Review Fish At The Rocks - Sydney

Kate Berry
The barramundi was amazing, the scallops for entree delicious and our seafood salad cooked to perfection. Caesar was our host and was so lovely and helpful. Will definitely be back and recommend a visit. High class, delicious meals

This was am amazing lunch. Fish all the way. I highly recommend the signature dish of Barramundi, a fish I have never tried but Willaston definitely try again. Visit this place when you come to Sydney. We loved it

My husband and I dined at Fish at the Rocks on a Sunday night. We had the scallops with crispy tofu and the seafood chowder to start - both were delicious. We shared a seafood platter for the main - probably the best we’ve had! The seafood was fresh and cooked to perfection. The pavlova was a nice end to the evening. The service was attentive and friendly. We will definitely be back!

Best fish and chips I’ve had so far! Asked for a nice wine to go with my meal, they did an outstanding job on recommending me.

Had a nice dinner here with friends. The seafood was so fresh and tasty! Service was very good. We came in at 7 and left at 10. The restaurant has a nice ambience. A great place to catch up and enjoy good seafood.

Dined tonight with my Bride and son. Food, service and ambiance all first class. I had the Spaghetti Marinara dish; the seafood was plentiful and some of the freshest I have ever had in a marinara. The Bride had a grilled seafood salad and it too was magnificent. The young fella had the whiting fillets and was rapt. These mains followed a shared entree of oysters kilpatrick and scallops which were equally sublime. Couldn’t fit the dessert we wanted, says it all. Thank you and highly recommend.

Excellent chowder and butterflied king prawns, outstanding fish pie. We finished feeling full and very pleased with our experience. Will certainly go again for high class dinner.

Seafood and wine extremely delicious, fantastic service as well.

This is a lovely restaurant, a little bit outside the center of the busy Rocks section of Sydney. The wine and the meals (salmon and spaghettini) were excellent, as were the bread and the dessert. Very nice service, and a good value, in a pleasant surrounding.

Pretty much what you’d expect of a seafood restaurant in a tourist zone. The food is good, but not outstanding. The service is perfunctory. The prices are a little on the high side

Nice ambience but the food was disappointing. Scallops and prawns had a rubbery texture and tasted frozen and the pasta was very bland. Overpriced considering the seafood was not fresh.

Lovely ambience! It has a homely feel, good for families and couples. It feels like you're eating in a house, and the service was so nice. I ordered the scallops entree, which were delicious! Scallops were cooked perfectly and I loved the texture. For main I had the barramundi, which I was told was the house special. It was delicious, quite filling! The curry sauce was very tasty drizzled over the fish and rice. The flounder was also fantastic, very light. Both my parents thought the flounder was the best main. Dessert we had the chocolate pudding and creme brûlée- the brûlée was one of the best I've had, it had strawberries at the bottom. The pudding was lovely and unexpectedly light. A great night!

Fish at the Rocks is a Sydney institution which serves fresh seafood in a cozy and welcoming environment near Millers Point. I tasted the scallops and blue-cod fillet during my visit two days ago. The huge blue-cod fillet was tender, springy and juicy and the thick purée and tomato base did not overwhelm its freshness. This showcases the chef's skills and cooking techniques, which is visibly missing in a number of high-end and fine-dining restaurants. The scallops, however, was pretty nondescript and unimpressive.

I would wish to rate a solid 2.0 or 2.5 (which means it's worth a return) but an incident involving another (potential) customer changes my mind. Basically, there was another customer who wished to try their fish and chips and was contemplating whether to dine in or take away. He asked the service team if they allowed take aways (the service team says yes) and if there were places nearby to tried the food. This server looked at the (potential) customer in disdain, lost his patience and pointed sarcastically at the parks nearby. This sarcasm is entirely uncalled for and leaves a lasting impression.

Pricey for not the most spectacular meal. Ordered entree mixed seafood platter $22 per person for literally 4 peices for food. The seafood ravioli on this platter was delish..wish I could order a whole bowl of that. Main meal: Japanese crumbed whiting with chips. Very average..nothing special at all. Dessert was memorable: coconut sago with mango. Top notch! Service was fine, resturaunt nice. Probably wouldn't go again.

Fish was cooked to perfection - breadcrumbed & fantastic. Worth a visit if you like fresh well-cooked seafood at a reasonable price. Calamari also perfect

We just popped in, and it was a mistake on Sunday night, there was no table inside but it was fine as we originally wanted to sit out. The waitresses were very nice, we ordered the entree platter for two and absolutely everything on it was perfect. Our main course was the crustaceans platter which smelled, looked amazing and cooked to perfection.

The food was fantastic. In my opinion, it really needs effort to cook fish into tasty. That's what Fish @the rock made it. The mussel, the calamari, prawns, salmon, barramundi are all perfect👍👍

Amazing, Devine unbelievable. The best seafood platter I have ever had. We started with the scallop ravioli, had the seafood platter then the Eton mess for dessert best meal i have ever had in Sydney. I can't wait to come back.

i enjoy trying different kinds of fish not only for the flavour and texture but also the kind of foods that are paired with the fish. one thing that struck me most about the menu at fish at the rocks was the boldness of the flavours paired with white fish. our main course choices revealed why it was possible to have this combination, as despite being ‘white fleshed’ the barramundi, hapuka and kingfish had a complex meaty flavour with a compact texture almost akin to a steak. the fish broke away in chunky flakes.

