Got takeaway from Tsukiji to eat in a nearby park - love that you can select the size of sashimi you want and they will slice it up all for you (that goodness because we forgot our knife) ready to go with a bag of ice to keep it cool.
Service was SUPER friendly, wait was a little long due to coming in right on lunch time.
Food was good, the nigiri was decent but definitely go for the unagi - definitely the best one.
Been here twice, I like the vibe of the place as it's really chill. The staffs were nice though it does take a while for them to cut the fishes.
The seafood that I've had were all pretty fresh, my favorites being the salmon and salmon belly, and the boiled octopus. Wasabi and soy sauce are complimentary. Rice though was disappointing as they were mushy on both visits, not the short grain chewy sushi rice.
My friend thought the cuts weren't as good as the previous owners' but since I never tried I couldn't really compare.
Overall though being the only place I know specialising in sashimi at an affordable price, it's a great place to go when craving for sashimi.

This small cosy Japanese restaurant is run by an old Japanese couple, which provides you with both fresh and quality sashimi at a reasonable price. The range of seafood available is satisfactory, customer service met up to expectations, and you can choose the amount of different sashimi you want.
However, during peak hours, the service may be a bit slow as this restaurant is run by only 2 people, so please be patient!

Awesome small restaurant with fresh sashimi you can choose your own cuts from the fridge. Each is individually priced which is handy. It's true as per other reviews, service is slow but for the price you're paying (cheap!!) it's worth the wait.
Kingfish is my favourite, but I seem to always also get the Hapuka and scallops. Highly recommended
Haven’t visited for at least a year now. Went for the first time on a Saturday recently. The sashimi choices are still as good and fresh. There are more seats now as the grocery section is gone and the food is served faster than before as well. Couldn’t see the original owners so I wonder if changed hands. The hot food menu has a lot more choices too compared to before or maybe it was because it was Saturday.
Overall the Kamameshi meal (one not full bowl of rice with miso soup and seaweed salad) we had was small but really delicious and authentic. The sashimi is just as good as I remembered it so it was a good meal.
Highly recommended place if you are after some good grade own choice sashimi!
Beautiful small store with fresh sashimi that you can pick from a fridge. Very reasonably priced for the quality. The hot food was not great but it does not take away from how amazing the sashimi was. Highly recommend the scallops!
My favourite place for SASHIMI. Absolutely fresh and the price is very reasonable. Make sure you arrive early (I mean just wait outside before they open) to get the sashimi you want.
Absolutely amazing little restaurant just off the bustle of chapel. Food is incredible, staff are lovely and the ambience feels authentic and homely.

Top place for sashimi/sushi. Many options and fresh. We ordered unadon (generous portion) and sashimi. The sashimi shelves have many selections (see photos). However these are a bit pricey (especially compared to seafood stalls at Prahran Market nearby). Free extra wasabi, but $1 for ginger.
I have visited this market/restaurant more than once and I am always amazed and satisfied! It is also such a unique experience!
You choose your favourite fish in the desired weight, cashier will ring you up at the counter. They will slice your sashimi in the back and bring it out to you. It is always so beautiful.
Bento boxes are so good and well priced! Try the Gyudon, it is amazing. Tempura udon is simple and tasty.

If you don’t think this is best sushi in town you are a #*€>~|z. Honestly this place is amazing. You pick the sushi yourself they put it together and it’s awesome. Its non pretentious, good and I feel bad giving it such a glowing review as it may let the word out on my local but google has won so might as well turn into it. Highly highly recommended
I LOVE the concept of this place. Buy your own pack of fish and they will cut and serve it to you. They offer menu items too. Tried their curry rice and tempura udon and it was yummy
Had udon in store and sashimi takeaway. Udon was nice and warm, sashimi was well cut decorated and packed. They would put ice in the bag to keep sashimi fresh. Scollop was so sweet and fresh
3.5 stars. We were looking forward to coming here so much but a bit let down. My partner and I from Japan guess that this shop is probably Korean owned/not Japanese. The flavor is not authentic and a big reason for that is the rice for the sushi was very gluggy/gluey with no flavour. (sushi rice usually has a light vinegar taste that compliments the fish-we had nothing). Rice should absolutely not be underestimated when it comes to sushi and it was very poor quality. You wouldn’t eat a soggy sandwich would you? That’s why this place is not Japanese. The tempura also had a bit of a strange texture and was not proper.
We like that there was a little supermarket style fish shop and the shop was nicely decorated with photos of Japan. The menu looked wonderful and variety of food was fantastic- just a pretty looking menu though. Does not reflect the food itself well. Ordinary Melbourne nisemono food. We won’t be back.
This is one restaurant I am excited to leave a 5 star review for - it's definitely one of my favourite Japanese experiences in Melbourne. Great food, melt in your mouth sashimi, a good range of sake and great service! Whether you dine in or take away and eat at home during the lockdown, I totally recommend it and can't wait to go back again.
