Review The Ternary - Sydney

Our favoruites were the Peperoni pizza and the fish and chips. The salt and pepper squid and the tuna were okay. Drinks were good with a big range. The atmosphere was lovely and the restaurant is quite big. The staff are also accommodating. Overall a good experience!

Nice place and atmosphere but the all day menu is a bit sparse of choice. My order arrived luke warm to cold. I sent my meal back for redoing.. not that impressed at this price point. I was planning on breakfast here tomorrow but might give it a miss.

Nice place to hang out with friends and have drinks or to gather in family setting. Delicious food options. Nice decor with a great view of the Sydney skyline.

We had Calamari & Wagyu Beef. The calamari was the best. Must try for yourself.

Simply amazing, From the layout of the restaurant, open kitchen, to the amazing wait staff and the best food you could possibly have for dinner outside. Hands down it is the best Restaurent in the Accor group in Australia, and one of my favourite restaurant to dine in. Highly recommended.

Must visit The Ternary whenever time I was in Sydney!A restaurant never failed me! First the food is without question good, the grill kitchen offer really good quality steak and salmon both are my favourite and the garlic naan bread and soft shell crab bun from Asian kitchen is really good too! Secondly the environment is absolutely amazing, enjoy the vibes every time when I was dining here! Lastly and the most importantly the staff working in The Ternary, they are professional kindness and cheerful!I especially enjoyed sitting next to grill kitchen seat when I dine alone, the chef are very professional and friendly made my dining experience definitely extraordinary! Thank you all! Looking forward to visiting again soon!

Delicious food with a perfect view over the habour. At Saturday night's, you can see fireworks right outside the window. The service is amazing and I would definitely come back. There are Asian food, fish, chicken and meat - so everything you can wish for. All food is made directly from the kitchen! It's also close to the Star casino, so just jump further to continue a great night! ⭐🌃

This place is situated inside the Novotel hotel. Had a late lunch at the front part of this restaurant & chose a few dishes from their all day menu. Calamari was good & melted in your mouth, I wasn’t a fan of the dipping sauce for it & asked for aioli instead. The arancini also very crunchy with beautiful fillings. The main part of the restaurant was closed which seemed more formal as opposed to the front part which had more of a casual feel to it. Service was very friendly & the food came out quick which was good as we all were starving. Although this place is inside a hotel it has great views of the Sydney skyline & there is also outdoor seating which would be nice to have drinks should the weather permit you.

We had a wonderful dinner, thanks to Gioia we were looked after and enjoyed being witness to a fantastic Chef. The food was perfect and prepared very fast.

We travel Oceania for business and will definitely be back again!

Wonderful views, tasty Asian inspired food and friendly service. It’s a great spot to take interstate or overseas visitors. We chose mainly seafood dishes and the seafood was fresh, delicious and cooked appropriately. #darlingharbour

Dazzled by the Sydney harbour views and buzzing restaurants, we were accompanied by some fine food and drinks. We started with Blood Orange Mimosas’ & Seared juicy scallops. We than moved our way through to the crispy pulled pepper beef savoury pastries and creamy prawn panang curry. At the risk of putting on 204672947 kilos, we continued to be impressed with the perfectly roasted wagyu with truffle butter and vegetables.

The best things come in threes. Like it’s namesake, The Ternary, derived from the latin word, “ternarius” – constitutes three elements; bar, wok and grill with three dishes on this Winter Warmers menu. Located in the Novotel, Darling Harbour, the soft hues of flamingo pink reel you in as you ascend into the space, the warmth of the fireplace provides sanctuary from the winter cold as its flames and embers whisper distinctly through the bustling main dining area.

The walk to our table takes us through the ‘ternarius’ core, heading past the award winning bar, Asian kitchen and tandoor and finally passing the sizzling grill.

We’re reminded of our fondness of this venue with its world class rationale of creation, with the panoramic backdrop of Darling Harbour.

Went with 4 colleagues and was hoping for a more upmarket experience (based on the 4.5 star hotel).

The waiter when cleaning the table after the entrees took the used cutlery from the plates and put them onto the table - with the intention that we had to use it again. I found this outrageous and cannot blame the waiter as this is obviously the training that they are given - suddenly felt like dining in some motel / RSL.

The food was ok and everyone enjoyed the steaks which was well prepared although the accompanying sauces could have been better (tasted mass produced).

Would go back for bar snacks etc but not to entertain others.
Love At First Bite
Located in Darling Harbour, offering dazzling views of the Sydney City skyline, The Ternary Restaurant brings an air of casual sophistication to the Sydney dining scene. They have three distinct offerings: the Grill Kitchen, the Asian Kitchen and the Wine Bar with an extensive menu and drinks list and we could not wait to try them out for dinner one night.

