Location, location, location! Fantastic views and outside section. Have only had drinks at the wharf but if I had to vote on the food everyone around me was eating = big thumbs up. The platters look delicious.
We went to The Wharf Hotel for their igloo dinner experience. It was a fun, intimate dinner where you shared snack/food platters and drinks with friends in a cosy (although freezing cold!) plastic igloo. It was beautifully decorated inside the igloo with fairy lights and modern decor, and the food platters that we ordered were surprisingly above expectations; pork belly was tender, chicken ribs were crispy, calamari was fresh. Service was friendly, although once you were inside the igloo it was so hard to get staff’s attention. Overall, very happy with our dinner experience.
The staff at wharf hotel were friendly, and the igloo events was pretty awesome. The food/drink that came with the booking was definitely worth the cost, which was something that had concerned us prior. The food was really tasty and there was such a variety. The calamari did come out quite cold but other than that, it was an enjoyable experience!
Once again we chose this venue due to its value proposition being in the entertainment book. Great place for after work drinks but with volumes bordering on nightclub decibels I certainly wouldn't bring a date there. As usual the menu featured all your standard pub fare, although my spiced calamari entree was exceptional. There was almost a sweet element to the salt on it which was something quite different from your standard lemon pepper calamari, delicious
Update
We chose this venue essentially as it was in the entertainment book and because it’s great in summer with the water view and jugs of pimms aplenty. I decided to indulge with the cheese and garlic pizza to start with which was a superb choice. I ended up quite full from this owing to the fact I’d eaten not long before arriving so went straight to dessert.
They used to do cute little desserts in mason jars which are sadly no longer. The current options are ok but bring back the jars I say. Regardless I was happy enough with the pizza and pimms. As soon as you work out how to get here you’ll always come back to this huge central space on the Yarra (confusing access from a side street as the frontage is water facing).
Original review
Came here tonight for dinner to catch up with some friends who were in Melbourne to attend the Australian Open. Having been here before I chose it as I knew they would have the tennis playing on their large screens outside and being a nice sunny day it would be a great atmosphere having a drink by the water. As there was 13 of us they sat us in the private dining room which was pretty cool but as nice as the live music is it was a bit loud and we struggled to hear each other speaking at times.
There was a basil pesto linguine on the menu and a prawn linguini so I asked if I could have the basil pesto linguini with prawns but I was told no there is a prawn shortage so we can't add prawns. I then asked if I could order the prawn linguini and add the basil pesto and was told yes for an extra $3. I found that to be pretty ridiculous but I enjoyed it regardless although it was a little too oily as pesto tends to be.
We tried the winter igloos this weekend and it was pretty awesome. We loved the atmosphere and the food for what it was worth was pretty fair. I can’t say it was gourmet, however it was definitely generous and filling. We also ordered the cider and rose which was perfect. The only complaint would be that we were a bit cold.
The staff were great were very friendly and helpful. I would recommend trying this experience before it ends.
🔸Environment 4/5
Came for the Igloo wonderland but it was a little disappointed! Not very well decorated inside the igloo and a bit cool there( no heater)
🔸 Food 3/5
$49/per person with set Menu. Only 3 options - meat/ Veg/ gluten -free platter. We ordered the Belly warming platter with Chicken ribs, pork dumplings, veg Spring rolls, fried calamari, pork belly and some dip in veggies. It’s not very full fulfilled! With 1 plate shared between 4 people.
🔸Service 4/5
Maybe because we sit outside therefore there wasn’t always someone to help us but it is understandable. The staff there was nice and friendly!
Went there with the family. Honestly speaking, i Would prefer if they Had Maybe soft music playing in the background so we can get more of the Feel. Staff were nice and polite, often coming down to check up on us. Food was just a little above average. With the platter we got and paying $49 per person. We also got a bottle of cab shiraz,a pot of warm cider.
In Regards to price, I think its not as worth it as I know what are the costings. BUT i believe it is worth trying it out and having the experience of hanging out in an inflated igloo especially with friends or family, best part is that it is pet friendly! So got our dogs there to spend quality time too!
#winterwonderlandfeels especially now when its sooo cold.
Wharf hotel hosts the Docklands version of the igloos - which is a nice (and closer!) alternative to Flinders St.
Ordered:
🍱 The belly warming platter: Flatbread, dips & pickled veggies, fried calamari & lemon wasabi aioli, pork & chive dumplings, chicken ribs with sriracha plum sauce, pork belly in chilli caramel sauce, veggie spring rolls ($49.00pp)
(FYI: vegetarian or gluten free options available!)
Review:
The food was pretty good. There's a lot of options and what stood out to me was the pork belly. Tender and thick, these chunks were a bit intense to eat as finger food (perhaps cut it smaler?) but really delicious.
You can't go wrong with fried calamari or pork dumplings. The latter kind of blew everyone's mind... who ever thought about dumplings as finger food? It was light and was a perfect complement to a relaxing atmosphere.
The veggie spring rolls made me laugh. There seemed to be no filling and each bite would be like biting into plain fried wrapping. Don't really rate this one.
In regards to the atmosphere, the pictures on the Wharf Hotel make it look really nice. Overlooking the river as the sun sets. Silly us - we forgot we were in Melbourne. The sun sets at around 5pm and with work finishing at 5:30pm, the pitch black isn't exactly memorable.
We had a private room because The Wharf Hotel forgot to book us in. It turned out pretty well as there was 15 of us, so it wasn’t too loud and we could hear each other. It was very cosy! The service was great and the food was delicious! Especially the porterhouse steak with salad and chips, for just $22, I don’t think you can get anything better than that! 😁👍🏻
Had lunch here during our lunch break.
Nice food with nice views. Close to South Wharf DFO for some retail therapy after.
Generous serving sizes. Lots of flavour. Friendly staff.
Great location with stunning views of the Yarra and South Bank. Staff was very nice and service was quick. They have daily specials, at reasonable prices. Scored a Parmigiana with wine at $20! Food was prepared fresh to order and delicious with a good portion size. Highly recommend eating and drinking here! I’ll be back.

Came here for the Winter Wonderland experience on a Saturday afternoon. It was fifty something dollars a head and comes with 2 drinks per person and a decent amount of the food. The lowlight was definitely the fish, it was tiny as and would rather substitute for something else if they were going to serve such a tiny dish. The felafels were also pretty dry, wouldn’t eat that again. Everything else was so yummy though, especially the baked Brie. Overall, it was a fun experience, although I wouldn’t do it multiple times.
The igloo experience was amazing. It was a beautiful atmosphere and the food was not just delicious, but there was a ridiculously large amount. The staff were great and very attentive. Shout out to Beyonce who made our night. Would highly recommend. The experience was so worth it.
We loved our igloo experience. The food was fabulous, the service was excellent and we were cozy warm. Great view over the yarra. Thanks to Chris and Nakita for looking after us so well.
Had a friends get together and I absolutely loved everything about here. Amazing service, location also food was great. Prawn pizza was too good. Perfect place for get together.
