A rather small restaurant but has nice atmosphere and serves good food!
Every time I’m here I only get its signature omurice, which is incredibly excellent! The service is great with impressive decoration of the Pigs😍
I have been here a handful of times now and if you have not been here, you are sleeping one of the best Japanese food in Melbourne. Only a small restaurant, but the setting does remind you of dining in Japan.
The dishes I have had here is some of the best I've had anywhere, and there hasn't been something on the menu which has dissapointed.
I most recommend the special which consists of croquettes, crumbed eel, kurobata hamburg with cheese and a couple others, served with rice, side dishes and miso soup (during lunch hours only). Just absolutely stunning despite the $28 price tag.
The hot stone cooked kurubuta belly and eggplant with Japanese BBQ sauce on the Rice and kimchi is also just out of this world. The black pork which they pride themselves in was so soft and fatty, it was flavour bomb. The eggplant was so delicious it also tasted like pork. Together with the crispy rice and kimchi, this is my go to for lunch.
Special Shoutout to the crispy kurobata belly which was simple, delicious and crispy on outside soft in inside. However the meat to veggie ratio was slightly off.
The deep fried crumbed kurobata loin ton katsu was slightly dry, but done well for this lean cut of mean.
Please visit this place if you haven't. Its slightly higher price tag is more than justifiable for its quality!!!
One of my favorite Japanese restaurants in Melbourne!! Food is 👌👌👌.
The restaurant is decorated with lots of different pig ornaments. There aren't a lot of seats so table booking is highly recommended. Great for dates or small groups.
Must order braised pork belly ! Melts straight in your mouth..
doing keto diet, avoided all of the deep fried dishes but still satisfied with all the other pork dishes. One of my fav Japanese go to place since I was in university.

☆彡 Went for Thursday night dinner, it was busy but we only had 2min wait for 2 people :)
Ordered: potato croquette, scotch eggs, soy milk based hot pot, Korobuta belly
☆ The good:
- food quality individually is really good: soy milk hot pot is tastes unique with soft milky flavour that goes really well; scotch eggs are quite filling
- very efficient, clean and nice service
- small interior with seating encircling kitchen so you can watch as food is made, also lots of cute deco
- kurobuta belly is so soft with melt-in-your-mouth texture!! true to its rep
☆not so good:
- pricy for size
☆彡 Overall, really pleasant experience for slightly finer quality jap food :) would return for special occasions
Found this hidden gem! Everything just on perfection. I was so satisfied with the food that we ordered. Service was great as well. Definitely worth the price!
Will I be back? Sure things!
Very nice staff, and very busy place. Katsudon hits the spot, everytime. Good for a quick bite, as they're super efficient, and definitely worth going into the CBD for.
Friendly staff, Japanese vibe, cute shop fitout. Still impressed how small their kitchen is and yet producing quality food. It was a hidden restaurant and all staff was Japanese.
We had some good times at Gipsy and Pigs. The food was slightly overpriced but the quality sort of justify. Love the stuffed chicken wings and omelette rice. The sashimi was super fresh. I hope they had more cocktail options. The Katsu was supposed to be the hero but I found them a lack of flavour and bland. Look forward to seeing more new dishes.
One of my favourite Japanese restaurant in Melbourne, I haven’t had a bad dish here. We started of with mixed sashimi, everything tastes fresh even the wasabi was grated. Then for the mains we ordered katsu curry and eye fillet katsu. I’ve tasted a lot of japanese curry but this is so far the only one that tastes “different” and you can taste that itms made from scratch as you can see small chunks of tomatoes. All the sauces they provide on the table, even the salad dressing, is so delicious
