This small restaurant in the Mid City arcade has such a great menu at a very good price! The sashimi was delicious, the bento box was a great dinner size and the beef dish was so good. There’s one large table for big groups and a smaller tables of 4. The staff were lovely and service was quick. They take efpos and offer take away containers at a very small charge (50c)
Would definitely go back!
J’s score 3.75 stars. J had a solo lunch here on Tue 10th Sept. Lovely smiling staff, nice and quiet acoustics. Clean and non-bustley. Glass of water brought over on arrival and refilled later.
She had the Deluxe Bento Fried Eggplant set ($15.80) - fair value for quality.
Miso eggplant very nice, soft and silky.
Wakame salad nice, generous serve.
Red and white cabbage (Chuka) salad (w mayo and a little bit of pickled radish cubes) – nice.
Vegie tempura and dipping sauce with 2 sweet potato, 2 pumpkin, 1 eggplant - all nice, light crisp batter.
Green salad, rice – both ok.
Miso soup had nice stock with spring onions and tofu cubes - rich and flavoursome.
This is the third time J has been here and has enjoyed it each time – I’ll have to join her next time...
Here we have the Zaru soba with tempura and Tama unadon. Food was delicious and was affordable. The eel fried rice had a lot of flavours and soba noodles was cooked well. Friendly service and will definitely come back!
Food - Came here for dinner using Zomato Gold and we had the sliced beef on rice and also seafood butter fried rice. My partner liked the beef and it was tasty. I liked my fried rice and you could see pieces of salmon in it with roe topping.
Service - The waitress who served us was friendly and explained which dishes were allowed under Zomato Gold. A bit disappointed that the bento boxes were not included but there were many other options to choose from.
Ambience - A cute little eatery situated in Midcity and had Japanese influenced decor. Did feel like you could pass being in Japan while in there.
Overall, it was a good experience.

Great food for how cheap it was! We had the Takoyaki balls, the crab croquettes, prawn maki and california maki roll and more. All were great. Only down fall would be the restaurant didn't look appealing. If it wasn't recommended to us in the first place it's not somewhere I would have thought to go to.
Fantastic attentive service, large menu without being too overwhelming for kitchen staff, and the quality of the food coming out was fantastic. Delicious. Some the of the sushi wasn’t well cut, but the flavour and presentation made up for it. Unfortunately the only photo I have of the food are empty plates, since it was too yummy to stop and take photos before being eaten.
Highly recommended.
Tucked away in the heart of Chinatown is Kaneda Sushi in Mid City Arcade. They’ve got a varied and affordable Japanese menu. Cosy and cramped Kaneda is..
Another bookmark ticked off the list, I went here recently with a friend. A great menu with a lot to choose from.
We decided to get a selection of things to try, I loved the chicken katsu curry and the sushi rolls were nice. The service was good with attentive staff.
In my opinion not a bad place as some reviewers have suggested, you are paying for the quality you get. I would happily come back if I was in the area.
Very delicious, strongly recommended, friendly staff. Nice environment, well presented. I like it and enjoy the food and convenience and quick service .
This place is a bit of an institution and has been around for as long as I can remember. The quality has been consistently good over the years so today I brought another three friends. We placed our orders and settled back in anticipation.
The first to arrive was the Ebi Fried set. This successfully whet our appetite and I'm told it tasted as good as it looked. The Fried Pork Cutlet set was the next to arrive and that friend descended into silence - a sign that it was good. The Rainbow Roll and Takoyaki (octopus balls) lived up to expectations and everyone was happily enjoying their meals.
We were explaining Chirashi as "scattered" sushi to a couple of friends but mine arrived beautifully arranged with salmon sashimi, grilled eel, prawn, tomago egg, seaweed salad and tobiko fish roe covering a bed of vinegared rice. The fresh ingredients perfectly harmonised in flavour and texture, with the overall combination suggesting a hint of sweetness.
Kaneda is in an outdated looking arcade and the set up is simple but functional. Service is friendly and helpful but I wouldn't describe it as speedy. The dishes are quite reasonably priced and once again we left feeling satisfied.
Reasonably priced cosy little eatery, tucked away inside the mid-city arcade and with pleasant timely service. Ordered sushi bento, which was pretty good, but wasabi was not offered and brought only upon request. Whatever they provide as wasabi is definitely not it. There was no kick to it, and I suspect that this could be some kind of horse radish. To me, that was the only major letdown.
Quite fresh sashimi but a little bit pricey. But you get what you paid. Highly recommended.