Located at the far end of Kent St, this out of the way spot is a gem. Not too flashy, but with some great food and decor to please. Seeing as I’m trying to be good, and not too much of a piggy, I passed on the wine and dessert,

Friendly and quality. We were greeted by friendly staff after puffing up the hill from the main drag of the rocks. We settled into a fresh crisp SA Riesling and had our dishes served together on a platter. The king fish with basil pesto, ricotta, hommos and greek salad, while intriguing, was slightly underwhelming because we had it with the beer battered whiting, which was superb. Hot, and melted in your mouth with the classic sweetness of whiting. The house made chips actually taste like potato. Just under $100 for the two of us for wine and mains. Photographs of yhachts on the walls compliment the simply elegant feel of the place. Didn't get to see upstairs.

Delicious food, great specials and prompt friendly service. Highly recommend this place!

Very good food, good service and intimate environment.. The Snapper fillet grilled, with cauliflower braised in coconut was delicious. My Chinese guests both had the whole grilled Snapper. By looking at their plates they loved it. Other guests had the Whiting fillets in beer batter. Both guys raved about how sweet the Whiting was. Definitely gets the thumbs up.

Nice place, good deal.. Four of us strolled along Kent Street shortly after 6pm last Friday and sat down for an Early Bird meal (must be out by 7:45). The restaurant filled up while we were there so just as well we had booked. Based on our experience it's hard to find fault with this establishment. The atmosphere was cosy and the staff were friendly without being over attentive. In addition to the fixed Early Bird menu we were offered anything on the daily Specials menu and in the end we were spoiled for choice. We all gave a big thumbs up to our respective meals which included steamed mussels, calamari, salmon (beautifully cooked), sea food spaghettini, and whiting in Japanese breadcrumbs, washed down with a decent house white which is included as part of the deal. Good value. I'm sure we will be back.

Great night!. We celebrated my son's 18th Birthday with family in the private dining room and it was exceptional. I cannot fault this restaurant on any aspect. From the service of the wait staff to the food from the kitchen, it was all amazing. I would recommend this restaurant without hesitation. Best seafood I've eaten in Sydney by a long shot. Do yourself a favour and check it out, can't wait to go back. Thank you Fish at the Rocks.

Great place for a party. Had 34 guests to a birthday party in the upstairs room and it was an excellent choice. Everyone loved the food, the atmosphere of the room with the large fireplace was delightful, all the staff were very helpful. It was no drama to organise and all at a price that was as good as any in the City. Most importantly everyone loved it.

Not quite the same atmosphere as previous times. This was and is a great restaurant - I have been here 4 times now. It was just that on our most recent visit, we made our booking several days before, but when we arrived we were shuffled upstairs to a table that had not been made up (2 others were), placed in the corner, and somewhat forgotten about. It just didn't have the same atmosphere and 'special' feeling as it had previously.

Weekday lunch. What a little gem, just a short distance away from the Rocks tourist haunts but miles above in quality. We loved the seafood linquini and the baked snapper and the fresh hot bread rolls.
Service and ambience and value all well above those establishments further down the hillside. All 4.5 out of 5.Thankyou

Just yum. I haven't stopped thinking about my baked barramundi, my sister had the moreton bay bugs, also divine. The staff were lovely, we'll be back next time we're in sydney.

Great food, great service. My boyfriend took me here last night for our two year anniversary, and it was wonderful! We ordered entrée (two person platter - best fresh oysters I've had), the cod curry and salmon w/ lentils, and the flour less chocolate cake and creme brûlée for dessert - it was all so delicious! We were so full. The food and service is defiantly worth the price.

The baked Barramundi is amazing! Highly recommend. Best meal I've had since I've been in Australia.

Love the Fish. When ever we feel like a good fish meal this is where we go! Always good, pleasant and quick service, and enjoyable experience.

Beautiful fish. We had a lovely meal.. The salmon stack, salmon main, whiting were all excellent. Service was a bit slow to start & I would've had another beer if they had come back to the table.
Deserts were also excellent, but mine was forgotten & as the kids devourded theirs so quickly I let it go..the waitress did offer it for free, but it was time to skedaddle! Certainly a very good restaurant..

Little Gem. It's tucked away so hard to find. Once I located the place I was pleasantly surprised. Great seafood dishes, very fresh. Prices are what you would expect at the rocks. The staff are friendly and efficient. Highly recommend if you like seafood.

Nice but disappointed. I brought my better half here for his birthday after reading the positive reviews on urbanspoon but sadly, I was disappointed.

We went with the Seafood Platter. The entree only had 2 pieces of each dish, it looked rather pathetic to be honest. The main wasn't any better either. For $140, it felt like a rip off. Good service is the only plus point.

Won't be going back.

Had a delightful dinner here last week. Seafood was extremely fresh & cooked perfectly. Soft shell crab & scallop entrees were particularly good. Good relaxed atmosphere. Would definitely recommend.

Great food, service and Pinot. Can get a little noisy but makes for a great business lunch. Can recommend the oysters. 3.57 out of 5.71

Family Favorite. We love this place and celebrate all our special family occasions there, birthdays etc. The food is marvelous, the service - friendly and caring. Street parking is easy, even though the restaurant is on Kent street. This place truly brings a beautiful dining experience. 5 stars

Must Visit. Fish At The Rocks
Friday 21st January 2011 - Group of 9

The staff's was very friendly, welcoming and presented themselves well. The food was great, fresh and delicious, especially the dessert. Through out the night the staff constantly checked on us to make sure everything was going well.

No hesitation to recommend to those who haven't visited.

Fish Cafe Extraordinaire. Tucked away at the end of Kent St., we've been coming here for 20 odd years since it was just a take-away little cafe. It's always been good, wholesome seafood & having gone a bit more up-market a few years back with refurbished kitchen & premises hasn't seemed to hurt it at all. I recently went there with a group 20 colleagues (no-one else had been there before), & the verdict was unanimous that all the dishes were excellent - fresh & fabulous. I think they allow BYO some nights too.
