I am from Tasmania over on a holiday call in Thursday night to catch up with my cousins that used to live in Dawson St 40 years ago was a beautiful meal and the staff are lovely, I highly recommend if in the area grab a meal
Had a great New Year's Eve at the Union, absolutely brilliant night, food and music were fantastic, recommend highly.
Cute place, We had the fish of the day which was made well and was delicious with a salad , flavourful. The halloumi salad with beetroot was also quite nice, could have used less walnuts and more dressing on it however. The union platter to share was excellent. My only complain would be the service, slow and quite unattentive. We cleaned off our own table twice. we had entree, main and desert and each part took quite a while to come.
The flourless chocolate cake was also amazing, fresh and warm. Would have been excellent with ice cream instead of cream though.
Being on a health kick , very happy to find Minestrone soup with lentils and a poached egg on the specials menu today, the smell of the soup was amazing and the soup delicious, topped off with Apple cider, perfect for a quick work lunch.
The steak is great, the beers are cold, the staff are friendly and the live music is awesome. What more could you want?
One of the best pubs this side of the city!
I love everything about this pub. Old school charm, fantastic beer garden, small and delicious menu, good priced drinks, funky Sundays cool staff.
This place used to be a rough old school pub with weekday stripper nights. It now attracts all sorts and is lovely. The decor is daggy and inviting. Like grandma's house but with a massive front bar, loads of hipster grand kids and ageing aunts and uncles.
Been here a couple of Friday nights now because Bing junior's sweet school friend insisted on 'dinner at the pub' with us. Cute. It's been packed each time.
Had the Thai chicken salad the first time. It had way too many leaves and not enough spice. Last night I had fish and chips and it was generous and tasty, served with fresh salad and crispy chips.
Prices are a little steep but they have a specials board and extensive drinks list. There's seating out the front and a beer garden out the back which I expect would be nice in the warmer months (though another review mentioned smoking is allowed).
I reckon there's something for everyone here.
Went to the Union for the first time on a Tuesday night for dinner - big tick. Food was good, we had pub grub - bangers & mash and eggplant parmigiana (huuge). The place is itself was the standout: good old neighbourhood pub in a quiet back street, relaxed feel, cosy dining room and beer garden. All the tables in the front bar were reserved which we soon discovered was for trivia night. Staff were friendly and unpretentious - always welcome these days in Brunswick. Definitely will be back - our new favourite neighbourhood pub though we still like the Edinburgh Castle and the Terminus.
We pop into The Union when we can for a sneaky afternoon beer in the back garden or a pub mean. The specials are too rave about and we normally order from the board. Love going here for dinner
Not very Gluten Free friendly. Not many GF options and unfortunately the staff were not very willing to help with gluten free options. Choice of quinoa salad, steak or fish (grilled) and chips without the batter.. Got the fish and chips and it wasn't fantastic. Great little pub and brilliant atmosphere but options for me were a bit disappointing.
Loco for my local. Great Chips, Burgers and enchiladas. Free bread to kick off your main. I wouldn't say I've had one bad meal here and that's coming from someone that comes here at least once a week.
Staff really friendly
Great variety of beer on tap.
Keep up the good work.
A little Brunswick gem which gets it so right by attention to the simple little things. Unpretentious pub menu with all the old faves done simply and well. Laid back and friendly atmosphere (is there a no-dickheads policy?), gorgeous beer garden and great tap beer list for lovers of craft beer. Not rocket science to get the basics right, and they do it well.
Great local pub. Solid beer list, and a menu of pub classics plus some surprises- all done well. Getting served a couple of slices of white bread and a tiny butter packet before a meal is always a winner for me. Also, easily the best salt and pepper shakers I've seen in a while...
This was a 5 star burger. Just the perfect pub burger and chips. Went down well with a pot of amber juice. Freekin delicious. I lay awake at night and wonder if I'll ever feel that way about a burger again. 🍔 at least we had that one brief but incredible time together. I'll never forget you union burger. ❤
Always enjoy The Union, amazing live music, excellent food and fantastic staff.
One of the last great homely and pretentious-free pubs serving great food, good beers and with lovely staff. I've been loving this pub since 2015 and it consistently delivers.
Still great pub meals, held up well post covid. Consistent and tasty, with occasional brilliant specials.
Really good local with friendly staff and a good beer, wine and food selection.
A great relaxed vibe in an old school pub atmosphere with friendly, groovy/alternative bar staff. There’s an outdoor area with covered tables. We had lunch of oven roasted trout which was delicious.
