This is a place opposite the beach. You can’t get much closer.
The service was impeccable from the waiter. He was friendly, helpful and welcoming.
My partner ordered some gummy w sweet potato fries and I ordered blue grenadier w sweet potato fries.
Oh and we also had a granita which was absolutely delicious. Yummo.
My blue grenadier was soo tasty. It was juicy, boneless and flaky. It was some of the best fish in some time. The sweet potato fries were good, but unfortunately they tasted dry. They were ok but not the best.
My partners gummy was good too, but my dish was the winner... yay hahaha it that it was a competition but hahaha.
The location is awesome and the service excellent. Just a small tweak on the sweet potato fries and perfecto.
The prices were very reasonable given the quality of the food and it’s location. This place is a must visit!
My favorite food in the world
Awesome location! Loving the vibe of the restaurant. The calamari rings were bomb. They were tender in the inside and crispy on the outside. Very tender.
I got the gummy and blue grenadier fish. Juicy and well seasoned.
Paperfish may be a hole in the wall down by the beach in St Kilda, but it’s a gem. Forget the truly woeful offerings in nearby Acland Street, or the other overpriced places around- if you want fish & chips or prawn tacos, go here. The fish was fresh, the Japanese potato cakes are awesome and there’s crinkle cut or sweet potato chips. I also had a reasonable glass of Rosè. Next time I will try a granita, which you can also have it with vodka or gin. Totally recommend.

Such a cute spot we happened to stumble across. We were just going to enjoy a drink but I noticed a Fish Taco for $6, and thought I’d grab one to try (for the gram ha!). OMG I’m so happy I did, it was so delicious!! Fresh fish cooked to perfection! The slushie drinks were fab too. I can’t wait to go back!
It’s pretty good value for where it is. Of course they save on costs by having no table service. The fish packs at $15 can just about feed 2 with a small addition. Beer is cheap. Tacos are good but there isn’t very much of it. So overall great value but you just have to work out how to order. $40 for 3 fish tacos, a fish / chips / salad pack and 2 beers is good value. Never mind the salad looked really small!
There are lots of nice places to eat along the beach but most are very expensive.
While this is expensive for fish chips, it’s a great cheaper option and the food was absolutely excellent.
Amazing food and pricing is so good. Cannot recommend enough. Can get busy though we waited about 40 minutes but it’s definitely worth the wait.
Cheap and great food with an amazing view fish wasnt too oily and the fries were tasty! Would defo come back here again! Get the basket for two its the most worth!
Ordered:
- Box of Chips $5
- Granita (Limonatta) $5
- Granita (Watermelon and Mint) $5
A really cheap, great place to stop for a quick snack and refreshment when on a nice day out at the beach. The granitas are a smart way to handle your thirst during the Summer heat and the chips were very cheap and seasoned well. I definitely recommend this place as a pit stop for food when you’re at St Kilda beach, but would love to come back one day and try their fish tacos for lunch. Definitely one of the more cheaper areas to eat in the sea of overpriced cafes it is surrounded by.
Loved my time here! Slightly tucked away and shaded, this place can be easily missed. Great for a casual beach atmosphere and people watching. I had the sweet potato chips and granadier and it was fresh and delicious. I was worried the batter would be too thick or doughy but it was thin and crispy! Love their watermelon and mint slushy too! I was offered an option to add alcohol to it but passed 😜 Well priced and would definitely check it out again! Oh! And it’s dog friendly too! What a bonus!
Sufficiently tasty food: fish tacos are bomb, prawn taco not so much. Sweet potato chips are great if you like them well fried, the potato cake was very good, their fried stuff is excellent in terms of seasoning and they do fry them well. One complaint is the order system, the staff have to scream numbers out, and no ever responds at once so they just leave the food there and by the time the customer gets to the door to pick up the person at the pick up counter is long gone. Plus the cashier service is absolutely terrible, to the staff: its nice talking a bit with your customers ,but holding up the line to converse for 10 minutes isnt, its not like you serve your food at a fast speed anyway, please do something about the ordering system no one has to wait for like 20 minutes in a relatively short line 🙄.
I had the 3 taco deal and loved them. They consist of two crispy flash fried prawns and a nice crunchy slaw. The fish we had was also really good, crispy on the outside and nice and tender on the inside. I also tried the blood red orange and Campari slushie very refreshing for a warm autumn evening. I'll go back next time I'm in the area for sure, might even take a trip especially to go there.
One of the best fish and chips in Melbourne in a prime location by the beach. The food portion is generous and the service is fast. Very nice and welcoming staff. Definitely recommended.
Great find for fresh fish and calamari. You can have it grilled or fried. It’s a cheaper option compared to other seafood restaurants along the water. There’s a nice spot to eat outdoors and the employees are very friendly.
We really enjoyed the fish and chips here. Its not your traditional fish and chips, the chips are crinkle cut and have a unique but nice seasoning on it. The calamari rings could do with more batter and would prefer a normal potato cake over the Japanese potato. But overall, an enjoyable experience and reasonably priced considering the prime location.
Great shaded spot, nicely tucked away but with views to the beach and people passing by.
Order at the window and take a seat or take away.
Once youre done, or if you've already eaten elsewhere, grab a deliciously frozen Pure Pop like we did and continue walking along the beach.