Delicious food, generously portioned, and very short wait time for meal, despite the crowd.

Cocktails were amazing, and the service was flawless.

During our 4 days stay at Novatel, the service we used the most was of Buffet Breakfast at The Ternary every morning.

It was a delight to be at The Ternary. Enjoying a beautiful backdrop of a Cockle Bay and bathing in natural sunlight through those giant glass walls was a perfect start for the day. Spacious arena, high ceilings, right décor, polite staff and excellent food… it’s a place that you can spend hours.

The Ternary has a vast range of menu to offer, from Asian to American to Continental. Everyone will find something of their favourite. Kanji, Rice, Noodles, Pancakes, Live Egg station, Bacon, juices, fresh fruits, yoghurts… the list is long. It is of 5 star quality.

My most favourite was the Almond Croissants (I think that’s what they call it) from the Patisserie section. Everyone should have it. It’s big, soft and stuffed. It makes the morning Coffee more enjoyable.

Definitely look forward to be at The Ternary again.
The Next Rush
It’s hard to expect much when a venue caters to an international visitor and local palette. It would have been easy to play it safe. So it was a nice surprise to see the adventurous nature of some of the dishes offered here and after two visits it's under continual state of evolution, enhancement raising those expectations each time and never failing to deliver.
Opening the cocktail menu, are signatures created by the beverage and mixology staff. The experience truly owned and created by every single person across all levels from the kitchen to the bar to the management offices. It’s a rare and impressive thing to see such exceptional team cohesion. Hence one of the most memorable experiences had in a long time.Highlights and very very seductive combinations of flavors from my recent visit:Scallops with Thai Papaya Salad and banana blossom
Sashimi Kingfish with basil pesto and mustard seed pasta
Tandoori Lamb and beetroot puree
Steak Potato and pumpkin, asian greens, served with 3 sauces: pepper, mushroom and chill red wine jus
Based on the dishes and recommendations from our hostess, all the signature cocktails are phenomenal having tried them, but Jake, Josh and Mitch's seemed to work best with tonight's selection. Also recommend the creations by Murdoch - you'll see his photo plastered on the cover page of the drinks menu. Award winning, Australian Bartender supreme mixologist standards here! This is not a hotel dining and bar venue that is just a gateway to destination Sydney, but the opposite, it's a destination all its own with a compelling menu that's relevant to modern Australia, locals and visitors alike!

Came on a scorcher of a day for a midday cocktail. I had my own concoction made up - basically Pimms, cucumber, strawberry, lime syrup and mint. My friend had the passion flower cocktail which was chambord, vodka, lychee syrup, edible flowers and other stuff. The atmosphere was very chilled and you almost forget it's attached to a hotel.

Came here while in Sydney for a short trip away from Melbourne and we chose this place for dinner. We were not disappointed. The food was delightful and the service was exceptional. In particular, we advised the waitress were are allergic to nuts. The waitress assured us they could make the creme brulee but they could take away the nuts. The dessert comes out and there is a biscuit sticking out of the brulee which looked suspicious to me. There looked to be nuts in the biscuit (it's one of the biscuits where you can clearly see bits of dried fruit, and in this case, also nuts). The waitress came over and was extremely apologetic. She indicated they could make the dessert again but without the biscuit, and furthermore, they would not charge for the dessert. To me, that's exceptional service. To add, the creme brulee tasted amazing! We will certainly be back.
The Dear Luncher
Several meals over the course of a few days here at The Ternary. Both in the restaurant and as part of room service. Could barely fault any of the dishes. The pepperoni pizza was superb. The Bircher muesli, also a winner. A real delight, making up for some of the bad experiences at other Darling Harbour eateries.

This place would be one of the most beautiful restaurants I’ve ever eaten in. The layout is stunning, with the balcony and the fire area.
Staff were friendly and super professional. We received our drinks quickly and were great. I loved my entree but was a bit underwhelmed by my main (mind you, chicken, spinach and potatoes are hard to make exciting). Would be keen to try more of the menu one day.

When staying at a hotel it can feel somewhat unimaginative to eat at the in-house restaurant, especially if you are footsteps away from abundant dining options. However, on the Friday night we visited, The Ternary at the Novotel Darling Harbour was packed and we would soon discover why. The Ternary’s enormous dining room is divided into three distinct areas, each large enough to be a separate restaurant in itself: the Grill Station where the sound and aroma of sizzling steak fills the air; the Wok Station, decorated with traditional red lanterns, is where you’ll find pan-Asian cuisine from naan bread to dim sums; and a cocktail and wine bar area. For single travellers looking to mingle or for those just seeking a front-row view of the action, seating is situated around each station.

Came here on a Saturday night for dinner with the family - the food was good and were lucky to see fireworks go off along Darling Harbour while were eating!!

