Nothing beats good quality ramen. Great for those cold days. Gogyo offers a limited ramen menu however each dish seems refined. Can get quite busy on weekends so I suggest booking in advanced. Staff is attentive. Would recommend
I definitely had my ramen fix after visiting Gogyo for lunch! The weather was cold and raining, we were seated quite quickly even though they were busy for a Monday lunch.
We ordered a few dishes - their signature ramen, tonkatsu, sukiyaki spring rolls and karaage chicken. I compared both ramens and actually preferred the tonkatsu broth over their signature. The signature has a more bitter flavour however the tonkatsu has more of a porky and depth of flavour.
The spring rolls were amazing and I really also enjoyed the karaage chicken. The food came out quickly and staff were super friendly with us.
We had no bad issues overall with the restaurant. The only thing is that I preferred the tonkatsu over their signature. I would come back again to try their dinner menu.
Real rating: 8.7/10
We ordered the burnt miso ramen and the tonkotsu ramen. Personally, I liked the tonkotsu ramen more, as the soup base was really flavourful. When food is done well, it can be an art. I would say the burnt miso ramen is an acquired taste, while I can see why some people might like it, it’s definitely not for everybody.
Ramen is flavourful, not too salty like a lot of othe ramen joints. Staff are very friendly. Ambience is very sleek. They have other finger foods worth trying as well.
Really enjoyed the signature burnt ramen although maybe a bit on the salty side. The king prawn guacamole was surprisingly the highlight as it tasted so much better than I expected.
One of the best ramen restaurant, love the burnt miso base. It's very complex but it was really good. It is hard to describe, there was too much going on in terms of flavours. The chasu is really good, melts in your mouth and perfectly cooked. The service is excellent, the waitress are funny. She made a cute mistake and it was pretty entertaining.
Would recommend to dine and come back!
Really good ramen place near Central station - restaurant is know for its burnt miso ramen - flavour was rich with noodles and egg cooked perfectly, bamboo shoots were tasty. Cocktails were made with a good balance between sweet sour and bitter #recommend the yuzu one
- ramen is pretty good: lots of flavour
- love the gyoza so much
- karaage chicken was soooo delicious
- umeshu and yuzushu options in the drinks list was a huge plus
- great atmosphere!
- make a reservation to get good seats!
Customer service: Amazing, staff are always friendly and very welcoming.
Been here twice without a booking, first time was when I was heavily pregnant. The hostess was extremely nice and thoughtful, she saw that I was pregnant so advised there are seats available at the bar however if we can wait about 10 minutes she will be able to clear a table for me as it’s easier for me to get in and out.
Second time I came this time with a pram, those who has been here would know that it is not that spacious however the hostess managed to find seats near the bar so we can fit the pram without anyone bumping into us so we can enjoy our food.
Food:
Grilled scampi are amazing, sweet and tender meat cooked perfectly it just melts in your mouth.
The ramens are by far my favourite ramen in Sydney, the soup is full of flavour, meat so soft and tender.
If you love ramen you must try this place!
I had an amazing night of fun and food at Kyoto Gogyo (in Japan), where I had first tasted the divine flavours that was the Burnt Miso Ramen. This was my absolute favourite ramen in the whole world, and the umami and depth of charred smokey flavour is on another level.
When I found out that Gogyo opened up in Sydney, I booked a flight there just so I can go.
The restaurant was packed, and on a Saturday night there was 2 hour wait at peak dinner time. Worth it! The wagyu beef spring rolls were super tasty. And although there was a smaller menu of ramen broth bases, the burnt broth option at Sydney's Gogyo was still much more superior to many of the ramen places in the country. Perhaps a touch too much ginger for my liking, but still amazing and generously portioned.
PLEASE EXPAND TO MELBOURNE!!
I first came when they were newly opened and again recently. They have improved a lot! The ramen is delicious, of adequate temperature (was too hot first time here and burnt my mouth and couldnt taste anything afterwards) and the broth was rich but well balanced.
Very well done ramen. Even bar seating isnt too bad, so dont get put off if they’re busy.
Recommend booking it as it was quite busy even for an early dinner. The ambiance is great, moody and chic. Nice entrées and ramens. My husband loves spicy food but the spicy ramen was a bit too spicy for his taste.
A branch by Ippudo.
Nice vibes, excellent ramen. Their spicy ramen is not for the faint-hearted, spice-lovers will love it! Their appetisers and sake were excellent.
Ordered:
- Spicy Goma Q (9/10)
- Karaage Chicken (9/10)
- Chilli Shoyu Ramen (10/10)
- Tonkotsu Ramen (9/10)
- Yuzu Sake (10/10)
Great food, friendly staff!!
I visited my uncle’s birthday. Who had enjoyable night with amazing food. Yakko kale salad is soft and crunchy beautiful combination. Tuna tataki is nicely marinated, scallop&prawn gratan is creamy.ikameshi is most try. I feel frying to Japan.
Thanks, Goryo team, I highly recommend
Lovely restaurant with great ambience, our waiter was very patient with our table when we were deciding on what to order. We really appreciate that! Ordered the beef tataki, scallops, potatoes, cold vermicelli and some Ramen. Broth tasted alright, but the noodles were too heavy. The Rock potatoes were nice and crispy, the sauce that came with it was amazing! The scallops were very overpriced ($13 each) and it was just filled seafood mix, mushrooms on a shell. The Wagyu steak was very good, cooked perfectly. Unfortunately I found the cold vermicelli noodles not as appetising because it was chewy. Their salmon sashimi was fresh but presentation could've been better, the seaweed underneath overpowered the salmon. Most of the dishes had a similar theme of seaweed, cherry tomatoes and cucumbers.
Ended the night with the black sesame cheesecake which was fresh, creamy and delicious!
Loved the vibe of the restaurant! Played really nice jazz covers that blended nicely into the background. Food was also amazing. Probably one of the best karaage chicken I’ve ever had! My shoyu ramen was memorable as well. I’ll definitely be back!
Really enjoyed our evening here - of course the ramen is a star but I thought the Wagyu spring rolls were unique and loved the simplicity of the cucumber. You guys should add cocktails to the menu to round it all off. Will be back again
