Guess what??! I think I found my new favourite Japanese bar restaurant! The whole restaurant is just so pretty! Literally taking me back to japan itself! I got to love the eel skewers, egg plant and sashimi.

We can all agree that Japanese food is always a temptation for our food cravings. Especially when in a crowd, deciding WHICH Japanese food you'd want can be stressful or complicated! ⁣

Between yakitori, ramen, sushi, sukiyaki, rice dishes or fried food such as takoyaki or karaage, there's something for everyone (even the picky) 😁. ⁣

Yebisu is an izakaya style restaurant smack in the middle of Dixon Street Chinatown Sydney. What works? Plenty of atmosphere and unbelievable turnover in crowds including students, working professionals, families, locals and tourists. Staff are extremely busy but happy to spend time explaining and recommending their sake to your personal taste in their slightly broken English. It adds authenticity to the place. There is always a birthday or a few, as there are big beers sent to the table with loud Happy Birthday sung in Japanese and topped with sparklers! What doesn’t work? It’s not posh, but I was t looming for that! My friend and I were so immersed in Fri night conversation, food and sake that we realised we were there in same table and seat for over 5 hours! A record for me!

Visit this place for fun, loud atmosphere and crowd, and decent Japanese food and bevvies.

I went to this place twice already. The prices are a little steep but food is good. They have HUGE menu so it was hard to choose. I ordered nearly everything and everything was terrific. I enjoyed the late night opening time because I finish work quite late at night and can still have a good meal. I recommend their chasiu rice or something and kaarage chicken was good too. The photos on the iPad menu is pretty accurate so you can see which suits your fancy.

Authentic Japanese fare in Chinatown. A good option after visiting the Chinese gardens. Their mixed tempura bento box is filling, complete meal with miso soup, salad, and green tea tiramisu for dessert. Gets busy at lunch time.

Such a great place for after work drinks and snacks/dinner, the atmosphere is amazing and I love the wide variety of dishes! The gyozas is a must, it was so juicy that we had to order another serving, I would also definitely get the sushi set again as it was nice and fresh. They have buy 3 kirins and get 1 free, such a good little special! The service is amazing especially from Akiko, initially there was only two of us however a friend came a little later and dragged a chair to the side of our table to sit with us, we went downstairs and came back up to another table parked next to ours just so we had more space, making it way more comfortable for my friend and we didn’t even have to ask!

This is a pretty nice spot for a wide range of Japanese dishes. My favourites were the karage chicken (spicy if you can handle the mild heat), lotus root chips and sukiyaki skewers. The beef tongue and wagyu beef were okay as well. The restaurant gets very busy so make a booking beforehand. The service was a bit slow but the food was great so still had a lovely dinner.

Mmm... I like this one better than their sister restaurant yebisu izakaya. Came here for lunch and got their stewed fish set and curry karage bento set. Both were super yummy. Daikon could’ve been cooked for longer but it was a scrumptious meal. Curry was also nice and thick and full of flavour.

They are generally okay 👌, but the service is quite slow.

Sushi 🍣 is normal, taste are similar with other sushi 🍣 bars. But the rice part is quite dry and tough. So, should be 2.5/5

Grilled skewers are okay, but hmmmm, too be frank, only a few skewers of the combo are okay, the rest is just so so. 3/5

Little bit disappointed by the small size and super sweet hotpot. 2/5

do love is jumbo tofu salad! Really enjoyed! I like the sauce. Healthy number 1! 5/5

Had a lovely night with Guorium🧪 and his family.

I like their yakitori! Very very tasty! Xihuahua 🐶 got scared by the jumbo tofu insalada! Hot pot broth was overly sweet. All in all a good place to eat if you like quiet place, serving speed was a bit slow.

Date/time of visit: 12 May 2022 @ 8:00pm (approx) Dat/time of visit: 17 May 2022 @ 8:20pm (approx) (yes, 2 visits within 5 days) Yebisu Bar & Grill felt like an upmarket izakaya. The decor was modern; the atmosphere was good. It was not dark and dingy (like some izakaya's I've visited in Japan...and Melbourne). The first thing that should be noted is the price of the food. One piece of salmon nigiri would be approximately 3x the price of your average sushi train. However, there is a quality difference. The quality of the salmon nigiri at Yebisu Bar & Grill was excellent, much higher than your average sushi train. It was delicate, and fresh, and had good fattiness (and this isn't the fatty salmon that I'm talking about). My partner prefers the fatty salmon and she was more than happy with the fattiness of the standard salmon (so, we didn't end up ordering the fatty salmon from here). We tried a lot of dishes and were happy with everything. Yes, the price for our first visit did add up - $159 but we had 21 items off the menu with the two most expensive items from that dinner being the Soba Noodle with tempura ($18.80) and Takoyaki beef curry cheese fondue ($14.80). My partner tricked me into getting the takoyaki (because I normally don't this dish elsewhere) and this particular takoyaki had great batter, cooked evenly and was served with a delicious beef curry cheese fondue. I was happy with takoyaki (but it's still not my personal favourite dish for my tastes :-) ). We enjoyed the meal so much that we decided to make a return visit 5 days later, prior to departing Sydney. Other highlights from the menu, for us, were the kranskys; the kushiyaki (my partner preferred the chicken with teriyaki, while my favourite was the chicken with curry salt). Ordering was via iPad device on each table. Service was good; dishes arrived in a timely manner; staff were friendly and some were chatty if asked questions (I asked about the music playing in the background because that was also pleasant and enjoyable and I was hoping to find it available somewhere). Payment by card attracts a surcharge; for our card it was 1.3% which might be a little high in comparison to other venues for that particular card. So, when you visit, just be aware prices are higher than normal. The quality is higher than normal. The price to quality ratio might be a little off; however, based on our two visits, the prices deserve to be higher than your standard izakaya or sushi train. We were happy because it's rare to find such good quality in Australia (next best on the east coast of Australia, that we've found, would be in Launceston, Tasmania) and this was a nice treat during our visit to Sydney.

The food was tied for the best I’ve had in Australia. The barbecued skewers are grilled with tremendous care. (Seriously, just watch the process). The wagyu skewers are amazing.

Lovely spot for dates and small groups, with tablet menus, broad selection of Western / Japanese drinks and foods. Definitely a great drinking and bar food spot to drop as part of the Sydney Nightlife. Decor and ambience well fitting with smooth jazz and care placed in creating a great environment for dining

Not the biggest fan of the $17 alcoholic OJ and the food was quite expensive for the portion. Staff were nice and friendly.