The food was well portioned and all-in-all good value considering the location and the meals that we had - I had the Salmon Steak which was served with a potato mash and watercress - meaty and substantial.

I would recommend The Ternary if you are after a place to go for a first date that isn't going to put a hole in your wallet.

Came here for my birthday lunch. Great atmosphere. We had the course set menu. For entree there was the salmon with betel leaf and beef with pastry. The main were barramundi and steak. And the dessert was chocolate cake and cheesecake. All the food were great, portion was quite big.

Really good place for dinner, nice ambiance, friendly service, the food are good quality and great for dates. A friend got the accor member for 50% all bills in any accor hotels resto. Great deal. Recommended to get one the membership.

Quite unimpressed with our experience here. Took our business client to the Ternary whilst staying in the Novotel. The share food we got was nothing impressive. The chicken satay was a nice flavour but the chicken was over done. The scallops were quite rubbery and over cooked. The chicken dumplings had no taste.
The pasta and duck ordered by our business executive was alright which was hopeful!

This restaurant is a decent walk from the nearest Town Hall Station and a little further past darling harbour. The view is beautiful, overlooking the skyline of Darling harbour which is beautiful at night. The ambience of the restaurant itself is spacious and crisp. It's quiet enough to allow you to have a decent conversation but still pretty to look at. The wine and cocktail list has a lot of great options and the food is divine. The Asian bar and grill is a very unique concept but the meals are pulled off brilliantly.

For a bar located in novotel - the ternary is quite affordable with a variety of selections for drinks.

Happy hour from five to seven everyday where drinks are only five bucks.

My friends had been here for eight course degustation and raved about the place.

Bartenders are cute. They don't do table service so you order at the bar.

Their drinks list has cocktails and mocktails. The cocktails have funny names. My friend got the woman on the rye cocktail and loved it.

I had the refreshing limeade which had fresh watermelon juice, fresh lime juice and strawberries with my chosen shot of vodka.

We got the garlic prawns with a few morsels of toast to share. Great vibe.

Quick service.

Split bills don't work as their system doesn't allow it. Pay pass also doesn't work.

Okay let's start with the positives - fantastic service and beautiful views of the city skyline. Service was very attentive, professional and made good recommendations on which entrees to pick. I would recommend the blow torched salamon + avacado and pulled peppered beef. They were good, but not amazingly yummy that makes you crave another serving.

Negatives - Very overpriced. Unless you are an accor member and get 50% off the final bill stay away from this place. This venue seems more for people who stay at the hotel (with accor membership) that sydney locals.

Our table had steaks and salmon for the mains, which were okay. Worth $20 not $40-$60. Creme bruele was too sweet and not well executed, so would stay away from that.

Rating 2.5/5 for the first class service and great views. The food is priced atleast twice than what it should actually be worth as it passes for more like pub food than fine dining. If you are going to spend $50-$100pp there are many better options in Sydney.
The Plus Ones
There’s nowhere better to be in Sydney this summer than a garden bar overlooking an amazing view. Enter The Ternary Garden Bar in Darling Harbour. Every weekend, you can visit for beats, views, and the drink of the year: Frosé. Up a flight of stairs, The Ternary is a terrace bar situated between two hotels: Novotel Sydney on Darling Harbour and ibis Sydney Darling Harbour.

For some after work drinks and accompanying dinner, we headed to The Ternary, eager to try their new cocktail pairings and sample some of the beautifully matched ‘tapas’ style dishes! Food and Drinks:. Our first pairing was the Flower Power cocktail with an accompanying dish of Pulled Peppered Beef. The cocktail itself was beautifully presented, with a rose made out of a strawberry, lychee on a stick and flowers adorning the rim. The vodka and chambord combination made the cocktail light and refreshing with a good kick, and the fruity lychee and tangy lemon blended perfectly. The beef came in a crispy, buttery and flaky pastry roll, and was so well seasoned – the strong flavours packing a huge punch alongside the light cocktail.

Ternary : I was really impressed with Ternary for how much the space was able to transform itself from day to night. It is located on the second level of Darling Harbour. A bit secluded than Sydney Harbour. The space in the day time is super bright, high ceiling with ceiling to floor windows. Full of greenery and comfortable furnitures scatter around the main check-in area that is next to Ternary .

There are three parts of Tenary: Cafe/bar , Asian grill and Australian Grill. The three parts works pretty well at night, simultaneously and equally busy. At the daytime it was more on the cafe side, but casual lunches were served from the other parts too.

The space is large but not empty, the light was very inviting and the service was very good.
You feel like you can just stroll around the whole space and discover its library, cafe to go kiosk, computer work center and meeting booth on the main floor, You can also get your order from the Ternary Cafe and enjoy in the business booths, there is no clear boundary between Ternary and the main check in / waiting/ lobby area. Which I found very relaxing and free.

