and being able to order drinks and food from the table using a QR code was an added bonus. Great food, great atmosphere and friendly staff who are attentive and quick! Thanks, we’ll be back for sure!

We got seated in the courtyard beer garden it's a great place on Mondays they do the locals night and they have $15 specials! 😍 I don't think you have to be a local even though that's the name of the night 😜
Everything is ordered though the QR code very quick and efficient. The only thing was we didn't get offered sharing plates and no one came to see us after dropping the food to see if everything was alright. Apart from that everything was good 😁
We had a lovely mothers day lunch at College Lawn Hotel. The staff were really welcoming. The "paws on the lawn" included four legged family members in the mothers day celebration and was lots of fun. There was a dog groomer on site who managed to transform our shaggy little rascal into a handsomely quaffed little rascal! Thank you to Jess, Laura and all of the staff at College Lawn.
Spent an afternoon at College Lawn out in the front beer garden. Great place to relax and enjoy a drink and food. Staff were friendly and quick to serve. Was met at the door by Tyson who very professional and polite. Totally recommend a visit
Nice spot off of Chapel St, patrons seem like legends. sick vibe. The staff were very nice and had excellent service. The chips made me moan out loud. Very nice plants and interior for a pub that's a great break from the sweatiness of Revs.
Staff were great. Everyone happy. Would be a sick Sunday sesh place.
Food was big portions nice beer and the calamari was hands down one of the best I have ever had.
Please see a few of my thoughts regarding this great establishment.
~ Beers out of the taps here are succulent, delicious and refreshing, the taps must be perfectly clean to provide liquid nourishment of this quality.
~The food here is equivalent to ambrosia, the food of the gods, the kitchen staff must be midas touched as everything they send out is made of gold.
~ I honestly have no need for friends or family as the staff here are so warm, welcoming and friendly that all my social needs are instantly fulfilled. Walking through the College Lawn doors is like walking into your home filled with all your loved ones. They love unconditionally.
~ The ambience of this public house/beer parlour is unrivalled among this life and the next. Buzzing conversation intertwined with yarns about people's days. Footy chat mixed with mateship and camaraderie.
In conclusion, I would name my firstborn son after this venue and it's proprietors. However that would possibly make him too cool during his lifetime and he would be mobbed as a celebrity forever. So instead I will endeavour to visit the College Lawn every chance I get.
I highly, highly recommend you do as well.
Signed, a VERY happy customer xx
