I have never heard of a wholemeal spelt pizza base before but I was keen to try. I love pizzas but because I have Rheumatoid Arthritis, they tend to flare me up. This place was also appealing because they do organic moroccan spiced lamb and free range pork and fennel sausage, both of which we ordered on a half and half pizza (oh yeah!). I am in love with their pizzas. They're tasty and healthier and I did not get a flare up afterwards. Would definitely come back. The staff is super nice too and I thought the pricing was right.
P.S It is a small, cosy place with very limited seating and the waiting was a bit long as they were busy with takeaway and delivery orders.
Our visit saw us dine in, however Doughboy are REALLY popular with the home delivery crowd. If you’re in the area, we’d suggest getting your pizza delivered. Their menu (which is plastered top to bottom on a wall) is huge, with a few dozen pizza and side options. It made deciding a tough task, but we got there in the end.
Doughboy is a speciality pizza chain with many stores in Sydney including Bondi and the one I visited, Surry Hills. They are famous for their thin and crispy pizzas and the variety of toppings there are to choose from and we could not resist dropping by for dinner one night. To start off with we ordered one of their extra large pizzas and because we could not choose between two flavours, we asked for half and half. One half was the Balbao with double smoked ham, sopressa salami, pepperoni, chorizo and caramelised onion, topped with home made smokey BBQ sauce. This is the equivalent of their meat lovers and was one of my favourites, the slightly sweet and tangy BBQ sauce went well with the delicious and fresh meats.