Dinner was a very intimate experience with the chef, on the grill table, you can enjoy your meals while the chef and the kitchen staff are cooking infront of you. you get the personal experience to your meal and the chef.

The Ternary is a restaurant located at the Novotel Darling Harbour with sweeping views of the Sydney city skyline. It consists of three key sections, the Grill Kitchen, Asian Kitchen and Wine Bar and is the perfect venue for a quiet dinner or casual dining. We visited just recently to check out some of the cocktails and a sample of some of the food from the dining menu.

The Ternary is a beautifully designed and furnished bar and restaurant inside the Novotel Sydney on Darling Harbour. With cleverly divided spaces to suit the occasion or mood, The Ternary can certainly cater for everyone. We were at The Ternary to experience their cocktail degustation menu - what was unique about this was that the chef, Anthony Flowers, was given the cocktail first, and then created a tapas dish to match! Usually its the other way around so we were excited to see how this worked.
A Girl With Curves
So we have been staying at the Novotel and had a buffet breakfast at the Ternary. The food was tasteless, bland and actually almost inedible. The coffee is terrible!
We actually didn't go for our breakfast for the rest of our stay and chose to have a coffee across the way at Gloria jeans instead.
Don't bother.
Sweetandyummie
Wonderful restaurant bar with a breathtaking view of the city skyline. The customer service is attentive and the space is super fresh and relaxing. Definitely a place where you could hang out and chill for hours. I experienced the cocktail degustation with matching tapas and everything was superb. The cocktails were amazing and the food was delivered to the table by the chef who made it and it really felt special. I can't wait to visit this place again.

Stayed at the Novotel darling harbour and therefore had breakfast here for several days. It is definitely worth paying the extra for breakfast as it would fuel you for the whole day.
A great spread with a mixture of cooked items, eggs done to order, along the the usual sausages, bacon and also other continental flare as well. They also do a separate section for Asian style breakfast with congee and fried rice. All well prepared in buffet style

The Ternary has parking underneath and it's also just across Pyrmont Bridge so access is extremely easy. Using the escalators to reach it - what strikes you is so impressive. It has a casual yet sophisticated atmosphere and the decor is light, modern and with awesome views of Sydney. Such a prime position!

Hotel restaurants are often a hit-or-miss affair so it was refreshing to discover the Ternary restaurant at Novotel Darling Harbour. During a two night stay we explored the full buffet breakfast as well as the trendy bar. The selection at both was excellent and just between you and me, the espresso martinis were the best I've had. Recommended!

Went here for breakfast whilst staying in house at the Novotel Darling Harbour. Very nice fit out - recently renovated with high ceilings and open spaces which gives the dining room a great feel. Good selection for breakfast with all the standard trimmings. The centre island kitchen area provides great theatre for omelette preparation. Worth dining here if you are staying in the hotel.
Eat Drink Play
Like a New York Sky-line loft, the new and improved Novotel captures the glamour of Sydney and one of Australia’s most popular tourist scenes. While the exterior is nothing to gush over, the main attraction lies in doors and is the new and innovative signature restaurant, The Ternary in Darling Harbour.

Fantastic Service and Delicious Food!. The staff at the ternary were absolutely amazing, nothing seemed to be too much trouble for them. Impeccable service! The food was incredible, being able to sit up at the grill and speak to the chefs was quite an experience. If the view wasn't enough especially during the Vivid Light Festival, the food and creative cocktails are definitely worth the visit.
Confessions Of A Glutton
I attended The Ternary at The Novotel, Darling Harbour a couple of weeks ago not for breakfast, but for dinner. The name The Ternary originates from the Latin word of “ternarius”, meaning “consisting of three things”, and from “terni” – “three at once”. The dining hall therefore consists of a wine bar, grill kitchen and Asian kitchen; offering a variety of flavours and cooking techniques within a shared space, but with the common objective of celebrating fresh, seasonal produce. The dining area is brightly and warmly lit, with floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the twinkling evening calm of Darling Harbour on a weekday evening. The music selection is rather eclectic, from Kylie to Taylor Swift; played just loud enough for you to notice and quirk a smile but not obtrusive to your conversation. The waitstaff are all young, polite, friendly yet deferential.
Excuse Me Waiter
I’ve walked through Darling Harbour many times and have always noticed the big Novotel Hotel towering behind Harbourside Shopping Centre, but have never really thought of it as a dining destination. So when we were asked to check out their new restaurant, I was a bit sceptical about whether it would just be another hotel restaurant, or whether it would be able to stand on its own two feet.

The service was so bad, we asked 3 or 4 times for small extras like tomato sauce or pink lemonade. The food was ok but unremarkable
